Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning Weekend of September 26-28

Reroutes in Effect on Elevated Routes as Signal Work Resumes
The CTA continues slow zone prevention work this week on the Loop elevated tracks. Crews are replacing track and rail ties, and installing a new signal and train control system.

The most intense work is scheduled on the Lake Street and Wabash Avenue tracks on weekends resulting in reroutes for Brown, Orange, Pink and Green Line trains, with some work scheduled on select weeknights.

Blue Line - Slow Zone Work
Blue Line Service between Belmont and Montrose Temporarily Suspended This Weekend

Rail service between the Belmont and Montrose Blue Line stations will be temporarily suspended from 9 p.m. Friday, September 26 to 3 a.m. Monday, September 29, in order to replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.

Bus shuttles will operate as a substitute for rail service between the Belmont and Montrose stations.

In addition, CTA personnel will be available to direct customers to awaiting buses. Customers should allow extra travel time.

Alternate service for customers with disabilities
CTA also will provide a bus shuttle for customers who need an elevator to access rail service because the Belmont and Montrose stations are not equipped with elevators. Southbound customers who need an elevator to access rail service should board the CTA shuttle bus at Jefferson Park which will proceed to the accessible Logan Square station.

Northbound customers are advised to exit at Logan Square rather than traveling to Belmont, where they can board a CTA shuttle bus to the accessible Jefferson Park station. Customers with disabilities also have the option of boarding a #56 Milwaukee bus which operates between the Logan Square and Jefferson Park stations.

Single Track in Effect for O'Hare Branch Blue Line Trains Next Week
A late night single track will be in effect for Blue Line trains operating between the Addison and Belmont stations from 10 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Tuesday night, September 30 through Friday morning, October 3.

During these times, southbound Blue Line customers at the Addison and Belmont stations must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.

CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Red Line - Slow Zone Work
Northbound Red Line Subway Trains Temporarily Rerouted to Elevated Tracks on Monday

Northbound Red Line trains that normally operate through the subway between the Cermak-Chinatown and Fullerton stations will be temporarily rerouted to the elevated tracks from 9 p.m. Monday, September 29 until 5 a.m. Tuesday, September 30.

Rerouted northbound trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Cermak-Chinatown and Fullerton: Roosevelt/Wabash, Adams/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake, Clark/Lake, Merchandise Mart, Chicago/Franklin, Sedgwick and Armitage. At Fullerton, trains will resume regular routing. Please note: the Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) on from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Northbound Red Line trains will operate normally between the 95th and Cermak-Chinatown stations and the Fullerton and Howard stations. Southbound Red Line service is not affected.

Brown Line - Slow Zone Work
Brown Line Trains Rerouted between Western and Addison This Weekend

Brown Line trains will be temporarily rerouted between the Western and Addison stations from 3 a.m. Saturday, September 27 until 3 a.m. Monday, September 29.

Southbound Brown Line customers at Montrose must board and exit trains from the northbound platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Blue Line - Other Events Affecting Service
Late Night Single Track in Effect for Blue Line Trains between Racine and LaSalle
From 10 p.m. Monday, September 29 until 4 a.m. the following morning, a single track will be in effect for northbound Blue Line trains operating between the Racine and LaSalle stations due to signal repair work.

Southbound Blue Line customers at the LaSalle, Clinton and UIC-Halsted stations must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.

CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Red Line - Other Events Affecting Service
Single Track In Effect This Weekend Between Grand and Roosevelt

A single track will be in effect for southbound Red Line trains between Grand and Roosevelt from 11 p.m. Saturday, September 27 until 7 a.m. Sunday, September 28, due to escalator renewal work.

Southbound customers at the Lake, Monroe, Jackson, Harrison and Roosevelt stations must board and exit trains on the northbound side of the platform.

CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Late Night Single Track in Effect for Southbound Red Line Subway Trains
Due to construction work, a single track will be in effect for southbound Red Line subway trains operating between the Grand and Roosevelt stations from 11 p.m. Wednesday, October 1 to 4 a.m. the following morning.

During this time, southbound Red Line customers at the Lake, Monroe, Jackson, Harrison and Roosevelt stations must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.

CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Bryn Mawr and Argyle Red Line Stations Temporarily Closed This Weekend
Beginning at 1 a.m. Saturday, September 27 until 4 a.m. Monday, September 29
the Red Line's Bryn Mawr and Argyle stations will be temporarily closed in preparation for station renovations.

Customers who board or exit at Bryn Mawr can use the adjacent Berwyn or Thorndale stations. #84 Peterson buses that normally serve the Bryn Mawr station will be temporarily rerouted to the Thorndale station.

Customers who normally board or exit at Argyle can use the nearby Berwyn or Lawrence stations. The #151 Sheridan and #36 Broadway bus routes also provide nearby travel options.

Normal service at Bryn Mawr and Argyle will resume at 4 a.m. on Monday.

Brown Line - Other Events Affecting Service
Red and Brown Line Trains Temporarily Rerouted at Fullerton and
Southbound Red and Brown Line trains will be temporarily rerouted at Belmont and Fullerton from 9 p.m. Friday, September 26 until 7 p.m. Saturday, September 27 for construction work as part of the Brown Line Capacity Expansion project.

Southbound Red and Brown Line customers at Belmont and Fullerton will board and exit trains from the northbound Red Line side of the platform. Northbound Red Line customers must board and exit trains from the side of the platform where northbound Brown Line trains berth.

During this time, southbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at Diversey. Southbound Brown Line customers traveling to Diversey should exit at Fullerton and board a northbound train to Diversey. Customers boarding at Diversey traveling southbound should board a northbound train and exit at Belmont to board a southbound train.

Also, during this time, Belmont Avenue will be closed at the Brown Line station and #77 Belmont buses will undergo temporary reroutes. Eastbound buses will travel over the regular route to Sheffield then will operate via Sheffield, Addison, Halsted then return to Belmont and resume the regular route. Westbound buses will travel the reverse route.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Red and Brown Line Trains Temporarily Rerouted at Belmont This Weekend
The temporary reroute of southbound Red and Brown Line trains will continue at Belmont on Sunday from 7 p.m. Saturday, September 27 until 4:30 a.m. Monday, September 29.

Southbound Red and Brown Line customers at Belmont will board and exit trains from the northbound Red Line side of the platform. Northbound Red Line customers must board and exit trains from the platform where northbound Brown Line trains berth.

During this time, southbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at Diversey. Southbound Brown Line customers traveling to Diversey should exit at Fullerton and board a northbound train to Diversey. Customers boarding at Diversey traveling southbound should board a northbound train and exit at Belmont to board a southbound train.

Also, during this time, Belmont Avenue will be closed at the Brown Line station and #77 Belmont buses will undergo temporary reroutes. Eastbound buses will travel over the regular route to Sheffield then will operate via Sheffield, Addison, Halsted then return to Belmont and resume the regular route. Westbound buses will travel the reverse route.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Additional Bus and Rail Service for Special Events
CTA Provides Service for Bears Game

The #12 Roosevelt, #128 Soldier Field Express and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express are convenient travel options for fans heading to the Bears game on Sunday, September 28 versus the Philadelphia Eagles. Kickoff is at 7:15 p.m.

#128 Soldier Field Express operates non-stop between the Ogilvie Transportation Center, Union Station and Soldier Field. Service will operate from 5:15 p.m. until 8 p.m. After the game, buses will leave Soldier Field every few minutes for one hour.

The fare for #128 buses is $1 for full-fare customers and 50 cents for reduced-fare customers. The exact cash fare is required to receive the special rate.

In addition, Red, Orange and Green line trains serve customers traveling to and from Soldier Field. The stations are located at Roosevelt and State, a few blocks west of the stadium.

#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Events
CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses for the following dates and times:

  • Friday, September 26 at 7:30 p.m. - Blackhawks versus Minnesota Wild
  • Sunday, September 28 at 6 p.m. - Blackhawks versus Dallas Stars
  • Monday, September 29 at 7:30 p.m. - How Sweet the Sound Gospel Concert

 

Please Note: changes to previous details on #19 United Center Express service
Buses will leave every 10 minutes from Michigan and Randolph starting 90-minutes before the start of the event until the starting time of the event. When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.

#19 buses will no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but will continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.

After the event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses operate through downtown east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service
Downtown Buses Reroute for Construction

LaSalle Street will be closed from 9 p.m. Monday, September 26 until 6 a.m. Monday, September 29 due to work on the Loop elevated tracks. Four CTA bus routes will undergo temporary reroutes during this time.

