Temporary Blue Line Subway Closure This Weekend for Slow Zone Work

August 22, 2007
08/22/07

This weekend CTA will temporarily suspend service on the O'Hare branch of the Blue Line between Western/Milwaukee and Clark/Lake on Friday, August 24 from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. Monday, August 27, in order to replace rail ties. Bus shuttles will operate as a substitute for rail service making stops at Western/Milwaukee, Damen, Division, Chicago, Grand, Clark/Lake, Washington, Monroe and Jackson. CTA customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

The work is part of an aggressive plan to eliminate slow zones. CTA is replacing deteriorated wooden rail ties with concrete rail ties which will eliminate slow zones along the tracks between Grand and Division and restore normal train speed to 55 mph.

Weeknights through mid-September, single tracks will typically be in effect from Grand to Division from 8 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning, Monday night through Friday morning. Customers will board and exit trains on one side of the platform and are advised to allow extra travel time during single track hours.
