CTA is a home run for fans heading to the Sox home games throughout the season
We’re ready to take you out to the old ball game, so you can root, root, root for our White Sox! The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is the most convenient, reliable and affordable way to get you to the home opener on Friday, April 5, 2019, at 1:10 p.m., to see the Sox try to sink the Seattle Mariners! Our buses and trains help you avoid the hassles of traffic, expensive parking and long walks to the ballpark, not just on Opening Day, but throughout the season.
By Train
Guaranteed Rate Field is just one block west of the Sox-35th stop on the Red Line. It’s also just three blocks west of the 35th-Bronzeville-IIT stop on the Green Line. Customers can connect to the Red or Green lines, which provide free transfers at multiple locations and will have signage directing customers where to transfer and exit.

By Bus
You also can leave the driving to us using various CTA bus lines. To get to the ballpark, or within a few blocks, fans can use:
- #1 Bronzeville/Union Station (during Monday – Friday rush periods only)
- #4 Cottage Grove
- #24 Wentworth
- #29 State
- #31 31st (which runs to 7 p.m.)
- #35 35th (which connects with Orange and Green lines)
- #39 Pershing (which connects with Orange and Green lines)
- #44 Wallace/Racine
Fare Information
Looking to avoid long lines at rail stations and decrease your travel time? The CTA recommends that customers plan ahead and purchase fares in advance. Below are some of the convenient methods to pay your way on the CTA:
- Existing Ventra card users: Customers can load their registered Ventra cards ahead of time with either transit value or unlimited ride passes (1-day, 3-day, 7-day and 30-day) via the free Ventra app, at rail stations, online or at nearly 1,000 local retailers (for locations available or to download the app, visit ventrachicago.com).
- Visitors: Available at Ventra vending machines located in all CTA rail stations are 1-day unlimited ride tickets ($10) or single-ride tickets ($3 at all rail stations, except O’Hare, which costs $5) that offer up to two transfers within two hours. Customers can also obtain reloadable Ventra fare cards at all Ventra vending machines.
- Electronic fare payments: Customers can pay their fare with contactless bankcards and mobile wallets (e.g. Apple Pay or Android Pay), which will deduct $2.50 for each tap of the card or mobile device on buses or at rail stations. Transfers are not available with these payment options – to transfer, customers will need to obtain a Ventra fare card or ticket.
- Cash: Cash payments are accepted on buses and require exact fare. No transfers are available with cash fares, only with Ventra fare cards and tickets.
