Service for Upcoming Events
2011 Taste of Chicago
The CTA encourages visitors attending the 2011 Taste of Chicago at Grant Park to take public transportation to the annual food festival. Convenient and affordable service is available for the event held from Friday, June 24 through Sunday, July 3.
Extensive bus and rail service will be available to accommodate the crowds expected to attend the festival. Longer trains will operate into the Loop until late night on Taste weekends and extra buses will be available toward the close of each evening’s activities.
Chicago Pride Fest & Parade and Rocks Festival
On Sunday, June 26, the CTA will provide increased mid-day bus service and also will operate longer trains to accommodate the anticipated increase in ridership for those attending the Chicago Pride Parade in Lincoln Park and the Rocks Festival at Montrose-Wilson Beach.
Rail Service
- Red Line: more frequent service and longer trains will operate from approximately 10:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.
- Brown Line: longer trains will operate from approximately 9 a.m. until 10:30 p.m.
Bus Service
- #78 Montrose: additional service will be provided for those traveling between Montrose/Clark and Montrose Beach from approximately 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.
- #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express: additional service will be provided to accommodate customers traveling between Belmont/Sheridan and Montrose Beach from approximately 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
New/Updated Changes in Bus Service
Emergency Sewer Project Temporarily Detours #96 Lunt Buses
Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Friday, June 24, #96 Lunt buses are being detoured due to the closure of Lunt Avenue at Campbell for an emergency sewer project.
Westbound #96 buses are traveling over the regular route along Lunt to Western then are operating via Western, Touhy past California and resuming the regular route west on Touhy. Eastbound #96 buses are traveling the reverse route.
Reinstatement of #152 Addison Bus Stop at Addison/Springfield
Currently in effect, #152 Addison buses have resumed serving the eastbound and westbound near side stops at Addison/Springfield. These stops were previously removed from service due to a sewer reconstruction project.
Six Bus Routes Detoured from Grant Park for the Taste of Chicago
Currently in effect until 3 p.m. Monday, July 4, six CTA bus routes are being detoured due to the closure of Columbus Drive between Roosevelt and Monroe; Monroe Drive between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive; Jackson Drive between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive; and Congress Parkway between Michigan and Columbus for the Taste of Chicago.
Buses operating along the following routes are being rerouted to adjacent streets to maintain service: #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry, #14 Jeffery Express, #26 South Shore Express and #X28 Stony Island Express .
Southbound #2 and #10 buses are traveling over their regular routes along State past Balbo to 31st Street then operating via 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and resuming their regular routes. Northbound #2 and #10 buses are traveling the reverse route.
Northbound #6 buses are operating over the regular route along Lake Shore Drive to 31st Street then traveling via 31st Street, Jackson to Michigan and resuming the regular route. Southbound #6 buses are operating over the regular route along State past Balbo to 31st Street then traveling via 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and resuming the regular route.
Northbound #14 buses are traveling over the regular route along Lake Shore Drive to 31st Street then operating via 31st Street, State to Madison and resuming the regular route. Southbound #14 buses are traveling over the regular route along Monroe to State then operating via State, 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and resuming the regular route.
Northbound #26 buses are operating over the regular route along Lake Shore Drive to 31st Street then will operate via 31st Street, State, Jackson to Michigan and resuming the regular route. Southbound #26 buses are operating over the regular route along Michigan to Adams then traveling via Adams, State, 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and resuming the regular route.
Northbound #X28 buses are traveling over the regular route along Lake Shore Drive to 31st Street then operating via 31st Street, State to Adams and resuming the regular route. Southbound #X28 buses are traveling over the regular route along Jackson to State then operating via State, 31st Street to Lake Shore Drive and resuming the regular route.
Fountain Square Arts Festival Detours Three Routes in Evanston This Weekend
From 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 24 until approximately 6 a.m. Monday, June 27, northbound #201 Central/Ridge and southbound #N201 Central/Sherman and #205 Chicago/Golf buses will be detoured due to the closure of Church Street between Benson and Orrington and Sherman Avenue between Elgin and Davis for the Fountain Square Arts Festival.
Northbound #201 buses will travel over the regular route along Church to Benson then will operate via Benson, Elgin, Clark to Chicago and then resume the regular route. Southbound #201 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Southbound #N201 buses will operate over the regular route along Sherman to Elgin then will travel via Elgin, Clark, Chicago, Davis to Sherman and then resume the regular route. Northbound #N201 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Southbound #205 buses will travel over the regular route along Church to Benson then will operate via Benson, Elgin, Clark, Chicago to Church and then resume the regular route. Northbound #205 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Halsted Closed for Chicago Pride Fest and Parade This Weekend
From 8 a.m. Friday, June 24 until 8 a.m. Sunday, June 26, #8 Halsted buses will be detoured due to the closure of Halsted Street between Addison and Broadway for the annual Chicago Pride Fest and Parade.
Northbound #8 buses will operate along Halsted to Addison then will travel via Addison, Inner Lake Shore Drive, West Sheridan, Broadway to the Waveland terminal before turning to begin southbound service. From Broadway/Waveland southbound #8 buses will travel via Broadway, Addison to Halsted and then resume the regular route.
