Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning Weekend of July 6- July 8

Single Track in Effect on Blue Line This Week
Late night single track operation will be in effect throughout the week on the Blue Line between Grand and Damen. Southbound customers boarding at Grand, Chicago and Division should board on the northbound side of the platform at the following times.

  • 9 p.m. Sunday, July 8 until 5 a.m. Monday, July 9
  • 9 p.m. Monday, July 9 until 5 a.m. Tuesday, July 10
  • 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 10 until 5 a.m. Wednesday,
    July 11
  • 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 11 until 5 a.m. Thursday,
    July 12
  • 9 p.m. Thursday, July 12 until 5 a.m. Friday, July 13

CTA is working to replace wooden rail ties with concrete rail ties along this section of track. When completed this maintenance work will allow trains to increase their speed along this section of track and improve travel times for customers.

Additional Service Provided for Taste of Chicago
CTA provides a convenient travel option to the Taste of Chicago in Grant Park which runs until Sunday, July 8. Additional CTA service will be available to provide transportation to the crowds expected to attend the annual event.

The Taste of Chicago street closures are Columbus between Monroe and Balbo, Congress between Michigan and Columbus, and Jackson between Lake Shore Drive and Michigan. Southbound #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #14 Jeffery Express, #26 South Shore Express, #X28 Stony Island Express, #130 Grant Park Treasures, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses will reroute to adjacent streets. Northbound service is not affected.

Eastbound #7 Harrison and #126 Jackson buses will be rerouted in both directions around the street closures to adjacent streets.

#132 Goose Island Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #192 University of Chicago Express buses will reroute in both directions around the street closures to adjacent streets.

Reroutes are scheduled to end at 3 p.m. Monday, July 9. Customers should allow extra travel time.

CTA to Provide Additional Service to The Police Wrigley Field Concerts
CTA is providing additional and later service on rail and bus routes for fans heading to Wrigley Field for The Police concerts on July 5-6. The concerts begin at 7 p.m.

Additional service on the #X80 Irving Park Express will operate from the Irving Park Blue Line and the Irving Park Metra station before the concert only. After the concert ends, customers can use the #80 Irving Park service at Irving Park and Clark which will operate every 15 minutes.

CTA also will provide extra buses and later service along the #152 Addison route. #152 buses will operate approximately every five minutes for one hour following the end of concerts.

Beginning at 4:05 p.m. #154 Wrigley Field Express service will operate from the DeVry University Park and Ride every 10 to 12 minutes. #154 buses will leave Wrigley Field approximately every eight minutes for one hour following the end of the concerts.

CTA's Yellow Line will operate until 12:05 a.m. from Howard to Skokie and longer Red Line trains will operate to Wrigley Field to accommodate the anticipated crowds.

Purple Line Single Track at Davis and Dempster Stations
The southbound Purple Line track will be out of service for maintenance each night from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. starting Sunday, July 8 through Thursday, July 12. All customers will board trains on the northbound (east) side of the track at Davis and Dempster stations.

Red Line Single Track at Jarvis, Morse and Loyola Stations
The southbound Red Line track will be out of service for maintenance each night from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. starting Monday, July 9 through Thursday, July 12. Southbound customers who want to board at Jarvis, Morse or Loyola should board a northbound train to Howard, then board a southbound Red Line train for their trips.