Northbound #156 LaSalle, #134 Stockton/LaSalle Express, #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express and #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express buses will travel over the regular route to Randolph then will operate via Randolph, Franklin, Wacker then return to LaSalle and resume the regular route.

Southbound #156, #134, #135 and #136 will travel over the regular route to Wacker then will operate via Wacker, Clark, Randolph then return to LaSalle and resume the regular route.

Buses Reroute for Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5K Run
Balbo will be closed between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive, and Columbus will be closed between Balbo and Roosevelt from 4 a.m. until approximately 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 27 for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5K Run/Walk. Nine CTA bus routes will undergo reroutes during this time.

Buses along routes #3 King Drive, #4 Cottage Grove, #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #12 Roosevelt, #14 Jeffery Express, #126 Jackson, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan and #147 Outer Drive Express will reroute to adjacent streets around the area of the parade.

Hamlin/Ogden Closed for Lawndale 5K Run
From 8 a.m. until Noon on Saturday, September 27, Avers from Ogden to 19th, Ogden, Central Park, Douglas Blvd and Sacramento will be closed to all traffic for the Lawndale 5K Walk/Run.

Northbound #82 Kimball/Homan buses will travel over the regular route to Central Park and 22nd then will operate via 22nd, Pulaski, Roosevelt to Homan and then resume the regular route. Southbound buses will travel the reverse route.

Construction Reroutes #36 Broadway Buses
From 8 a.m. until Noon on Saturday, September 27, State at Delaware will be closed to all traffic for construction work.

Northbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route to Chicago then will operate via Chicago, Dearborn, Elm to Clark then return to the regular route.

Southbound buses will travel over the regular route to Chicago then will operate via Clark, Chicago, to State and then resume the regular route.

Five CTA Bus Routes Detoured Due to Repairs on the Michigan Avenue Bridge
Due to maintenance and repair work on the Michigan Avenue Bridge, five CTA bus routes will continue to be detoured each night from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following morning until Sunday morning, September 29.

The reroute affects #3 King Drive, #66 Chicago, #146 Marine/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses operating in both directions.

Northbound #3 King Drive, #146 Marine/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses will operate over the regular route along Michigan Avenue to Wacker then travel via Wacker, Dearborn, Ohio to Michigan and then resume the regular route. Southbound #3, #146, #147 and #151 buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan to Ontario then operate via Ontario, Clark, Wacker to Michigan and then resume the regular route.

Eastbound late night #66 Chicago buses will operate over the regular route along Chicago Avenue to Fairbanks then travel via Fairbanks, Columbus, South Water to Michigan and then resume the regular route. Westbound #66 buses will operate via Michigan to South Water, Columbus, Fairbanks to Michigan and then resume the regular route.

Block 37 Construction Work Temporarily Reroutes 14 Routes This Weekend
From midnight until 5 a.m. the following morning on Monday, September 29 and Tuesday, September 30, State Street will be closed between Madison and Randolph due to construction work.

Fifteen CTA bus routes will be rerouted to adjacent streets. Rerouting these bus routes away from construction activity will improve the reliability of CTA bus service in the area and create a more predictable flow of traffic for the duration of this phase of the project.

#151 Sheridan and #147 Outer Drive Express Undergo Temporarily Rerouted
Northbound #151 Sheridan and #147 Outer Drive Express buses will undergo temporary reroutes until 6 a.m. Tuesday, September 30 due to a lane reduction at State Street and Washington.

Buses will travel over the regular route to Washington and State then will operate via State to Lake to Michigan and then resume the regular route.

#78 Montrose Buses Temporarily Rerouted through October
Due to work sewer work, Montrose Avenue at Ravenswood will be closed to all traffic through Monday, October 13.

Eastbound #78 Montrose buses will operate over the regular route along Montrose to Damen then travel via Damen to Wilson and resume the regular route. Westbound #78 buses will travel the reverse route.

Four CTA Bus Routes Detoured for Chicago Bears Game Traffic
In anticipation of heavy traffic along Roosevelt Road and Lake Shore Drive for Sunday's Chicago Bears game, four CTA bus routes will be detoured beginning 90 minutes before the game and ending 90 minutes after the game ends.