Sunday – Pride Parade
From 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, June 26, seven CTA bus routes will be unable to provide service along the following streets due to The Pride Parade:
- Halsted Street between Fullerton and Waveland
- Clark Street between Fullerton and Irving Park
- Broadway between Fullerton and Irving Park
- Diversey Parkway between Sheffield and Lake Shore Drive
- Belmont Avenue between Sheffield and Lake Shore Drive
- Sheridan Road between Belmont and Diversey
- Stockton Drive between Cannon and Fullerton
- Cannon Drive between Diversey and Stockton
- Addison Street between Clark and Lake Shore Drive
The parade steps-off at noon. Buses operating on the #8 Halsted, #22 Clark, #36 Broadway, #76 Diversey, #77 Belmont, #151 Sheridan and #152 Addison routes will be rerouted to adjacent streets for the duration of the parade.
Green Music Festival Detours #50 Damen Buses This Weekend
From 1 a.m. Saturday, June 25 until approximately 5 a.m. Monday, June 27, #50 Damen buses will be detoured due to the closure of Damen Avenue between North Avenue and Schiller for the annual Green Music Festival.
Southbound #50 buses will travel over the regular route along Damen to North Avenue then will operate via North Avenue, Western, Division to Damen and then resume the regular route.
Proud to Run Event Detours #78 Montrose Buses Saturday Morning
From 8 a.m. until 9 a.m. Saturday, June 25, #78 Montrose buses will be rerouted due to the closure of Wilson Drive between Simonds and Lake Shore Drive, Simonds Drive between Montrose and Wilson, and Montrose Drive between Lake Shore Drive and Simonds – for the Proud to Run event.
Eastbound #78 buses will operate over the regular route along Wilson to Marine then will travel via Marine, Montrose to Simonds before beginning westbound service. Westbound #78 buses will continue north on Simonds to Wilson then will operate via Wilson, Marine to Montrose and resume the regular route.
Rocks Festival Reroutes #78 Montrose Buses Sunday Morning
From 8:15 a.m. until approximately 9:30 p.m. Sunday, June 26, lane restrictions for the Rocks Festival at Montrose-Wilson Beach will result in the reroute of #78 Montrose buses.
Eastbound #78 buses will travel over the regular route along Wilson to Marine then will operate via Marine, Montrose to Simonds before beginning westbound service. Westbound #78 buses will continue north on Simonds to Wilson then will travel via Wilson, Marine to Montrose and resume the regular route.
The Race to Taste Run/Walk Detours 11 CTA Bus Routes Sunday Morning
From 6 a.m. until 11 a.m. Sunday, June 26, 11 CTA bus routes will be detoured due to the closure of Congress Plaza, Balbo Drive between Michigan and Lake Shore Drive and Columbus Drive between Roosevelt and Balbo for the annual Race to the Taste Run/Walk.
The following routes will be detoured to adjacent streets to maintain service during this time:

Ongoing Bus Service Changes
Temporary Relocation of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Harrison/Paulina
Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Friday, July 15, the westbound near side stop at Harrison/Paulina served by #126 Jackson buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
Repairs to Bridge Detour #111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses
Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, September 30, #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses are being detoured from Cottage Grove between 98th Street and 100th Place due to bridge repair work.
Southbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 95th Street to King Drive then operating via King Drive, 100th Street to Cottage Grove and resuming the regular route. Northbound #111 buses are traveling the reverse route.
#36 Broadway and #70 Division Buses Detoured on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market
From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 29, #36 Broadway and #70 Division buses will be detoured due to the closure of Division Street between State and Clark for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
Construction Detours #20 Madison and #90 Harlem Buses Until December
Currently in effect Friday, December 2, eastbound #20 Madison (Owl service) buses and #90 Harlem buses are being detoured due to the closure of North Boulevard and South Boulevard between Marion and Home for a construction project.
Eastbound #20 (Owl service) buses are operating over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are traveling via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Lake and resuming the regular route. Westbound #20 (Owl service) buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
Southbound #90 buses are traveling over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are operating via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Harlem/South Boulevard before turning to begin northbound service. From Harlem/South Boulevard, northbound #90 buses are traveling north on Harlem over the regular route.
Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses
Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State and Grand, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then are operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
Changes in Service along #8 Halsted Route for Bridge Reconstruction Project
Currently in effect until late-December 2011, Halsted Street between Division and the north branch of the Chicago River is closed due to a bridge reconstruction project.
Northbound #8 Halsted buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted past Chicago to North Branch then are operating via North Branch, Cherry, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
Changes to Bus Stops
- Halsted/North Branch: the northbound far side stop on Halsted has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop on North Branch at Halsted.
- Halsted/Division: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop.
Service Changes for 13 CTA Bus Routes due to Wacker Drive Construction
Until further notice, 13 CTA bus routes that operate on or near Wacker Drive have undergone service changes due to several downtown street closures as part of the Revive Wacker Drive reconstruction project.
These street closures are affecting service on the #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick, #19 United Center Express, #20 Madison, #56 Milwaukee, #60 Blue Island/26th, #120 Ogilvie/Wacker Express, #121 Union/Wacker Express, #122 Illinois Center/Ogilvie Express, #123 Illinois Center/Union Express, #124 Navy Pier, #125 Water Tower Express, #129 West Loop/South Loop and the #157 Streeterville/Taylor.
Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project
Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
- Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
- Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
- 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
- Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
- Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
- Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only:
- Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
