Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of May 11-13

Loop Track Renewal Work

This weekend, crews will resume work associated with the Loop Track Renewal project and replace deteriorated rail and track components along the Wells and Van Buren elevated structure. Work will require street closures resulting in bus reroutes.
 

Friday Night Reroute: Affecting Orange and Pink Line Trains

From 9 p.m. Friday, May 11 until end of service (approximately 1:45 a.m. the following morning), Orange and Pink line trains will be rerouted from the inner Loop tracks to operate on the outer Loop tracks, and travel in a counterclockwise direction. During these times, Orange and Pink line customers will need to board and exit trains from the Brown Line (outer Loop track) side of the platform.
 

Saturday Morning to Monday Morning: Wells/Van Buren Track Closure

From 4 a.m. Saturday, May 12 through 4 a.m. Monday, May 14, the inner and outer elevated tracks along Wells and Van Buren streets will be closed. During this time, all trains serving the Loop elevated will operate along the Wabash and Lake sections of track.
 
All rail lines serving the Loop will resume normal operations at the start of service on Monday, May 14.

Blue Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Boarding Changes at Addison and Belmont this Weekend

All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to Forest Park) tracks at the Addison and Belmont stations from 10 p.m. Friday, May 11 until 5 a.m. the following morning, due to station renewal work.
 
Blue Line customers at the Addison and Belmont stations must board and exit all trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 
Saturday Night – Affecting Southbound (to Forest Park) Trains
From 10 p.m. Saturday, May 12 until 6 a.m. the following morning, all Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to O’Hare) tracks at the Addison and Belmont stations as station renewal work continues.
 
During this time, southbound (to Forest Park) customers must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 

All Late Night Trains Operating on Same Tracks between LaSalle and UIC-Halsted

All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to O’Hare) tracks between the LaSalle and UIC-Halsted stations from 10 p.m. Tuesday, May 15 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to sewer cleaning work.
 
Southbound (to Forest Park) customers at the LaSalle, Clinton and UIC-Halsted stations must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the platform.
 
CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 
Wednesday and Thursday Nights – Affecting Northbound (to O’Hare) Trains
From 10 p.m. Wednesday, May 16 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again from 10 p.m. Thursday, May 17 until 4 a.m. the following morning, all Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound (to Forest Park) tracks between the UIC-Halsted and LaSalle stations as sewer cleaning work continues.
 
During these times, northbound (to O’Hare) customers at the UIC-Halsted, Clinton and LaSalle stations must board and exit trains from the southbound (to Forest Park) side of the platform.
 
 CTA operators will announce the direction of each train. Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. 
 

Brown Line – Events Affecting Service

Daytime Closure of the Northbound Auxiliary Entrance/Exit at Armitage Next Week

The auxiliary entrance/exit to the northbound (to Kimball) Armitage Brown Line station will be temporarily closed from 10:45 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day next week beginning Monday, May 14 through Thursday, May 17, while crews replace platform decking.
 
During these times, northbound (to Kimball) customers will be directed to access the Armitage station using the main entrance located along Armitage Avenue.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Sewer Repair Project Detours #43 43rd Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, June 29, #43 43rd buses are being detoured due to the closure of 42nd Place between Ellis and Lake Park avenues for a sewer repair project.
 
Eastbound #43 buses are traveling to 43rd Street/Oakenwald before turning to begin westbound service. From 43rd Street/Oakenwald, westbound #43 buses are operating via Oakenwald, 44th Place, Lake Park to 43rd street and then resuming the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of #75 74th/75th Bus Stop

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, October 12, the eastbound near side stop at 75th Street/Constance has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction. This stop is served by #75 74th/75th buses.
 

