Red Line Subway Trains to Temporarily Reroute to Elevated Tracks Over Weekend

Red Line trains that normally operate through the subway will reroute to the elevated tracks over the weekend. Between Fullerton and Roosevelt, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the elevated tracks from 11 p.m. Friday, May 18 until 5 p.m. Sunday, May 20 due to planned construction and maintenance work.

Customers are asked to allow extra travel time.

Red Line trains will operate normally from Howard to Fullerton, and from 95th to Cermak-Chinatown. Rerouted Red Line trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Cermak-Chinatown and Fullerton: Roosevelt/Wabash, Adams/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Randolph/Wabash, State/Lake, Clark/Lake, Merchandise Mart, Chicago/Franklin and Sedgwick. Please note, the Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) on Saturday morning from 12:50 a.m. to 5:10 a.m. and on Sunday morning from 12:50 a.m. to 7:10 a.m.

In addition to running Red Line trains on the elevated tracks, CTA will operate three bus shuttles that will operate throughout the reroute to help customers make their normal connections. All shuttle service will connect to elevated stations where customers will be able to board northbound and southbound Red Line trains. (See separate release.)

Southbound Red Line Subway Trains to Temporarily Reroute to Elevated Tracks Late Night Next Week

Southbound service on the Red Line between the Fullerton station and the Cermak-Chinatown stations will be rerouted from the subway to the elevated tracks from 5 p.m. Sunday, May 20 until 1 a.m. Monday, May 21. Southbound Red Line subway trains will again be rerouted to the elevated tracks from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Monday, May 21, Tuesday, May 22, Wednesday, May 23 and Thursday, May 24 due to planned construction and maintenance work.

Rerouted southbound trains will stop at the following elevated stations between Cermak-Chinatown and Fullerton: Sedgwick, Chicago/Franklin, Merchandise Mart, Clark/Lake, State/Lake, Randolph/Wabash, Madison/Wabash, Adams/Wabash and Roosevelt/Wabash. Please note, the Merchandise Mart station is available as an exit only (via stairway) on from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Customers who wish to travel southbound from downtown stations can access southbound Red Line trains at any of the elevated stations along Wabash or Lake streets. Customers who wish to travel southbound from the Grand, Chicago, Clark/Division or North/Clybourn Red Line stations can board a northbound train and exit at Fullerton to access southbound Red Line trains.

Southbound customers who wish to exit at the Grand, Chicago, Clark/Division or North/Clybourn stations should travel to the State/Lake elevated station and board a northbound Red Line train at the Lake Street subway station.

Southbound Red Line trains will operate normally between the Howard and Fullerton stations and between the Cermak-Chinatown and 95th Street stations. Customers are asked to allow extra travel time.

Northbound Red Line service is not affected.

Nine CTA Bus Routes to Reroute Around Block 37 Construction Site Beginning Tuesday

CTA will reroute nine bus routes that currently operate near the Block 37 construction site. They are the #14 Jeffery Express, #20 Madison, #X20 Washington/Madison Express, #56 Milwaukee, #60 Blue Island/26th, #124 Navy Pier, #127 Madison/Roosevelt Circulator, #129 West Loop/South Loop and the #157 Streeterville.

Summer Service to Museum Campus through Labor Day

Summer service has begun on the CTA's #130 Grant Park Treasures bus route. The #130 operates in both directions between the Ogilvie Transportation Center and Union Station to the Museum Campus on weekends and holidays through Labor Day.

Cubs-Sox Crosstown Weekend Series Begins at Wrigley Field Friday

North and South Side fans are encouraged to avoid traffic congestion by taking public transit to Wrigley Field for the Cubs-Sox series this weekend.

The Chicago Cubs host the Chicago White Sox this weekend at Wrigley Field. The first game of the three-game inter-league series begins Friday, May 18 at 1:20 p.m. Saturday's game begins at 2:55 p.m. and Sunday's game starts at 1:20 p.m.

The Red Line provides direct service to Wrigley Field via the accessible station at Addison. Fans can transfer to Red Line trains from all other rail lines and from most east-west bus routes.

Late Night Single Track in Effect on Blue Line Forest Park Branch Over Weekend and Next Week

A single track will be in effect between the Halsted and LaSalle stations from 11 p.m. Friday, May 18 until 6 a.m. Saturday, May 19. Customers at the Halsted, Clinton and LaSalle stations must board on the southbound side of the platform.

A single track will be in effect between the Austin and Cicero stations from 10 p.m. Saturday, May 19 until 10 a.m. Sunday, May 20. Customers at the Austin station must board on the northbound side of the platform.

Another single track will be in effect between the Pulaski and Cicero stations from 11 p.m. Monday, May 21 until 4 a.m. Tuesday, May 22. Customers at the Pulaski and Cicero stations must board on the northbound side of the platform.

A single track will be in effect between the Kedzie-Homan and Western stations from 11 p.m. Wednesday, May 23 until 4 a.m. Thursday, May 24. Customers at the Western station must board on the southbound side of the platform.
