Slow Zone Work
Red Line Trains to Temporarily Reroute to Elevated Tracks

While work is under way to eliminate slow zones, service on the Red Line between Fullerton station and Cermak/Chinatown will be temporarily suspended in both directions from 11 p.m. Friday, October 12 until 1 a.m. Monday, October 15. North and southbound Red Line trains will be rerouted from the subway to the elevated tracks throughout the weekend. Elevated stations are located within a block of Red Line subway stations in the Loop. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Red Line trains will operate normally between the Cermak/Chinatown and 95th stations and between the Howard and Fullerton stations.

Rerouted trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Cermak/Chinatown and Fullerton: Roosevelt/Wabash, Adams/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake, Clark/Lake, Merchandise Mart, Chicago/Franklin and Sedgwick. The Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) on Friday from 11:50 p.m. to 5 a.m. Saturday morning, on Saturday night from 11:50 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday morning and from 11:50 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday morning.

In addition to running Red Line trains on the elevated tracks, CTA will operate three bus shuttles to help customers make their normal connections.

Bus shuttle service will operate between the Clark/Division station and North/Clybourn station, stopping at the Sedgwick Brown Line station where customers may board Red Line trains.

Bus shuttle service also will operate from the Grand/State and Chicago/State stations to the Chicago/Franklin Brown Line station where customers may board Red Line trains.

Additional bus shuttle service will operate between Jackson/State, Jackson/Wabash, Harrison/State, and Roosevelt/Wabash where customers may board Red Line trains.

Southbound Red Line trains that normally operate through the subway between the Fullerton station and the Cermak/Chinatown station will be rerouted from the subway to the elevated tracks from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on four nights next week, Monday, October 15 through Thursday, October 18. Northbound service is not affected.

Other Events Affecting Service
Daytime Reroute at Fullerton Saturday

A reroute will be in effect on the Red and Brown lines at Fullerton station from 1:15 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday,
October 13.

Southbound Red Line customers will board trains on the Brown Line side of the platform at Fullerton. Northbound Red and Brown Line customers will board trains on the southbound platform where southbound Red Line trains normally stop.

During the same hours, northbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at Wellington. Northbound customers who wish to exit at Wellington should ride to Belmont and take a southbound train to Wellington. Northbound customers who wish to board at Wellington should take a southbound train to Fullerton and board a northbound train.

Customers are asked to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

Single Track in Effect on O'Hare Branch of the Blue Line
A single track will be in effect between the Addison and Montrose stations on the O'Hare branch of the Blue Line from 11 p.m. Friday, October 12 until 9 a.m. Saturday, October 13. Northbound customers at the Irving Park station must board trains on the southbound side of the platform.

From 9 p.m. Saturday, October 13 until 9 a.m. Sunday, October 14 a single track will be in effect between the Addison and Jefferson Park stations. Northbound customers boarding at Irving Park and Montrose must board on the southbound side of the platform.

From 4 p.m. Sunday, October 14 until 4 a.m. Monday,
October 15 a single track will be in effect between the Harlem and Cumberland stations. Southbound customers boarding at Harlem must board on the northbound side of the platform.

A single track will be in effect from 10 p.m. each night until
4 a.m. each morning from Monday, October 15 to Thursday, October 18 between the Racine and LaSalle stations. Northbound customers boarding at Halsted, Clinton and LaSalle stations must board trains on the southbound side of the platform.

Red Line Trains Temporarily Reroute at Sheridan
Southbound Red Line trains will operate on the southbound Purple Express tracks at Sheridan from 10 a.m. each morning until 2 p.m. each afternoon on Thursday, October 11 and Friday, October 12 and again Monday, October 15 through Friday, October 19.

Southbound customers at Sheridan will board and exit trains on the Purple Express side of the platform.

On Saturday, October 13 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks at Sheridan. Red Line customers must board trains on the Purple Express side of the platform.

Red Line Trains Temporarily Reroute at Belmont
Southbound Red Line trains will operate on the southbound Brown/Purple Express tracks at Belmont from 9 a.m. untilSouthbound Red Line trains will be rerouted to the southbound Brown/Purple Express tracks from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on three nights next week, Tuesday, October 16 through Thursday, October 18. Southbound Red Line customers must board trains on the southbound Brown/Purple Express side of the platform.

Temporary Entrance Opens at Chicago Avenue Brown Line Station
On Monday, October 15 at 5 a.m., the entrance to the Chicago Avenue Brown Line station will be temporarily relocated to Superior and Franklin?one block south of the existing entrance?as CTA continues work to rebuild the Chicago Avenue station and extend platforms as part of the Brown Line capacity expansion project.

Customers will use new stairways to the elevated platforms at the temporary entrance to access Purple Line Express and Brown Line trains.

Southbound Platform Out of Service at Red Line Howard Station This Weekend
The southbound platform at the Howard Red Line station will be temporarily out of service for construction work from 11 p.m. Friday, October 12 until 4 a.m. Monday, October 15. Customers must board trains on the northbound platform.

