Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service

All Trains to Operate on the Same Tracks between the Racine and LaSalle Stations This Weekend

All Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the westbound (to Forest Park) tracks between the Racine and LaSalle stations from 10 p.m. Friday, September 24 until 6 a.m. the following morning, due to sewer work.
 
Blue Line customers at the UIC-Halsted, Clinton and LaSalle stations traveling eastbound (to O’Hare) must board and exit trains from the westbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Track Maintenance Work Routes All Trains to the Eastbound Tracks at Western

From 10 p.m. Sunday, September 26 until 4 a.m. the following morning, all Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the eastbound (to O’Hare) tracks between the Western and Kedzie stations due to track maintenance work.  
 
Blue Line customers at the Western station traveling westbound (to Forest Park) must board and exit trains from the eastbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Two-Phase Single Track Operations in Effect along the Forest Park Branch Next Week

A two-phase single track operation will be in effect for all late night Blue Line trains operating between the Western and Pulaski stations beginning Monday night, September 27, due to track maintenance.
 
Phase I – at Western
From 10 p.m. Monday, September 27 until midnight, Blue Line customers at the Western station traveling westbound (to Forest Park) must board and exit trains from the eastbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Phase II – at Western and Kedzie-Homan
From 12:01 a.m. until 4 a.m. on Tuesday, Blue Line customers at the Western and Kedzie-Homan stations traveling westbound (to Forest Park) must board and exit trains from the eastbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Tuesday Night: Two-Phase Single Track Operations in Effect at Western and Kedzie-Homan

A two-phase single track operation will be in effect for late night Blue Line trains operating between the Pulaski and Western stations beginning Tuesday night, September 28, due to track maintenance.
 
Phase I – at Western
From 10 p.m. Tuesday, September 28 until midnight, Blue Line customers at the Western station traveling eastbound (to O’Hare) must board and exit trains from the westbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Phase II – at Kedzie-Homan and Western
From 12:01 a.m. until 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Blue Line customers at the Kedzie-Homan and Western stations traveling eastbound (to O’Hare) must board and exit trains from the westbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Wednesday Night: Two-Phase Single Track Operations in Effect between Kedzie-Homan and Racine

Track maintenance continues along the Forest Park branch resulting in a two-phase single track operation that will affect all Blue Line trains operating between the Kedzie-Homan and Racine stations beginning Wednesday night, September 29.
 
Phase I – at Western
From 10 p.m. Wednesday, September 29 until midnight, Blue Line customers at the Western station traveling eastbound (to O’Hare) must board and exit trains from the westbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Phase II – at Western, Illinois Medical District and Racine
From 12:01 a.m. until 4 a.m. on Thursday, Blue Line customers at the Western, Illinois Medical District and Racine stations traveling eastbound (to O’Hare) must board and exit trains from the westbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Thursday Night: Two-Phase Single Track Operations in Effect between Racine and Kedzie-Homan

Phase II – at Racine, Illinois Medical District and Western
From 12:01 a.m. until 4 a.m. on Friday, Blue Line customers at the Racine, Illinois Medical District and Western stations traveling westbound (to Forest Park) must board and exit trains from the eastbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Brown Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Trains to Share Same Tracks between Western and Addison on Sunday

All Brown Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Kimball) tracks between the Western and Addison stations from 5 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday, September 26, due to repair work on a building adjacent to the elevated structure.
 
Customers at the Damen, Montrose and Irving Park stations traveling southbound (to the Loop) must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Kimball) platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Two-Phase Single Track Operations in Effect at the 63rd Station Friday Night

A two-phase single track operation will be in effect for all late night Red Line trains at the 63rd Street station beginning Friday night, September 24, due to IDOT bridge inspections.
 
Phase I – Affecting Southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan)
From 11 p.m. Friday, September 24 until 3 a.m. the following morning, all Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Howard) tracks at the 63rd Street station. During this time, customers traveling southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform.
 
Phase II – Affecting Northbound (to Howard)
From 3 a.m. until 6 a.m. on Saturday, all Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) tracks at the 63rd Street station. During this time, customers traveling northbound (to Howard) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.  CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Southbound Red Line Trains Temporarily Unable to Stop at Argyle and Lawrence

This weekend, a reroute will be in effect for southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) Red Line trains operating between the Berwyn and Addison stations from 11 p.m. Friday, September 24 until 5 p.m. Sunday, September 26, due to track renewal work.
 
During this time, southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) Red Line trains will be rerouted to operate on the southbound Purple Line Express tracks and will be unable to make stops at the Argyle and Lawrence stations.
 
Red Line customers traveling southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) who want to exit at Argyle or Lawrence should travel to Wilson and board a northbound (to Howard) train to ride back to either the Argyle or Lawrence station. Customers at Argyle and Lawrence who want to travel south should board a northbound (to Howard) train to Berwyn to access a southbound train.
 
Wilson Boarding Changes – Southbound Only
Customers at the Wilson station traveling southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) must board and exit trains from the outer (west auxiliary) platform instead of the inner platform.
 