Saturdays: Near North Farmer’s Market Detours #36 Broadway, #70 Division Buses

From 5 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday beginning May 12 through October 27, #36 Broadway and #70 Division buses will be detoured due to the closure of Division Street between State and Clark for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Buses Detoured for the Annual Monsters of the Midway Bicycle Race

From 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, May 12, #59 59th/61st, #171 U of C/Hyde Park and #172 U of C/Kenwood buses will be detoured due to the closure of Midway Plaisance Drive between Cottage Grove and Stony Island and Ellis, Woodlawn and Dorchester avenues between 59th Street and 60th Street for the Annual Monsters of the Midway Bicycle Race.
 
Eastbound #59 buses will operate over the regular route along Dorchester to 60th Street then will travel via 60th Street, Stony Island, Midway Plaisance East, Cornell, Midway Plaisance West, Stony Island to 60th Street before turning to begin westbound service. Westbound #59 buses will travel over the regular route.
 
Southbound #171 and #172 buses will travel over their regular routes along Ellis Avenue to 57th Street then will operate via 57th Street, Cottage Grove to 60th Street and then resume their regular routes.
 
Northbound #171 and #172 buses will operate over their regular routes along 60th Street to Stony Island then will travel via Stony Island to 59th Street and then resume the regular route past Dorchester.
 

#78 Montrose Buses Detoured Saturday for Construction Work

From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 12, #78 Montrose buses will be detoured due to the temporary closure of Montrose Avenue at Ravenswood for construction work.
 
Eastbound #78 buses will operate over the regular route along Montrose to Damen then will travel via Damen, Irving Park, Ashland to Montrose and then resume the regular route. Westbound #78 buses will travel the reverse route.

 

Nine CTA Bus Routes Detoured on Sunday for the Y-ME Race in Grant Park

From 1 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 13, nine CTA bus routes will be detoured in the Grant Park area due to the 2012 Y-ME Race at Your Pace event. The race begins at 8 a.m.
 
As a result, the #3 King Drive, #4 Cottage Grove, #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #14 Jeffrey Express, #18 16th/18th, #126 Jackson, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express and #147 Outer Drive Express buses will be temporarily rerouted to adjacent streets beginning with the set-up, during the race and until clean-up work is complete.
 
From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. the following streets will be closed:
 
  • Balbo between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive
  • Columbus between Randolph and Roosevelt
  • Congress between Michigan and Columbus (including Congress Plaza)
  • Northbound Michigan between Roosevelt and Congress
  • Westbound Roosevelt between Columbus and Michigan
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

Beverly Breast Cancer Walk Detours #103 West 103rd Buses on Sunday

From 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday, May 13, #103 West 103rd buses will be detoured due to the closure of 103rd Street between Leavitt and Hoyne for the annual Beverly Breast Cancer Walk.
 
Westbound #103 buses will operate over the regular route along 103rd Street to Vincennes then will travel via Vincennes, Monterey, 111th Street, Western to 103rd Street and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #103 buses will travel the reverse route. 
 

Monday: Reinstatement of #78 Montrose Bus Stop at Montrose/Damen

Effective with the start of service on Monday, May 14, eastbound #78 Montrose buses will resume serving the near side bus stop at Montrose/Damen.
 

Ongoing Bus Service Changes 

Reroute of #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 3 p.m. Friday, May 25, #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago buses are being detoured due to the closure of the 92nd Street (Ewing) Bridge over the Calumet River for bridge repair work. 
 
Southbound #26 and #30 buses are operating over their regular routes along 91st Street to Mackinaw then are traveling via Mackinaw, Harbor, South Chicago, 95th Street to Ewing and then resuming their regular routes. Northbound #26 and #30 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect: 
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 

Temporary Removal of #29 State Bus Stop at State/Pershing

Currently in effect until Friday, June 1, the southbound far side stop at State/Pershing has been removed from service due to nearby construction work. Customers are advised to board southbound #29 buses one block south at 40th Street.
 