Weekend Brown Line Single Track in Effect
A single track will be in effect between the Western and Francisco stations on the Brown Line from 3 a.m. Saturday, October 13 until 3 a.m. Monday, October 15 due to construction.

Customers boarding at the Western, Francisco and Rockwell stations will board all trains on the same side of the track. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.

During the single track, customers at Francisco must use the auxiliary entrance on Sacramento as the main entrance will be unavailable.

At Rockwell, the station entrance will be partially blocked in phases during construction hours and customers will be re-directed to adjacent streets to enter the station. Customers also have the option of boarding trains at the Western station which is within walking distance of the Rockwell station.

#19 United Center Express Buses ServesChicago Bulls Game
The CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses for the Bulls first home game at the United Center on Friday, October 12 versus the Dallas Mavericks. Game time is
7:30 p.m.

Buses will leave every 12 minutes from Michigan and Superior starting two hours before game time until 30 minutes before the game begins. When the game ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.

#19 buses will make all stops on Michigan from Superior to Washington, and on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.

After the game, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses operate through downtown east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making all stops from Randolph to Chicago.

CTA Provides Convenient Service for College Football Game
From 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, CTA will operate longer trains on the Purple Line for the Northwestern University homecoming game versus the Minnesota Golden Gophers at Ryan Field. Game time is 11 a.m. The stadium is located approximately three blocks from the Central station.

CTA Provides Service for Bears versus Vikings Game
The Chicago Bears host the Minnesota Vikings at Solder Field on Sunday, October 14 at noon. The #12 Roosevelt, #128 Soldier Field Express and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express are a convenient travel option for fans heading to the game.

More frequent service will operate on the #12 and the #146 beginning at 10 a.m. #128 Soldier Field Express buses operate non-stop between the Ogilvie Transportation Center, Union Station and Soldier Field. Service will operate from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. After the game, buses will leave Soldier Field every few minutes for one hour.

The fare for #128 buses is $1 for full-fare customers and 50 cents for reduced-fare customers. The exact cash fare is required.

In addition, CTA will operate longer Orange and Green Line trains for customers traveling to and from Soldier Field. The station is at Roosevelt and State, a few blocks west of the stadium.

CTA Provides Service to Concerts at United Center
The Chicago Transit Authority will operate its #19 United Center Express buses for the Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony concert on Sunday, October 14 and the Van Halen concert on Thursday, October 18.

On their respective dates, both concerts start at 7:30 p.m. at the United Center. The #19 buses will begin their trips south on Michigan from Superior at 5:30 p.m. Buses will operate approximately every 12 minutes until the last bus leaves at
7:00 p.m.

For one hour after the concert ends, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison at Wood near Gate 3, departing approximately every 15 minutes.

Buses Undergo Reroute on Belmont
#77 Belmont buses will be rerouted from 9:15 p.m. each night until 5 a.m. each morning beginning Tuesday, October 16 through Saturday morning, October 20. Buses will operate in both directions via Belmont, Sheffield, Addison, Halsted then return to Belmont and resume the regular route.

Buses Reroute for Construction
Northbound #24 Wentworth buses will reroute until 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 13 due to construction. Buses will operate via Wentworth/LaSalle, 47th, State, 43rd then return to LaSalle and resume the regular route. Southbound buses are not affected.

Buses Reroute for Columbus Day Parade
Columbus will be closed from Roosevelt to Monroe and Balbo will be closed from Michigan to Lake Shore Drive from 7:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, October 13 for the Columbus Day Parade.

#6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #14 Jeffery Express and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses will operate in both directions via Lake Shore Drive, Columbus, Roosevelt, Michigan, Balbo and then resume their regular routes.

Buses Reroute for Block 37 Construction
State Street will be closed between Madison and Randolph for construction work at Block 37 from 9 p.m. Friday, October 12 until 6 a.m. Monday, October 15.

Fourteen CTA bus routes will be rerouted to adjacent streets. The routes include:

  • #6 Jackson Park Express
  • #10 Museum of Science & Industry
  • #20 Madison
  • #22 Clark
  • #29 State
  • #56 Milwaukee
  • #60 Blue Island/26th
  • #62 Archer
  • #66 Chicago

  • #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express
  • #147 Outer Drive Express
  • #151 Sheridan

Temporary Bus Stop Changes
Due to construction, designated bus stops along Grand will be temporarily relocated from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day beginning Monday, October 15 until Sunday, November 4.

The westbound near side bus stop at Grand and State that is served by the #65 Grand route will be relocated to the existing near side stop at Grand and Dearborn.

The southbound near side stop at State and Grand that is served by the #36 Broadway route and the southbound far side stop served by #29 State buses will temporarily relocate to a new southbound near side bus stop at State and Illinois.

The northbound near side stop at Grand and State that is served by the #36 Broadway route will be relocated to a new northbound near stop at State and Ohio.
