CTA Continues its “Penny” Rides Tradition for New Year’s Eve Revelers 12/22/2011

The Chicago Transit Authority is encouraging people headed out to holiday celebrations on New Year’s Eve to take advantage of the convenience of CTA bus and rail service. The agency will once again will provide rides on all CTA buses and trains for one penny, beginning at 10 p.m. on Saturday, December 31 until 4 a.m. Sunday, January 1. Take the Bah-Humbug Out of Holiday Travel and Take the CTA to the Airports 12/20/2011

CTA service to both major Chicago airports provides holiday travelers with reliable and economical transportation. To accommodate the increase in customers traveling to the airports, CTA will operate longer trains on the Brown and Orange lines beginning in the early afternoon hours on Friday, December 23 and then again on Friday, December 30. CTA Removing 5000-Series Cars for Testing 12/16/2011

The Chicago Transit Authority has taken out of service the 5000-series rail cars after CTA inspectors identified a small number of manufacturing-quality issues on parts used to build the cars. The 40 new rail cars, which operate along the Pink Line, were taken out of service Thursday night as a precaution, as CTA and officials from Bombardier Transit Corporation, the rail car manufacturer, further study the issue. CTA Board Approves New Electric Vehicle Charging Stations 12/14/2011

The Chicago Transit Board today approved the installation of electric vehicle charging equipment at the Kimball/Lawrence Park & Ride lot adjacent to the Brown Line Kimball stop, the first such charging facilities at a Chicago Transit Authority station.
