Northbound Brown Line Trains to Share Northbound Red Line Tracks at Belmont on Sunday Only

CTA has cancelled the temporary weekend closure of the Kedzie and Rockwell Brown Line stations originally scheduled for September 23 and 24. Both the Kedzie and Rockwell stations will remain open for service. As a result, the bus shuttle scheduled to operate from Kimball to Western over the weekend is also cancelled.

The construction work planned for the weekend involved excavation, which is particularly sensitive to weather conditions. As a result of this weekend's expected rain, it is likely that construction crews would not be able to complete the scheduled work in time to restore service for Monday morning rush. Rather than risk it, the CTA and the construction contractor agreed to reschedule the work.

The work that was scheduled at Clark Junction on Saturday and Sunday is now limited to Sunday only, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, September 24 northbound Brown Line trains will share tracks with northbound Red Line trains at Belmont station. Northbound Brown Line customers will board on the west side of the platform where northbound Red Line customers board. Southbound Brown and Red Line service will not be affected. Normal Brown Line service will resume at 7 p.m. Sunday at Belmont station.

On September 15, both the Kimball and Francisco stations temporarily closed for reconstruction. The Kimball station will remain closed for four months and the Francisco station will remain closed for six months. Western station will remain open throughout construction.
