Blue Line – Slow Zone Work
Blue Line Service between Clark/Lake and Western/Milwaukee Temporarily Suspended this Weekend
CTA will suspend rail service in the Blue Line Dearborn subway from Clark/Lake to Western/Milwaukee starting at 10 p.m. Friday, May 15 until 4 a.m. Monday, May 18 due to track replacement work.
Bus shuttles will operate as a substitute for rail service making stops at Western/Milwaukee, Damen, Division, Chicago, Grand and Clark/Lake. Both the Western/Milwaukee and Clark/Lake stations are accessible to customers with disabilities.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
Red Line – Slow Zone Work
Daytime Reroute of Red Line Trains at Sheridan
A daytime reroute will be in effect for Red Line trains operating in both directions at the Sheridan station from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, May 16, while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
During this time, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
Next Week
From 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, May 19 through Friday,May 22, a daytime reroute will be in effect for Red Line trains operating in both directions at the Sheridan station while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
During these times, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Late Night Single Track in Effect for Forest Park Blue Line Trains Next Week
Due to signal upgrade work, trains operating along portions of the Forest Park branch of the Blue Line will undergo a late night single track four nights next week.
Monday – Harlem to Forest Park
From 9 p.m. Monday, May 18 until 4 a.m. the following morning, westbound Blue Line trains will undergo a single track between the Harlem and Forest Park stations.
Westbound Blue Line customers at the Harlem station must board and exit trains from the eastbound side of the platform.
Tuesday – Cicero to Austin
Westbound Blue Line trains will undergo a late night single track between the Cicero and Austin stations from 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 19 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
Westbound Blue Line customers at the Austin station must board and exit trains from the eastbound side of the platform.
Wednesday – Austin to Cicero
A late night single track will be in effect for eastbound Blue Line trains between the Austin and Cicero stations from 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 20 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
Eastbound Blue Line customers at the Austin station must board and exit trains from the westbound side of the platform.
Thursday – Pulaski to Cicero
From 9 p.m. Thursday, May 21 until 4 a.m. the following morning, westbound Blue Line trains will undergo a single track between the Pulaski and Cicero stations.
Westbound Blue Line customers at the Pulaski and Cicero stations must board and exit trains from the eastbound side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service
Single Track in Effect for Northbound Red Line Trains on the Dan Ryan Branch
Due to track maintenance work, a late night single track will be in effect for northbound Red Line trains between the 79th Street and 69th Street stations from 11 p.m. Sunday, May 17 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
Northbound Red Line customers at the 69th Street station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Two-Phase Single Track in Effect for Red Line Trains on Monday Night
While track maintenance work continues along the Red Line, a two-phase late night single track will be in effect for northbound trains between the 79th Street and 63rd Street stations from 11 p.m. Monday, May 18 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
Phase I – 79th Street to 69th Street
From 11 p.m. Monday, May 18 until 1 a.m. the following morning, northbound Red Line customers at the 69th Street station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
Phase II – 79th Street to 63rd Street
From 1 a.m. until 4 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, northbound Red Line customers at the 69th Street and 63rd Street stations must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
Single Track in Effect for Northbound Red Line Trains between Sox-35th and Roosevelt Next Week
Northbound Red Line trains will undergo a late night single track between the Sox-35th and Roosevelt stations from 1 a.m. until 4 a.m. Friday, May 22, due to track maintenance.
Northbound Red Line customers at the Cermak-Chinatown station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
New/Updated Changes in Bus Service
UPDATE: Reroute for #18 16th/18th Buses Continues Until Monday, May 18
Due to water main construction, 16th Street will continue to be closed between California and Washtenaw from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily until Monday, May 18.
Eastbound #18 16th/18th buses will travel over the regular route to Ogden/California then will operate via Ogden, Washtenaw to 16th and then resume the regular route. Westbound buses are not affected and will travel along the regular route.
Westbound #38 Ogden/Taylor buses will travel over the regular route to Western/Ogden then will operate via Western, 16th to Washtenaw and then resume the regular route. Eastbound buses are not affected and will travel along the regular route.
Late Night Reroute of #70 Division Buses Sunday Night
The Division Street Bridge over the north branch of the Chicago River will be closed to all traffic from 10 p.m. Sunday, May 17 until 6 a.m. the following morning, due to maintenance.
Eastbound #70 Division buses will operate over the regular route along Division to Milwaukee then will travel via Milwaukee, Chicago, Halsted to Division and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses will travel the reverse route.
Temporary Bus Stop Changes along the #55 Garfield and #X55 Garfield Express Routes
Due to construction, the eastbound and westbound bus stops at 55th Street/St. Louis served by #55 Garfield and #X55 Garfield Express buses will be temporarily relocated until Monday, June 1.
- Eastbound customers will board and exit buses from the near side stop at 55th Street/Homan.
- Westbound customers will board and exit buses from the near side stop at 55th Street/Millard.
Reinstatement of Bus Stops near the Illinois Medical District
Effective Friday, May 15 at the start of service, the following bus stop changes will be implemented following the re-opening of streets and sidewalks adjacent to the Illinois Medical District:
#7 Harrison
The eastbound near side stop at Paulina/Harrison will be reinstated.
#126 Jackson
- The westbound mid-block stop along Harrison between Ashland and Paulina will be relocated to a near side stop at Harrison/Paulina. This change in location only affects #126 Jackson customers.
- The eastbound near side stop at Harrison/Paulina has been reinstated.
- The eastbound far side stop at Harrison/Wood has been reinstated.
Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market
From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday beginning May 16 through October 31, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
Eastbound #70 Division buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Buses Detoured for the Annual Monsters of the Midway Criterium Bicycle Race
Ellis Avenue and Dorchester Avenue at Midway Plaisance will be closed from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday, May 16 for the Annual Monsters of the Midway Criterium Bicycle Race.
