“For everyone looking to start a career in the transit industry, right now is the perfect time to explore and apply for opportunities at the CTA,” said Alex Moreno, Vice President of Human Resources. “For those interested in the bus operator full-time or part-time positions, you do not need a CDL to apply.  We offer a great hourly wage, benefits, pension, and more; plus you get an opportunity to make a real difference as we move our City forward during these challenging times.”

Like all businesses, especially those in the public transit industry, the CTA has faced challenges in recruiting for some positions, including bus operators.  This job fair is part of the extensive recruitment campaign to attract future employees with excellent wages and benefits. New employees will help address recent staffing shortages and help improve service.

The starting hourly wage for new, full-time bus operators is $24.63 and after working 46 months can earn top pay of $37.90! Benefits for CTA bus operators include medical and prescription drug plans for employees, their spouses, dependent children (up to age 26), and civil union partners; free transit on CTA and Pace buses, and pension/retirement plan options.

A CDL (commercial driver’s license) is not needed to apply for a CTA Bus Operator position. All candidates must be 21 years of age; have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record; be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays; and be able to pass a drug and alcohol test, per Federal Transportation Administration (FTA) regulations. Successful candidates will also be able to demonstrate excellent customer service skills.  Additionally, the CTA requires all employees to be COVID-19 vaccinated.

The CTA is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer that welcomes open-minded, smart, innovative and committed candidates. The CTA offers opportunities and support for veterans, and welcomes all employees regardless of one’s gender, religion, sexual orientation, or skin color.
