Blue Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Boarding Changes at Addison and Belmont this Weekend

All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to Forest Park) tracks at the Addison and Belmont stations during the following times this weekend due to crews performing work associated with the station renewal project:
 
  • 10 p.m. Friday, May 4 until 5 a.m. the following morning
  • 10 p.m. Saturday, May 5 until 6 a.m. the following morning
  • 10 p.m. Sunday, May 6 until 4 a.m. the following morning
 
During these times, Blue Line customers at the Addison and Belmont stations must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 

Late Night Boarding Changes Next Week Due to Sewer Cleaning

All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to O’Hare) tracks between the Grand and LaSalle stations from 10 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning on Monday night, May 7 and then again on Tuesday night, May 8, due to subway sewer cleaning work.
 
During these times, southbound (to Forest Park) customers at the Clark/Lake, Washington, Monroe and Jackson stations must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 
Wednesday and Thursday Nights – at LaSalle, Clinton and UIC-Halsted
From 10 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning on Wednesday night, May 9 and then again on Thursday night, May 10, late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to O’Hare) tracks between the LaSalle and Racine stations as sewer cleaning continues.
 
Southbound (to Forest Park) customers at the LaSalle, Clinton and UIC-Halsted stations must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 

Brown Line – Events Affecting Service

Northbound (to Kimball) Trains to Bypass the Diversey Station this Weekend

Northbound (to Kimball) Brown Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Howard) Red Line tracks between the Armitage and Wellington stations from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on both Saturday, May 5 and Sunday, May 6, due to maintenance work at the Fullerton station.
 
During these times, northbound (to Kimball) Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at the Diversey station. Southbound (to the Loop) Brown Line trains are not affected and will continue to serve the station.
 
Brown Line customers at the Diversey station who wish to travel northbound (to Kimball) will need to take a southbound (to the Loop) train to Fullerton and then transfer to a northbound (to Kimball) train.
 
Northbound (to Kimball) Brown Line customers who wish to exit at Diversey will need to travel to Wellington and then transfer to a southbound (to the Loop) train.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 

Daytime Closure of the Northbound Auxiliary Entrance/Exit at Armitage Next Week

The auxiliary entrance/exit to the northbound (to Kimball) Armitage Brown Line station will be temporarily closed from 10:45 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day next week beginning Monday, May 7 through Friday, May 11, while crews replace platform decking.
 
During these times, northbound (to Kimball) customers will be directed to access the Armitage station using the main entrance located along Armitage Avenue.
 

Special Event Service Details

#19 United Center Express Service to the United Center

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express for those attending Game #5 of the 2012 NBA playoffs between the Bulls and Philadelphia 76ers at the United Center on Tuesday, May 8. Tip-off is at 8:30 p.m.  
 
Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event. After each event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3 and will depart approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Reroute of #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 3 p.m. Friday, May 25, #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago buses are being detoured due to the closure of the 92nd Street (Ewing) Bridge over the Calumet River for bridge repair work. 
 
Southbound #26 and #30 buses are operating over their regular routes along 91st Street to Mackinaw then are traveling via Mackinaw, Harbor, South Chicago, 95th Street to Ewing and then resuming their regular routes. Northbound #26 and #30 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Butterfly Ball Temporarily Detours Three Routes this Weekend

Currently in effect until 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, the terminal driveway at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum will be closed to all traffic for the annual Butterfly Ball event. As a result of this temporary closure, #76 Diversey, and #151 Sheridan and #156 LaSalle shortliner buses only operating to the Nature Museum will be detoured.
 
Eastbound #76 buses will operate over the regular route along Diversey to Sheridan then will travel via Cannon Drive, Stockton, Fullerton to Cannon (just across the street from the Nature Museum) before beginning westbound service. Westbound #76 buses will continue north on Cannon over the regular route.
 
Northbound #151 and #156 shortliner buses only will operate over their regular routes to Cannon Drive and will continue northwest on Cannon (not entering the driveway) to Stockton before beginning southbound service. From Cannon/Stockton, southbound #151 and #156 buses will travel south on Stockton over their regular routes.
 

