Events Affecting CTA Service
Beginning Weekend of July 13- July 15Temporary Blue Line Subway Closure This Weekend
This weekend CTA will temporarily suspend service on the O'Hare branch of the Blue Line between Western/Milwaukee and Clark/Lake on Friday, July 13 from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. Monday, July 16. Bus shuttles will operate as a substitute for rail service making stops at Western, Damen, Division, Chicago, Grand and Clark/Lake. CTA customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
The work is part of an aggressive new plan to eliminate slow zones. CTA is replacing deteriorated wooden rail ties with concrete rail ties which will eliminate slow zones along the tracks between Grand and Division and restore normal train speed to 55 mph.
Weeknights through August 31, single tracks will typically be in effect from Grand to Division from 9 p.m. each night until 5 a.m. the following morning, Monday night through Friday morning.
Northbound and southbound customers boarding at Grand, Chicago and Division will board trains on the same side of the platform during late night single track work. CTA customers are advised to allow extra travel time. (See separate release.)
Brown Line Shuttle Train to Operate From Kimball to Western This Weekend
Construction work to repair grade crossings and street approaches at Kedzie and Sacramento will require Brown Line trains to operate on a single track this weekend between Western and Kimball stations. From 3 a.m. Saturday, July 14 until 3 a.m. Monday, July 16 CTA will operate shuttle train service in both directions between Western and Kimball Brown Line stations.
Regular Brown Line service will operate between the Western station and the Loop in both directions. Southbound customers riding Brown Line shuttle trains must board a regular service Brown Line train at Western to continue southbound. Northbound customers riding regular Brown Line service must board a shuttle train at Western to continue northbound. The Kedzie Avenue entrance to Kedzie station and the Sacramento Avenue auxiliary entrance to Francisco station will also be unavailable to customers.
Customers are asked to allow extra travel time. Normal Brown Line service will resume Monday, July 16 at 4 a.m.
Northbound Red Line Service Temporarily Suspended From Wilson to Granville Late Friday Night through Sunday Afternoon
Northbound Red Line trains will temporarily operate on northbound Purple Line tracks from Wilson to Granville beginning 10 p.m. Friday, July 13 to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 15. Northbound Red Line trains will be unable to stop at the Wilson, Lawrence, Argyle, Berwyn, Bryn Mawr, Thorndale and Granville stations due to track maintenance work.
Northbound customers who want to exit at Wilson, Lawrence, Argyle, Berwyn, Bryn Mawr, Thorndale and Granville should transfer to a southbound train at Loyola and ride back to these stations. Northbound customers who want to board at these stations should board a southbound train, exit at Sheridan and transfer to a northbound train.
State Street Bus Stop Relocation The southbound CTA bus stop currently located on State and Washington in front of the Hotel Burnham is being relocated to State and Randolph in front of Borders and will be in service Monday, July 16.
Washington Street Closed Between Dearborn and State Friday Evening to Monday Morning
Washington Street will be closed for one block between Dearborn and State streets from 7 p.m. Friday, July 13 until 6 a.m. Monday, July 16 due to construction work at Block 37. CTA buses have been rerouted from Washington since May 22 for riders? convenience.
Washington Street Closed From Ashland to Ogden Friday Evening Through Saturday
Washington Street will be closed from Ashland to Ogden from 5 p.m. Friday, July 13 until midnight, Saturday, July 14. #19 United Center Express buses and #X20 Madison Express buses will be rerouted via Randolph to Ogden, Madison, Paulina, to Washington then resume the regular route.
Austin Closed for Church Carnival Over Weekend
Austin is closed at 61st Street for the Saint Symphorosa Church Carnival until 6 a.m. Sunday, July 15. Westbound #55 A 55th/Austin buses are operating via Austin, 61st, Meade to 63rd, then back to Meade to resume the regular route. Eastbound buses are operating via Austin, 63rd, Mayfield, 61st, then back to Austin to resume the regular route.
Howard Street Closed Weeknights Next Week
Howard Street at the Red Line will be closed from 7:30 p.m. until 5 a.m. weeknights Monday, July 16 through Thursday, July 19. #201 Central Ridge buses will be rerouted from Ashland to Howard, Rogers, Sheridan, Howard,Rogers to Howard Terminal, then travel north through the terminal to Howard and resume the regular route.
Michigan Avenue Bridge Closed Late Thursday Night
The Michigan Avenue bridge will be closed for maintenance from 10 p.m. Thursday, July 19 until 5 a.m. Friday, July 20.
#3 King Drive, #146 Marine/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses will operate northbound via Michigan to Wacker, State, Ohio, then back to Michigan to resume the regular route. Southbound #3 King Drive buses will operate via Michigan to Ontario, State to Wacker, then back to Michigan to resume the regular route.
#N66 Chicago buses will operate eastbound via Chicago, Fairbanks, Columbus to South Water, then back to Michigan to resume the regular route. Westbound #N66 buses will operate via Michigan to South Water, Columbus to Fairbanks, then back to Michigan to resume the regular route.
Adams Street Bridge Closed Late Thursday Night
The Adams Street bridge will be closed for maintenance from 11 p.m. Thursday, July 19 until 5 a.m. Friday, July 20.
#7 Harrison, #126 Jackson and #156 LaSalle buses will operate westbound via Adams to Wacker, Van Buren to Canal, then back to Adams to resume the regular route.
#151 Sheridan buses will operate westbound via Adams to Wacker, Van Buren, north on Canal to Jackson to resume the regular route.
