CTA Cancels Single Track on Purple Line for Viaduct Replacement Work Planned Over Weekend

September 22, 2006
9/22/06

The Chicago Transit Authority has cancelled a single track between the Dempster and Foster Purple Line stations originally scheduled for Saturday, September 23 and Sunday, September 24. As a result, customers will continue boarding at their usual station platforms at Dempster and Davis.

As a result of this weekend's expected rain, the CTA and the construction contractor agreed to reschedule the work.

CTA is working to replace the century-old Church Street viaduct one block north of the Purple Line Davis station. The project involves replacing the concrete viaduct with a new steel structure, as well as new abutments, retaining walls, foundations, and new waterproofing and drainage systems. The project also calls for rail tie replacement, new landscaping and lighting enhancements under the bridge.