During this time, southbound #3 King Drive buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan Avenue to 14th then will operate via 14th to Indiana and then resume the regular route. Northbound #3 buses will travel the regular route.

Southbound #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #14 Jeffrey Express buses will operate over the regular route along Michigan to Cermak and then will travel via Cermak, King Drive, 31st to Lake Shore Drive and then resume the regular route. Northbound #6, #10 and #14 buses will travel the reverse route.

Bus Temporarily Relocated on Dearborn at Jackson
The northbound near side bus stop on Dearborn at Jackson that is served by #22 Clark, #24 Wentworth, #36 Broadway, #62 Archer and #129 West Loop/South Loop buses has been temporarily relocated to the south side between Jackson and Van Buren due to construction. The relocation is in effect through October 11.

Route Change in Effect for #12 Roosevelt
A route change has been implemented for the #12 Roosevelt as the result of CTA no longer using the Monitor Bus Terminal. As a result, buses will extend their trips west to Mason where they will wait until beginning the eastbound trip.

Eastbound buses will travel west on Roosevelt to Austin, north on Austin to Fillmore, east on Fillmore to Mason, south on Mason to Roosevelt and then resume the eastbound route along Roosevelt.

Due to this change, a new stop has been added at Roosevelt at Mason, and the Mason at Roosevelt southbound far side stop has been changed to a near side stop. The Roosevelt and Monitor stop has been removed.

Ongoing Bus Reroutes
#86 Narragansett/Ridgeland Buses Rerouted Due to Street Repairs
Due to street repairs, South Boulevard will be closed between Ridgeland and Lombard until 6 a.m. Sunday, October 5.

Southbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland buses will operate over the regular route along Lake to Austin then travel via Austin, Washington, Ridgeland, South Boulevard to the Ridgeland Green Line station for the end of the route and start of northbound service. Northbound #86 buses will serve the near side stop at Ridgeland/South Boulevard.

#95W West 95th Buses Rerouted for Railroad Crossing Repairs
Effective 6 a.m. Wednesday, September 24 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, October 1, 95th Street will be closed at Wood Street due to the replacement of the railroad crossing.

Westbound #95W West 95th buses will travel over the regular route along 95th to Ashland then will operate via Ashland/Beverly, 99th, Longwood to 95th and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #95W buses will travel the reverse route.

Road Repairs Temporarily Reroute #201 and #206 Buses
Until Monday, September 29, southbound Ridge Avenue between Davis and Main will be closed due to street reconstruction.

Southbound #201 Central/Ridge buses will operate over the regular route along Chicago to Davis then travel via Davis, Asbury, Main to Ridge and then resume the regular route.

For the evening rush period, southbound #206 buses will operate along Dempster to Asbury then travel via Asbury, Main to Ridge and then resume the regular route.

Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer's Market
From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 25, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer's Market.

During this time, southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route to Clark then will operate via Clark, Maple to State and then resume the regular route.

Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route to State then will travel via State, Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.

Eastbound #70 Division buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound service is not affected.

Sewer Repair Work Reroutes #78 Montrose Buses
Due to sewer repair work, Montrose Avenue will be closed between Wolcott and Hermitage until 4 a.m. Monday, October 27. Eastbound #78 Montrose buses will operate over the regular route along Montrose to Damen then travel via Damen, Wilson, Clark to Montrose and then resume the regular route. Westbound #78 buses will travel the reverse route.

Buses Reroute Downtown for Construction
From midnight each weeknight until 6 a.m. the following morning, Randolph Street will be closed from State to Dearborn through Saturday morning, November 1.

In addition, Dearborn Street is closed between Washington and Randolph from 9 p.m. each weeknight until 6 a.m. the following morning through Saturday morning,
November 1.

Northbound #22 Clark, #36 Broadway and #62 Archer buses will travel over the regular route along Dearborn to Monroe and will then operate via Monroe, State, Wacker to Dearborn and then resume the regular route.

Bridge Reconstruction Reroutes Buses
The reroute of #205 Chicago/Golf buses will continue until November 16, due to bridge reconstruction on Emerson between Leland and McCormick. #205 buses will operate in both directions via Church, McCormick to Golf and then resume the regular route.