Northbound (to Howard) Red Line trains are unaffected at the Wilson station.
 
Sheridan Boarding Changes – Southbound Only
Customers at the Sheridan station traveling southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) must board and exit trains from the outer platform instead of the inner platform.
 
Northbound (to Howard) Red Line trains are unaffected at the Sheridan station.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

All Trains to Operate on the Northbound Tracks between Clark/Division and Grand Saturday Night

All Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Howard) tracks between the Clark/Division and Grand stations from 11 p.m. Saturday, September 25 until 5 a.m. the following morning, due to the installation of a new escalator at the Grand station.
 
Customers at the Clark/Division station traveling southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) side of the platform.
 
Customers at the Chicago and Grand stations traveling southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Howard) platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Late Night Trains to Operate on the Same Tracks at the 47th Street Station Next Week

All late night Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) tracks at the 47th Street station from 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday, September 27 through Friday morning, October 1, as track maintenance work continues.
 
Red Line customers at the 47th Street station traveling northbound (to Howard) must board and exit trains from the southbound (to 95th/Dan Ryan) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Service for Upcoming Events

#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Events

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express for those attending the following events at the United Center this weekend and next week:
 
  • Friday, September 24 at 8 p.m. – Roger Waters: The Wall Live concert
  • Saturday, September 25 at 7 p.m. – Detroit Redwings versus Blackhawks*
  • Monday, September 27 at 7:30 p.m. – How Sweet the Sound concert
 
*(pre-season game)
 
Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event until the event begins. When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
#19 buses no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
 
After each game, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

UPDATE: Construction Temporarily Detours #14 Jeffery Express Buses in the Loop

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, October 1, #14 Jeffery Express buses are being detoured due to the closure of Monroe Street between Franklin and State for nearby construction.
 
Southbound #14 buses are traveling over the regular route along Monroe to Franklin then operating via Franklin, Washington, State to Monroe and resuming the regular route. Northbound #14 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
Bus Stop Changes
  • Monroe/Franklin: the southbound near side stop has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop on Franklin at Madison.
  • Monroe/LaSalle: the southbound near side stop has been temporarily removed from service.
  • Monroe/Dearborn – State: the southbound mid-block stop has been temporarily removed from service.
 

Westbound #96 Lunt Buses Temporarily Rerouted

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, October 1, westbound #96 Lunt buses are being temporarily rerouted due to emergency street repair work on Lunt Avenue between Sheridan and Glenwood.
 
Westbound #96 buses are operating over the regular route along Sheridan past Lunt to Greenleaf then are operating via Greenleaf, Ashland to Lunt and then resuming the regular route. Eastbound #96 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Temporary Removal of Bus Stops Near the Wilson Red Line Station

Currently in effect until 5 a.m. Friday, October 22, the eastbound far side bus stop at Wilson/Racine has been temporarily removed from service due to a sidewalk replacement project. The temporary removal of this bus stop will affect customers who board and alight eastbound #78 Montrose and southbound #145 Wilson/Michigan Express and #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express buses.  
 

Nine Bus Routes Detoured for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5K Run

From 4 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, September 25, nine CTA bus routes will be detoured due to the closure of Balbo Drive between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive, and Columbus will be closed between Congress Parkway and Roosevelt for the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5K Run/Walk.
 
Buses along the following nine routes will be detoured to adjacent streets:  #3 King Drive, #4 Cottage Grove, #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #14 Jeffery Express, #18 16th/18th, #126 Jackson, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan and #147 Outer Drive Express.
 
The event will step off at 8:30 a.m. from Columbus/Balbo, proceed south to Roosevelt then travel via Roosevelt, Michigan, Balbo, Columbus, Randolph, Columbus to the finish line on Balbo between Columbus and Lake Shore Drive.
 

Park Ridge Charity Classic 5K Run Detours #68 Northwest Highway Buses on Saturday

From 7:30 a.m. until 9 a.m. Saturday, September 25, #68 Northwest Highway buses will be detoured due to the closure of Summit Avenue between Washington and Touhy for the Park Ridge Charity Classic 5K Run.
 
Northbound #68 buses will travel over the regular route along Northwest Highway past Washington to Summit then will operate via Summit to Touhy before beginning southbound service. Southbound #68 buses will depart from Touhy/Summit and continue east on Touhy to Northwest Highway and then resume the regular route.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

Street Repair Work Detours Eastbound #74 Fullerton Buses

Currently in effect until further notice, #74 Fullerton buses are being detoured due to the closure of Webster Avenue between Halsted and Lincoln due to street repair work.
 
Eastbound #74 buses are operating over the regular route along Halsted to Belden then are traveling via Belden to Lincoln and resuming the regular route. Westbound #74 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of #75 74th/75th Bus Stop at 75th Street/Jeffery

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday, September 30, the eastbound near side stop at 75th Street/Jeffery served by #75 74th/75th buses has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Morse/Glenwood

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, October 1, the far side bus stop at Morse/Glenwood served by eastbound #96 Lunt and #155 Devon buses has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop at Morse/Lakewood, due to sidewalk construction.
 