#60 Blue Island/26th Buses Detoured for Cinco de Mayo Event this Weekend

Currently in effect until approximately 3 a.m. Monday, May 7, #60 Blue Island/26th buses are being detoured due to the closure of 26th Street between Kostner and Ogden for the Little Village Chamber of Commerce Cinco de Mayo event.
 
Westbound #60 buses are traveling over the regular route along 26th Street to Kostner then operating via Kostner, Ogden, Cicero Connector, Cicero and into the west terminal before beginning eastbound service. From the west terminal, eastbound #60 buses are traveling via Cicero to the Ogden Connector then operating via the Ogden Connector, Ogden, Kostner to 26th Street and resuming the regular route.
 

Five Routes Detoured for Polish Constitution Day Parade in Grant Park

From 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 5, #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #14 Jeffery Express, #126 Jackson and #147 Outer Drive Express buses will be detoured due to closure of Congress Plaza and Columbus Drive between Roosevelt and Monroe for the Polish Constitution Day Parade.
 
Participants will assemble on Columbus between Roosevelt and Balbo beginning at 7 a.m. The parade will step off at 11:30 a.m. and proceed north from Columbus/Balbo to Monroe.
 
Northbound #6, #10 and #14 buses will travel over their regular routes along Columbus to Roosevelt then will operate via Roosevelt to Michigan and then resume their regular routes. Southbound #6, #10 and #14 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Eastbound #126 buses will operate over the regular route along Michigan to Harrison then will travel via Harrison to Wabash before beginning westbound service. From Harrison/Wabash westbound #126 buses will operate via Wabash, Balbo, Michigan to Harrison and then resume the regular route.
 
Southbound #147 buses will travel over the regular route along Michigan to Harrison then will operate via Harrison to Wabash before turning to begin northbound service. Northbound #147 buses will depart from Harrison/Wabash and travel via Harrison to State and resume the regular route north of Congress.
 

St. Jude Police Memorial March Detours #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express Buses

From 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. Sunday, May 6, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses will be detoured due to closure of Museum Campus Drive and Solidarity Drive for the annual St. Jude Police Memorial March.
 
During this time, southbound #146 buses will be unable to make stops past McFetridge/Solidarity Drive. Buses instead will operate over the regular route along Columbus, east on McFetridge to the south side of the Field Museum. Northbound #146 buses will operate west on McFetridge over the regular route.
 

Annual Cinco de Mayo Parade Detours Four Bus Routes on Sunday

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 6, #21 Cermak, #49 Western, #50 Damen and #94 South California buses will be detoured due to the closure of Cermak Road between Ashland and Kedzie for the annual Cinco de Mayo parade.
 
Parade participants will begin assembling at Cermak/Damen at 9 a.m. The parade will step off at noon and proceed west on Cermak to Marshall then travel via Marshall, 24th Street to California and disband.
 
Eastbound #21 buses will operate over the regular route along Cermak to Kedzie then will travel via Kedzie, 26th Street/Blue Island to Cermak and then resume the regular route. Westbound #21 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #49 buses will travel over the regular route along Western to 26th Street then will operate via 26th Street, Kedzie, Ogden to Western and then resume the regular route. Southbound #49 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #50 buses will operate over the regular route along Damen to Blue Island then will travel via Blue Island, Ashland, 18th Street to Damen and then resume the regular route. Southbound #50 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #94 buses will travel over the regular route along California to 26th Street then will operate via 26th Street, Kedzie, Ogden to California and then resume the regular route. Southbound #94 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Ongoing Bus Service Changes 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Adams/Wabash

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Friday, May 11, the westbound nearside stop at Adams/Wabash has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby sidewalk construction work. This stop is served by #1 Indiana/Hyde Park, #7 Harrison, #X28 Stony Island Express, #126 Jackson and #129 West Loop/South Loop buses.
 

Bridge Repair Work Temporarily Detours #79 79th Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, May 11, #79 79th buses are being detoured due to the closure of the westbound lanes of 79th Street between Greenwood and Woodlawn avenues for bridge repair work.
 
Westbound #79 buses are traveling over the regular route along 79th Street to Stony Island then are operating via Stony Island, 83rd Street, Cottage Grove to 79th Street and then resuming the regular route. Eastbound #79 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect: 
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 

Temporary Removal of #29 State Bus Stop at State/Pershing

Currently in effect until Friday, June 1, the southbound far side stop at State/Pershing has been removed from service due to nearby construction work. Customers are advised to board southbound #29 buses one block south at 40th Street.
 