Railroad Bridge Repairs Reroute #75 74th/75th Buses
Until Wednesday, December 31, 2008, #75 74th/75th buses will be rerouted on weekdays only from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. due to railroad bridge repair work in the 7500 block of South Loomis Street. Eastbound #75 buses will travel along 74th Street to Ashland then will operate via Ashland, 76th, Racine to 74th and resume the regular route. Westbound #75 buses will operate the reverse route.

Buses Rerouted on Harrison Due to Construction
Harrison Street between Paulina Street and Ashland Avenue continues to be closed until Thursday, January 1, 2009, due to construction.

Eastbound #7 buses will travel over the regular route to Paulina then will operate via Polk, Ashland to Harrison and resume the regular route.

Eastbound #126 buses operating during late evenings, weekends and holidays will travel over the regular route to Harrison then will operate via Harrison, Wood, Polk, Ashland to Harrison and then resume the regular route.

Bus Stop Temporarily Relocated
Until further notice, the westbound mid-block bus stop located at Harrison near Paulina served by the #7 Harrison will be temporarily relocated around the corner on Paulina due to construction.

Bus Stop Relocated Due to Construction at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive
Until June 1, 2011, the bus stop located at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive, served by #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #157 Streeterville buses, will be relocated due to construction. Customers must board and exit #157 buses at Inner Lake Shore Drive and Pearson. #10 customers should board on Chestnut between Mies Van der Rohe and Michigan or on Michigan southbound at Pearson.

CTA Buses Rerouted Around Wells Street Bridge
Until further notice, two CTA buses will be rerouted around the Wells Street Bridge due to maintenance and repair work.

Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick and westbound #125 Water Tower Express buses will operate over the regular route along Wells to Hubbard then travel via Hubbard, LaSalle, Wacker to Wells and then resume the regular route. Northbound #11 and eastbound #125 buses are not affected and will operate over their regular routes.

#24 Wentworth Buses Temporarily Rerouted Due to Sewer Repair Work
Until further notice, #24 Wentworth buses will be temporarily rerouted to adjacent streets due to sewer repair work at the intersection of Vincennes Avenue and 71st Street.

#34 South Michigan Buses Temporarily Rerouted Due to Construction
Until further notice, 130th Street at Indiana Avenue will be closed due to viaduct and sewer repair work. Southbound #34 South Michigan buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan to 115th and then operate via 115th, Bishop Ford Expressway, 130th to Langley and then resume the regular route. Northbound #34 buses will travel the reverse route. During this time, bus shuttles will operate along Michigan Avenue between 115th and 127th streets.

Bus Service Changes Due to Construction at State and Grand
#36 Broadway and southbound #29 State buses are rerouting until further notice at Grand Avenue and State Street due to construction at the Red Line's Grand station. Southbound #36 and #29 buses will travel over the regular route to Grand then will operate via Clark to Illinois then return to State and resume the regular route.

Northbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route to Dearborn then will operate via Dearborn to Ohio, then return to State and resume the regular route.

Bus Stop Temporarily Relocated
Until further notice, the westbound near side bus stop located at Grand and State, served by the #29 State, #36 Broadway and #65 Grand buses, will be temporarily relocated to a near side stop at Grand and Dearborn due to construction.

Buses Reroute Due to Construction
Halsted is closed at Root Street from 6 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. and again at 4 p.m. until
6 p.m. each day until further notice, due to construction. Westbound #43 43rd buses will operate over the regular route to Halsted and then will travel via Halsted, 45th Street, Morgan to Exchange and resume the regular route. Eastbound #43 buses will operate the reverse route.

#60 Blue Island/26th Buses Rerouted Due to Lane Closure
Until further notice, Laflin Street between Cermak and 21st Place will be closed to all traffic due to construction at Benito Juarez School. Eastbound #60 Blue Island/26th buses will travel over the regular route to Cermak then will operate via Cermak, Loomis, 21st Street then return to Laflin and resume the regular route. Westbound #60 buses will operate the reverse route.

Railroad Track Repairs Temporarily Reroute Buses
#63W West 63rd Street buses will undergo reroutes around 63rd and Harlem Avenue until Monday, September 29 due to street closures for repairs to railroad tracks.

Eastbound buses will travel over the regular route along 63rd to Harlem then will operate via Harlem, 65th, Oak Park then return to 63rd and resume the regular route. Westbound buses will operate the reverse route.