Eastbound #59 59th/61st buses will operate over the regular route along Dorchester to 60th Street then will travel via 60th Street, Stony Island, Midway Plaisance East, Cornell, Midway Plaisance West, Stony Island to 60th Street for end of route and start of westbound service. Westbound #59 buses will travel over the regular route.
Southbound #171 U of Chicago/Hyde Park and #172 U of Chicago/Kenwood buses will travel over their regular routes along Ellis Avenue to 57th Street then will operate via 57th Street, Cottage Grove to 60th Street and then resume their regular routes.
Northbound #171 and #172 buses will operate over their regular routes along 60th Street to Stony Island then will travel via Stony Island to 59th Street and then resume the regular route past Dorchester.
Walk Now for Autism Temporarily Detours #146 Buses Saturday
From 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, May 16, McFetridge Drive will be closed between Lake Shore Drive and Museum Campus Drive for the Walk Now for Autism.
Southbound #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses will operate south of McFetridge Drive to 18th Drive then will travel via 18th Drive to Museum Campus Drive and then resume the regular routing. Northbound #146 buses will travel the reverse route.
Jackie Robinson Opening Day Parade Temporarily Reroutes Buses on Sunday
The Jackie Robinson Opening Day parade is scheduled for Sunday, May 17 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Parade participants will assemble at 119th Street/Halsted and will proceed north on Halsted to 107th Street; west to Morgan and then disband at Jackie Robinson Park.
Southbound #8A South Halsted buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted to 103rd Street then will operate via 103rd Street, Vincennes, 119th Street to Halsted and then resume the regular route. Northbound #8A buses will travel the reverse route.
Southbound #119 Michigan/119th buses will operate over the regular route along 119th Street to Union then will travel via Union, 120th Street, Morgan to 119th Street and then resume the regular route.
Northbound #119 buses will travel over the regular route along 119th Street to Morgan then will operate via Morgan, 120th Street, Lowe to 119th Street and then resume the regular route.
Bus Tracker E-mail Subscription Feature and Remaining 20 Routes Activated on Monday
Beginning Monday, May 18, CTA customers can sign up via the CTA Bus Tracker Web site (
www.ctabustracker.com) to receive customized scheduled e-mails that will provide estimated times for the next buses arriving at a customer’s preferred bus stop(s). Information can be sent to both e-mail addresses and mobile devices as a text message.
In addition, the remaining 20 regularly scheduled bus routes will be activated on the Bus Tracker Web site on Monday. Routes new to Bus Tracker are:

Halsted Street Bridge Closure Monday Night Reroutes #8 Halsted Buses
Due to maintenance, the Halsted Street Bridge over the north branch of the Chicago River will be closed from 10 p.m. Monday, May 18 until 6 a.m. the following morning.
Northbound #8 Halsted buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted to Chicago then will operate via Chicago, Larrabee, Crosby, Division to Halsted and then resume the regular route. Southbound #8 buses will travel the reverse route.
Portions of LaSalle Street Closed Through December for Bridge Reconstruction
Beginning Monday, May 18 until Thursday, December 31, the northbound lanes of LaSalle Street between 28th and 26th streets will be closed to all traffic due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge.
Northbound #24 Wentworth buses will operate over the regular route along LaSalle to 31st Street then will travel via 31st Street, State, 26th Street to Wentworth and then resume the regular route. Southbound #24 buses are not affected and will operate over the regular route.
Ongoing Bus Reroutes
Temporary Relocation of Bus Terminal at Ford City Mall
Until 3 p.m. Monday, June 8, the CTA bus terminal located at Ford City Mall will be temporarily relocated approximately 800 feet southeast due to construction. This terminal is served by #54B South Cicero and #79 79th buses.
#60 Blue Island/26th Buses Rerouted Due to Construction
Until Friday, July 17, #60 Blue Island/26th buses operating in both directions will be rerouted due to the closure of Laflin Street between Cermak and 21st Street and the closure of Loomis Street between Cermak and 18th Street. The street closures are due to construction work at the Benito Juarez School campus.
Eastbound #60 Blue Island buses will operate over the regular route along Blue Island to Ashland then will travel via Ashland, 18th Street to Loomis/Blue Island and then resume the regular route along Blue Island. Westbound #60 buses will travel over the regular route along Blue Island past Laflin to 21st Street then will operate via 21st Street, Ashland to Cermak/Blue Island and then resume the regular route along Blue Island.
Buses Rerouted Due to Construction on Milwaukee Avenue
Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will be rerouted until Monday, November 30, due to construction on Milwaukee Avenue between Gale Street and Montrose Avenue.
Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will travel over their regular routes to Lawrence/Milwaukee to a far side stop then will continue eastbound on Lawrence to Lipps, heading north on Lipps to enter the Jefferson Park bus terminal. Westbound #81W and southbound #91 buses are not affected and will travel along their regular routes.
Bus Stop Relocated Due to Construction at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive
The bus stop located at Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive served by #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #157 Streeterville buses has been relocated due to construction. Customers must board and exit #157 buses at Inner Lake Shore Drive and Pearson.
#10 customers should board on Chestnut between Mies van der Rohe and Michigan or on Michigan southbound at Pearson.
Temporary Removal of Bus Stops at Cottage Grove/57th Street
The northbound far side and southbound near side bus stops near the intersection of Cottage Grove and 57th Street will be temporarily removed until further notice due to sewer repair work. These bus stops are served by northbound and southbound #2 Hyde Park Express, #4 Cottage Grove and #X4 Cottage Grove Express buses.
During this time, customers are advised to board #2, #4 and #X4 buses either one block north at Cottage Grove and 56th Street, or one block south at Cottage Grove and 58th Street.