Temporary Changes to Bus Stops Served by 10 Routes

Currently in effect until 5 a.m. Saturday, October 2, the following bus stop changes are in effect due to the installation of new concrete bus pads along Michigan Avenue:
 
  • Michigan/Ontario: the northbound near side stop has been removed from service.
  • Michigan/Erie: a new northbound near side stop has been added to service.
  • Michigan/Huron: the northbound near side stop has been removed from service.
 
These bus stops are served by #3 King Drive, #26 South Shore Express, #125 Water Tower Express, #143 Stockton/Michigan Express, #144 Marine/Michigan Express, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express, #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
 

Temporary Reroute in Effect for #78 Montrose Buses Due to Work at Clark/Wilson

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Friday, October 29, #78 Montrose buses are temporarily unable to make turns at the intersection of Clark/Wilson due to a streetscape project.
 
Eastbound #78 Montrose buses are operating over the regular route along Montrose to Ashland then are traveling via Ashland, Wilson past Clark and then resuming the regular route east on Wilson. Westbound #78 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 30, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market, resulting in a detour of the #36 Broadway and #70 Division bus routes.
 
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

#111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses Undergo Reroutes Due to Bridge Repair Work

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Sunday, October 31, the 111th Street Bridge over Interstate 57 (I-57) is closed to all traffic due to bridge and deck replacement work, resulting in a detour of the #111 Pullman/111th/115th bus route.
 
Southbound #111 buses are operating over the regular route along 111th Street to Marshfield then traveling via Marshfield, 112th Place, Hamlet to 111th Street and then resuming the regular route east on 111th Street.
 
Northbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 111th Street to Throop then operating via Throop, 107th Street, Vincennes and then resuming the regular route south on Vincennes past 111th Street.
 

Change to Bus Stop along #156 LaSalle Bus Route

A traffic lane reduction is in effect at LaSalle/Kinzie due to a Commonwealth Edison project. As a result, the northbound far side stop served by #156 LaSalle buses has been temporarily removed from service until Friday, November 12.
 

#94 South California Buses Detoured Due to a Viaduct Construction Project

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, December 31, #94 South California buses are being detoured due to the temporary closure of California Avenue between Taylor and Fillmore for construction work on a nearby viaduct.
 
Northbound #94 buses are traveling over the regular route along California to Roosevelt then are operating via Roosevelt, Sacramento, Harrison to California and resuming the regular route. Southbound #94 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Temporary Changes in Service for #21 Cermak and #62 Archer Buses Serving the Cermak-Chinatown Station

Currently in effect, customers at the Cermak-Chinatown Red Line station must use the new entrance located on Archer Avenue approximately one block north of Cermak. This entrance will serve as the primary access point for customers while the main entrance to the station on the north side of Cermak is reconstructed and made accessible. 
 
As a result of these changes, and to accommodate customers transferring between bus and rail services, the following changes have been made to buses serving the station:
 
#21 Cermak
Eastbound #21 Cermak buses are traveling over the regular route along Cermak to Wentworth then operating via Wentworth, Archer, Clark to Cermak and resuming the regular route. Westbound #21 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
  • Cermak/Wentworth: the near side stop at Cermak/Wentworth served by eastbound #21 buses has been temporarily removed from service.
  • Wentworth/Cermak: new temporary stops have been added at Wentworth/Cermak for eastbound and westbound #21 buses. Eastbound customers must board and exit buses from the far side stop; westbound customers must board and exit buses from the near side stop.
  • Cermak/Red Line Station: the mid-block stop near the Cermak Road entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station has been temporarily removed from service.
  • Archer/Red Line Station: eastbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.
  • Wentworth/Archer: westbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary far side stop at Wentworth/Archer.
 
#62 Archer
  • Archer/Wentworth: the northbound near side stop at Archer/Wentworth served by #62 buses has been removed from service.
  • Archer/Red Line Station: northbound #62 buses are serving the new mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.
 

#56 Milwaukee Bus Stop at Milwaukee/Diversey Temporarily Relocated

Until further notice, the southbound near side bus stop at Milwaukee/Diversey served by #56 Milwaukee buses has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Temporary Changes to Bus Stops near Sheridan/Foster

Currently in effect until further notice, the northbound near side stop at Sheridan/Foster has been temporarily removed from service due to the demolition and reconstruction of a nearby building. This stop is served by #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
 

Temporary Removal of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Jackson/Sangamon

Currently in effect until Friday, September 30, 2011, the eastbound far side stop at Jackson/Sangamon served by #126 Jackson buses has been temporarily removed from service due to nearby construction. Customers may board and exit eastbound #126 buses at either Jackson/Morgan or Jackson/Peoria.
 

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Lower Wacker to the exit ramp for Upper Wacker and then traveling via Upper Wacker to Adams and resuming the regular route west on Adams.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