Bus Stop at Archer/Cicero Temporarily Removed from Service

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, June 4, the southbound far side bus stop at Archer/Cicero will be temporarily removed from service due to the demolition of a nearby building. This stop is currently served by #62 Archer and #62H Archer/Harlem buses.
 
During this time, customers can board southbound #62 buses at the existing near side stop at Archer/Cicero. Southbound #62H buses will serve the existing stop located at Archer/Lamon.
 

Wacker Drive Stage III Work Affecting 18 Downtown CTA Bus Routes

Currently in effect, 18 CTA bus routes that operate in the downtown area near Adams and Monroe streets at Wacker Drive are operating under temporary service changes, due to work associated with Stage III of the Wacker Drive construction project.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time along these routes:

With the re-opening of Madison Street at Wacker Drive, #19 United Center Express, #20 Madison, #56 Milwaukee and #122 Illinois Center/Ogilvie Express buses have returned to their original routing.

Eastbound #64 Foster/Canfield Buses Detoured for Viaduct Reconstruction Work

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, August 17, eastbound #64 Foster/Canfield buses are being detoured due to the closure of Higgins/Oriole for the reconstruction of the nearby viaduct over the Kennedy Expressway.
 
Eastbound #64 buses are traveling over the regular route along Canfield to Seminole then are operating via Seminole to Higgins and then resuming the regular route. Westbound #64 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Bus Stop Changes Due to Kedzie Bridge Reconstruction Work

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, October 1, the following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by #52A South Kedzie, #67 67th/69th/71st and #94 South California due to reconstruction work on the Kedzie Avenue Bridge between Marquette and 71st Street:
 
#52A South Kedzie
  • Kedzie/Marquette: the northbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a westbound near side stop on Marquette at Kedzie.
  • Kedzie/71st Street: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily removed from service.
 
#67 67th/69th/71st
  • 71st Street/Kedzie: the westbound near side stop has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
 
#94 South California
  • 71st Street/Kedzie: the westbound stop has been temporarily removed from service.
 

New Routing for #24 Wentworth Buses Traveling to 87th/Racine Only

Currently in effect until further notice, the routing of #24 Wentworth buses traveling to 87th Street/Racine only has been changed on a trial basis to serve the new businesses along Holland Road, in response to customer feedback.
 
As a result, southbound and northbound #24 buses (to 87th Street/Racine) are no longer operating on Vincennes between 83rd and 87th streets. Instead, southbound buses are traveling over the regular route along Vincennes to 83rd Street, then operating via 83rd Street, Princeton/Holland, 87th Street to Vincennes and continuing west on 87th Street over the regular route. Northbound buses will travel the reverse.
 

Weekdays Only: Temporary Change in Routing for Northbound #147 Buses

Currently in effect until further notice, from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. on weekdays only northbound #147 Outer Drive Express buses will undergo a temporary change in routing due to heavy traffic congestion on Congress between Michigan and State.
 
From 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. on weekdays only, northbound #147 buses will travel over the regular route along Congress to Michigan then will operate via Michigan, Van Buren to State and then resume the regular route.
 
During all other hours of operation, northbound #147 buses will operate over the regular route via Congress to State.
 
Southbound #147 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of #72 North Avenue Bus Stop

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2013, the westbound near side stop at North Avenue/Washtenaw has been relocated to a far side stop. This stop is served by #72 North Avenue buses.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Lake Park/53rd Street

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Lake Park/53rd Street has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction work. This stop is served by #6 Jackson Park Express, #X28 Stony Island Express and #171 U of C/Hyde Park buses.
 

Relocation of #36 Broadway Bus Stop Due to Nearby Construction

Currently in effect until Friday, July 12, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Broadway/Elmdale served by #36 Broadway buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

Removal of Bus Stop Change Affects Five Routes

Currently in effect until Thursday, August 1, 2013, the mid-block bus stop located at 5800 South Stony Island has been temporarily removed due to construction. This stop is served by the #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #15 Jeffery Local, #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island Express buses.