Bus Stop at Archer/Cicero Temporarily Removed from Service

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, June 4, the southbound far side bus stop at Archer/Cicero will be temporarily removed from service due to the demolition of a nearby building. This stop is currently served by #62 Archer and #62H Archer/Harlem buses.
 
During this time, customers can board southbound #62 buses at the existing near side stop at Archer/Cicero. Southbound #62H buses will serve the existing stop located at Archer/Lamon.
 

Wacker Drive Stage III Work Affecting 18 Downtown CTA Bus Routes

Currently in effect, 18 CTA bus routes that operate in the downtown area near Adams and Monroe streets at Wacker Drive are operating under temporary service changes, due to work associated with Stage III of the Wacker Drive construction project.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time along these routes:

With the re-opening of Madison Street at Wacker Drive, #19 United Center Express, #20 Madison, #56 Milwaukee and #122 Illinois Center/Ogilvie Express buses have returned to their original routing.

Eastbound #64 Foster/Canfield Buses Detoured for Viaduct Reconstruction Work

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, August 17, eastbound #64 Foster/Canfield buses are being detoured due to the closure of Higgins/Oriole for the reconstruction of the nearby viaduct over the Kennedy Expressway.
 
Eastbound #64 buses are traveling over the regular route along Canfield to Seminole then are operating via Seminole to Higgins and then resuming the regular route. Westbound #64 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Bus Stop Changes Due to Kedzie Bridge Reconstruction Work

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, October 1, the following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by #52A South Kedzie, #67 67th/69th/71st and #94 South California due to reconstruction work on the Kedzie Avenue Bridge between Marquette and 71st Street:
 
#52A South Kedzie
  • Kedzie/Marquette: the northbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a westbound near side stop on Marquette at Kedzie.
  • Kedzie/71st Street: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily removed from service.
 
#67 67th/69th/71st
  • 71st Street/Kedzie: the westbound near side stop has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
 
#94 South California
  • 71st Street/Kedzie: the westbound stop has been temporarily removed from service.
 

New Routing for #24 Wentworth Buses Traveling to 87th/Racine Only

Currently in effect until further notice, the routing of #24 Wentworth buses traveling to 87th Street/Racine only has been changed on a trial basis to serve the new businesses along Holland Road, in response to customer feedback.
 
As a result, southbound and northbound #24 buses (to 87th Street/Racine) are no longer operating on Vincennes between 83rd and 87th streets. Instead, southbound buses are traveling over the regular route along Vincennes to 83rd Street, then operating via 83rd Street, Princeton/Holland, 87th Street to Vincennes and continuing west on 87th Street over the regular route. Northbound buses will travel the reverse.
 

Weekdays Only: Temporary Change in Routing for Northbound #147 Buses

Currently in effect until further notice, from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. on weekdays only northbound #147 Outer Drive Express buses will undergo a temporary change in routing due to heavy traffic congestion on Congress between Michigan and State.
 
From 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. on weekdays only, northbound #147 buses will travel over the regular route along Congress to Michigan then will operate via Michigan, Van Buren to State and then resume the regular route.
 
During all other hours of operation, northbound #147 buses will operate over the regular route via Congress to State.
 
Southbound #147 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of #72 North Avenue Bus Stop

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2013, the westbound near side stop at North Avenue/Washtenaw has been relocated to a far side stop. This stop is served by #72 North Avenue buses.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Lake Park/53rd Street

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Lake Park/53rd Street has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction work. This stop is served by #6 Jackson Park Express, #X28 Stony Island Express and #171 U of C/Hyde Park buses.
 

Relocation of #36 Broadway Bus Stop Due to Nearby Construction

Currently in effect until Friday, July 12, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Broadway/Elmdale served by #36 Broadway buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

Removal of Bus Stop Change Affects Five Routes

Currently in effect until Thursday, August 1, 2013, the mid-block bus stop located at 5800 South Stony Island has been temporarily removed due to construction. This stop is served by the #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #15 Jeffery Local, #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
