Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of October 13 – 15

Brown Line Capacity Expansion Project:
CTA is working to expand capacity on the Brown Line. When the work is completed, customers will benefit from longer trains during rush hour and accessible, modern stations and platforms.

Throughout the Brown Line construction project, slow zones and single track operation are periodically necessary near construction activity so, as a general rule, rail customers should allow extra travel time.

Single Track in Effect on Brown Line Saturday and Sunday
A single track will be in effect between the Western and Kedzie stations from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday, October 14 and again in the same location, during the same hours Sunday, October 15. North and southbound trains will share the same track at Rockwell station. Northbound customers will board northbound trains on the same side of the platform (south) as southbound customers at the Rockwell station.

Red Line - Dan Ryan Branch Rehabilitation:
CTA is working to replace track, power and signal systems and upgrade stations along the branch. When the work is completed, customers will experience more reliable service and modern station amenities.

Late Night Single Track in Effect on Red Line Thursday
A single track will be in effect between 69th and 79th from 11 p.m. Thursday, October 12 until 4 a.m. Friday, October 13. North and southbound customers boarding at the 69th station must board on the west side of the platform.

Single Track in Effect on Red Line Over Weekend
A single track will be in effect between 69th and 87th from 8 p.m. Friday, October 13 until 8 a.m. Saturday, October 14. North and southbound customers boarding at the 69th and 79th stations must board on the west side of the platform.

A single track will be in effect between 69th and 87th from 8 p.m. Saturday, October 14 until noon Sunday, October 15. North and southbound customers boarding at the 69th and 79th stations must board on the east side of the platform.

A single track will be in effect between 87th and 94th from 9 p.m. Sunday, October 15 until 4 a.m. Monday, October 16. North and southbound customers boarding at the 87th station must board on the east side of the platform.

Late Night Single Track in Effect on Red Line Next Week
A single track will be in effect between 69th and 79th from 11 p.m. Monday, October 16 until 4 a.m. Tuesday, October 17 and again in the same location, during the same hours Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, October 17, 18 and 19.

During the Monday and Tuesday single track, north and southbound customers boarding at the 69th station must board on the west side of the platform. During the Wednesday and Thursday single track, north and southbound customers boarding at the 69th station must board on the east side of the platform.

Blue Line Signal Upgrade:
CTA is working to upgrade approximately 20 miles of the existing 40-year-old train control system and power supply equipment from the Forest Park terminal of the Blue Line Forest Park branch through the Dearborn subway to the Jefferson Park station of the Blue Line O'Hare branch.

These systems ensure the safe operation and movement of trains and the appropriate speed and distance between trains as well as help CTA personnel manage rail service in the event of an emergency. The upgraded signal system will result in improved reliability of service for Blue Line customers, and also includes upgrades to the power cables and communication system needed to connect the Red Line State Street subway and Blue Line Dearborn Street subway.

Late Night Single Track in Effect on Blue Line O'Hare Branch Thursday
A single track will be in effect between Armitage and California from 11 p.m. Thursday, October 12 until 4 a.m. Friday, October 13. North and southbound customers boarding at the California station must board on the west side of the platform.

Late Night Single Track in Effect on Blue Line O'Hare Branch Over Weekend
A three-phase single track will be in effect between the Belmont and Montrose stations from 11 p.m. Friday, October 13 to 8 a.m. Saturday, October 14.

From 11 p.m. Friday until 2 a.m. Saturday, the single track will be in effect between the Addison and Montrose stations. North and southbound customers boarding at the Irving Park station must board on the west side of the platform.

From 2 a.m. until 6 a.m. Saturday, the single track will be in effect between the Belmont and Montrose stations. North and southbound customers boarding at the Belmont, Addison and Irving Park stations must board on the west side of the platform.

From 6 a.m. until 8 a.m. Saturday, the single track will be in effect between the Addison and Montrose stations. North and southbound customers boarding at the Irving Park station will board on the west side of the platform.

There is another three-phase single track in the same location from 10 p.m. Saturday, October 14 to 10 a.m. Sunday, October 15.

From 10 p.m. Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday, the single track will be in effect between the Addison and Montrose stations. North and southbound customers boarding at the Irving Park station must board on the west side of the platform.

From 2 a.m. until 6 a.m. Sunday, the single track will be in effect between the Belmont and Montrose stations. North and southbound customers boarding at the Belmont, Addison and Irving Park stations must board on the west side of the platform.

From 6 a.m. until 10 a.m. Sunday, the single track will be in effect between the Addison and Montrose stations. North and southbound customers boarding at the Irving Park station will board on the west side of the platform.

Customers should allow extra travel time.

115th Closes for Sewer Work Monday
Beginning at 9 a.m., Monday, October 16, 115th will close between Michigan and Prairie through November 16. #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses will operate in both directions via 115th, Michigan, 111th, King Drive and 115th, then resume the regular route.

Ewing Closed for Skyway Maintenance Work through October 26
Ewing is closed at 10040 South for maintenance work at the Chicago Skyway Overpass. #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago buses will operate in both directions via Ewing, Indianapolis, Avenue L, 95th and Ewing, then resume the regular route.
