Clark Junction Track and Signal Renewal:
CTA is currently working to upgrade crossover tracks and signals throughout the Clark Junction corridor, the busy location where Brown, Red and Purple Line trains converge just north of Belmont on the City's North Side. The upgrade to the 100-year-old junction will bring new signals and additional connections between tracks to allow trains to cross over to adjacent tracks.
Brown and Red Line Customers Should Allow Extra Travel Time This Weekend
Construction work planned for this weekend will require reroutes of Brown and Red Line trains. This could cause delays in service so customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
1 a.m. Saturday, November 11 to Midnight Sunday, November 12
Brown Line Service
At Fullerton and Belmont, northbound Brown Line trains will operate on the same track as northbound Red Line trains. Customers will board northbound Brown Line trains on the same side of the platform (west) as northbound Red Line customers.
Northbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at the Diversey and Wellington station platforms during these hours. Customers who wish to exit at these stations will need to travel to the Belmont station and transfer to a southbound Brown Line train.
Northbound customers who wish to board at the Diversey and Wellington stations will need to board a southbound Red or Brown Line train to Fullerton where they can transfer to a northbound Brown Line train.
Southbound Brown and Red Line service is not affected.
Midnight Sunday, November 12 through 4 a.m. Monday, November 13
Red Line Service
At Fullerton and Belmont, southbound Red Line trains will operate on the same track as southbound Brown Line trains. Customers will board southbound Red Line trains on the same side of the platform (west) as southbound Brown Line customers.
Northbound Red and Brown Line service is not affected. Normal southbound Red Line service will resume at 4 a.m., Monday, November 13.
Longer Purple Line Trains and More Frequent Service for Northwestern Wildcats Football Saturday
The Northwestern Wildcats host The Ohio State University Buckeyes at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, November 11. Longer Purple Line trains and more frequent service will begin operating at 12:15 p.m. and continue after the game as crowds warrant. Ryan Field is just west of the Purple Line's Central station in Evanston.
Blue Line Signal Upgrade:
CTA is working to upgrade approximately 20 miles of the existing 40-year-old train control system and power supply equipment from the Forest Park terminal of the Blue Line through the Dearborn subway to the Jefferson Park station of the Blue Line O'Hare branch.
These systems ensure the safe operation and movement of trains and the appropriate speed and distance between trains as well as help CTA personnel manage rail service in the event of an emergency.
The upgraded signal system will result in improved reliability of service for Blue Line customers, and also includes upgrades to the power cables and communication system needed to connect the Red Line State Street subway and Blue Line Dearborn Street subway.
Single Track in Effect in Blue Line Dearborn Subway Friday
A single track will be in effect between Grand and LaSalle stations from 9 p.m. Friday, November 10 until 11 a.m. Saturday, November 11. North and southbound customers boarding at the Clark/Lake, Washington, Monroe and Jackson stations must board on the east side of the platform.
Red Line - Dan Ryan Branch Rehabilitation:
CTA is working to replace track, power and signal systems and upgrade stations along the branch. When the work is completed, customers will experience more reliable service and modern station amenities.
Single Track in Effect on Red Line Thursday
A single track will be in effect between 79th and 87th
from 11 p.m. Thursday, November 9 until 4 a.m. Friday, November 10. North and southbound customers boarding at the 79th station must board on the west side of the platform.
Single Track in Effect on Red Line Over Weekend
A single track will be in effect between 23rd and 45th from
8 p.m. Friday, November 10 until 8 a.m. Saturday, November 11 and again in the same location from 8 p.m.Saturday,
November 11 until noon Sunday, November 12. North and southbound customers boarding at the Sox-35th station must board on the east side of the platform.
Single Track in Effect on Red Line Sunday
A two-phase single track will be in effect between 47th and 63rd from 9 p.m. Sunday, November 12 until 4 a.m. Monday, November 13.
From 9 p.m. Sunday until 1 a.m. Monday, the single track will be in effect between the Garfield station and 63rd. North and southbound customers boarding at the Garfield station must board on the west side of the platform.
From 1 a.m. until 4 a.m. Monday, the single track will be in effect between the 47th and 63rd stations. North and southbound customers boarding at the 47th and Garfield stations must board on the west side of the platform.
Late Night Single Track in Effect on Red Line Next Week
A single track will be in effect between 87th and 94th from
11 p.m. Monday, November 13 until 4 a.m. Tuesday, November 14 and again in the same location, during the same hours Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights, November 14, November 15 and November 16.
During the Monday and Tuesday single track, north and southbound customers boarding at the 87th station must board on the west side of the platform. During the Wednesday and Thursday single track, north and southbound customers boarding at the 87th station must board on the east side of the platform.
Harbor Point Bus Turnaround Closed Through November 11
The Harbor Point bus turnaround is closed at Randolph through Saturday, November 11. Eastbound #60 Blue Island/26th buses that normally enter the east end terminal at Harbor Point will operate via Randolph, Field and Columbus. Customers who normally board or exit the #60 at Randolph and Harbor Point must board or exit near 300 E. Randolph, just north of Columbus.
