Statement on Status of Yellow Line reopening (11/29/23)

November 29, 2023

The CTA continues to work toward the reopening of the Yellow Line. The reopening date is still to be determined.

Safety is our No. 1 consideration. The CTA is currently engaged in an extremely thorough review of all aspects of the Yellow Line, from signals to tracks to equipment, as well as testing trains to ensure safe operation. These activities require time to perform. Once this review is complete, service will resume.

CTA also continues its close cooperation with the NTSB, which is still investigating the Nov. 16 incident, including keeping the NTSB apprised of our review and testing of the Yellow Line prior to reopening.

CTA will continue to inform the public about the status of the reopening. The agency also continues to provide free shuttle buses for Yellow Line customers, connecting the Howard station and the two Skokie stations, Oakton-Skokie and Dempster-Skokie.
