Redbox Kiosks Added to CTA Stations

Customers can now grab a new-release movie or video game from Redbox® kiosks located at select Chicago Transit Authority rail stations, part of CTA’s efforts to offer more amenities to riders.

The first two of eleven Redbox kiosks are already installed at the Wellington Station on the Brown Line and UIC-Halsted station on the Blue Line.

In the coming weeks, Redbox kiosks will also be added to the Polk station on the Pink Line and the Jackson station on the Blue Line. The 47th Street station and 95th/Dan Ryan station will have kiosks on the south end of the Red Line and the Fullerton, Belmont and Loyola stations on the north end of the Red Line which also serve the Brown and Purple Lines. Kiosks will also be placed at Damen on the Brown Line and the 35th-Bronzeville-IIT station on the Green Line.

The installation of fully-automated Redbox kiosks follows multiple ideas submitted by the public when Mayor Rahm Emanuel solicited input on the 2012 Budget. “Many Chicagoans asked for Redbox kiosks.” said CTA President, Forrest Claypool. “It has been a goal of my administration to have an open conversation with our riders to help improve service throughout the system.”

“This is an opportunity for CTA to gain non fare-box revenue as well as offer an amenity we know our customers want,” Claypool said. Redbox is the latest addition to the list of improvements to the ‘L’ announced this month. Seventeen hundred security cameras were installed ahead of schedule at all CTA rail stations, and new retailers have recently opened their doors at rail stations.

“All of these efforts are designed to improve the customer experience,” Claypool said.
