Work originally scheduled to take place on the Brown Line Saturday and Sunday has been changed to Saturday only. The Kedzie and Rockwell stations on the Brown Line will temporarily close from 3 a.m. Saturday, October 7 to 5 a.m. Sunday, October 8. Brown Line trains will resume normal service at Kedzie and Rockwell on Sunday morning at 5 a.m.
The construction work planned for Saturday is dependent on good weather. If the work is postponed due to weather conditions CTA will notify customers by placing updated Customer Alerts at impacted stations and on Brown Line trains and buses on local routes, in addition to posting the information on its web site.
During the Saturday closure of Kedzie and Rockwell, Brown Line trains will operate between the Loop and Western station. Bus shuttle service will be provided to customers free of charge from Western station to Kimball station during regular Brown Line hours as a substitute for rail service. Both the Kedzie and Rockwell stations will re-open for service at 5 a.m. Sunday morning. The bus shuttle will make stops at the Western station, Rockwell and Lawrence, Sacramento and Lawrence, Kedzie and Lawrence, Kedzie and Wilson, and at the Kimball station.
In addition to the shuttle service, there are seven existing CTA bus routes that provide service near the Kedzie, Rockwell, Kimball and Francisco stations: the #11 Lincoln, #49 Western, #49B North Western, #78 Montrose, #81 Lawrence,
#82 Kimball/Homan and the #93 California/Dodge.
On September 15, both the Kimball and Francisco stations temporarily closed for reconstruction. The Kimball station will remain closed for four months and the Francisco station will remain closed for six months. Western station will remain open throughout construction.
Customers in close proximity to the Kedzie station are also served by the following four CTA bus routes: #78 Montrose,
#81 Lawrence, #82 Kimball/Homan and #93 California/Dodge. Customers in close proximity to the Rockwell station are served by the following six CTA bus routes: #11 Lincoln, #49 Western, #49B North Western, #X49 Western Express, #78 Montrose and the #81 Lawrence.
Throughout the Brown Line construction project, slow zones and single track operation are periodically necessary near construction activity so, as a general rule, we advise rail customers to allow extra travel time. Information on scheduled service impacts are provided through Customer Alerts in rail stations, on CTA buses and trains, provided to media through press releases and posted on CTA's Brown Line web site at www.ctabrownline.com, as well as CTA's web site at www.transitchicago.com.
