Beginning this week, the CTA is completely rehabilitating an elevator leading from the platform to the mezzanine at its O'Hare (Blue Line) station. During the rehab, which is expected to last for about six weeks, the agency will provide van service to shuttle customers with disabilities between O'Hare Airport and its Rosemont rail station, which is a stop away and the nearest accessible facility.
Customers with disabilities can make arrangements to have a van pick them up at the O'Hare or Rosemont stations in advance by dialing 1-888-YOUR-CTA and pressing 4. Or, they can ask customer assistants and security guards at both stations to make arrangements on their behalf.
Blue Line rail service to O'Hare is not affected, and the escalators at the O'Hare Blue Line station remain operational.
The elevator rehab is part of a larger effort by the CTA to upgrade elevators located at train stations throughout its system. As part of this effort, the elevator at O'Hare, which has been in service since 1984, will receive all new wiring, cables, motors, flooring and switches as well as fire sprinklers and smoke detectors.
To keep customers informed throughout the rehabilitation process, the CTA has posted customer alerts at Blue Line stations, updated elevator status boards, and is making announcements at its Rosemont station to inform customers with disabilities how to complete their trips to O'Hare Airport.
