Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Trains to Operate on the Southbound Tracks at the 69th Street Station This Weekend

All Red Line trains will be routed to operate on the southbound tracks at the 69th Street station from 4 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, July 10 and then again from 4 a.m. until 1 p.m. Sunday, July 11.
 
During these times, northbound Red Line customers at the 69th Street station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Southbound Red Line Trains Unable to Stop at Argyle and Lawrence This Sunday

A daytime reroute will be in effect for southbound Red Line trains operating between the Berwyn and Addison stations from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday, July 11, due to structure repair work.
 
During this time, southbound Red Line trains will be rerouted to operate on the southbound Purple Line Express tracks and will be unable to make stops at the Argyle and Lawrence stations.
 
Southbound Red Line customers who want to exit at Argyle or Lawrence should travel to Wilson and board a northbound train to the appropriate station. Customers at Argyle and Lawrence who want to travel south should board a northbound train to Berwyn to access a southbound train.
 
Wilson Boarding Changes - Southbound Only
Southbound customers at the Wilson station must board and exit trains from the outer (west auxiliary) platform instead of the inner platform.
 
Northbound Red Line trains are unaffected at the Wilson station.
 
Sheridan Boarding Changes - Southbound Only
Southbound customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platform instead of the inner platform.
 
Northbound Red Line trains are unaffected at the Sheridan station.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

Late Night Trains to Operate on a Single Track in the State Street Subway Next Week

All Red Line trains traveling between the North/Clybourn and Grand stations in the State Street subway will be routed to operate on the northbound tracks from 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, July 12 through Friday morning, July 16, due to subway cleaning.
 
During these times, southbound Red Line customers at the Clark/Division station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Southbound Red Line customers at the Grand and Chicago stations must board and exit trains from the northbound platform.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Orange Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Trains to Operate on a Single Track between the Midway and Pulaski Stations

From 9 p.m. Sunday, July 11 until the end of service (approximately midnight), all Orange Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound tracks between the Midway and Pulaski stations due to routine track maintenance
 
During these times, southbound Orange Line customers at the Pulaski station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Next Week
From 9 p.m. each night until the end of service (approximately 1:30 a.m.) on Monday night, July 12 and then again on Tuesday night, July 13, all Orange Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound tracks between the Midway and Pulaski stations due to routine track maintenance
 
During these times, southbound Orange Line customers at the Pulaski station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

All Trains Routed to Operate on the Northbound Tracks at the 35th/Archer Station

All Orange Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound tracks at the 35th/Archer station from 9 p.m. each night until the end of service (approximately 1:30 a.m.) on Wednesday night, July 14 and then again on Thursday night, July 15, due to routine track maintenance.  
 
During these times, southbound Orange Line customers at the 35th/Archer station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Service for Upcoming Events

#19 United Center Express Service for the Carole King and James Taylor Concert

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses before and after the Carole King and James Taylor concert on Friday, July 9. The concert begins at 8 p.m.
 
Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes prior to the start of the concert.  When the concert ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
#19 buses no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton.  From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
 
After the concert, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3.  On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

#55A 55th/Austin Buses Detoured Until Sunday for the Saint Symphorosa Carnival

Currently in effect until 10 p.m. Sunday, July 11, Austin Avenue at 61st Street is closed to all traffic due to the annual Saint Symphorosa Church Carnival. As a result of this street closure, #55A 55th/Austin buses are being detoured.
 
Westbound #55A buses are traveling over the regular route along Austin to 61st Street then are operating via 61st Street, Narragansett, 63rd Street to Meade and then resuming the regular route.
 
Eastbound #55A buses are operating over the regular route along Austin to 63rd Street then are traveling via 63rd Street, Mayfield, 61st Street to Austin and then resuming the regular route.
 

Sewer Installation Project Detours #152 Addison Buses until Monday Afternoon

Addison Street between Lincoln and Ashland will have full and partial street closures until 3:30 p.m. Monday, July 12, due to a sewer installation project. As a result of this work, a two-phase reroute is in effect for #152 Addison buses.  
 
Phase I – Eastbound and Westbound
Currently in effect until 3:30 p.m. Friday, July 9, Addison between Lincoln and Ashland is closed to both eastbound and westbound traffic.
 
Eastbound #152 buses are traveling over the regular route along Addison to Lincoln then are operating via Lincoln, Irving Park, Ashland to Addison and then resuming the regular route. Westbound #152 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
Phase II – Westbound Only
From approximately 3:30 p.m. Friday, July 9 until 3:30 p.m. Monday, July 12, the westbound lanes of Addison between Lincoln and Ashland will be closed to all traffic.
 
During this time, westbound #152 buses will operate over the regular route along Addison to Ashland then will travel via Ashland, School, Lincoln to Addison and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #152 will not be affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Eight Downtown CTA Bus Routes Temporarily Rerouted for Movie Filming

Due to the filming of the movie Transformers 3, LaSalle Street between Jackson and Randolph; Washington between Wells and Clark; Randolph between Wacker and Wells; and Wacker between Monroe and Van Buren will be closed to all traffic beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, July 9 until 5 a.m. Monday, July 12.
 
Due to these street closures, the following eight CTA bus routes will be detoured to adjacent streets:

#56 Milwaukee
#130 Museum Campus
#60 Blue Island/26th

Taste of Park Ridge Temporarily Reroutes #68 Buses Until Sunday Morning

The Park Ridge Metra station is currently closed to all traffic until 7 a.m. Sunday, July 11, for the annual Taste of Park Ridge festival. As a result, #68 Northwest Highway buses will not be entering the station parking lot before beginning the southbound route.
 
Northbound #68 buses are operating over the regular route to Summit/Prospect then are traveling via Prospect to Northwest Highway before turning to begin southbound service. Southbound #68 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick Buses Detoured for Two Separate Events This Weekend

Chicago Folk and Roots Festival
From 6 p.m. Friday, July 9 until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, July 11, Lincoln Avenue between Montrose and Sunnyside will be closed to all traffic for the Chicago Folk and Roots Festival.
 
Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses will travel over the regular route along Western past Leland to Montrose then will operate via Montrose to Lincoln and then resume the regular route. Northbound #11 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Rock Around the Block Festival
From 2 a.m. Saturday, July 10 until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, July 11, Lincoln Avenue between Belmont and School will be closed to all traffic for the Rock Around the Block Festival.
 
Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses will operate over the regular route along Lincoln to Addison then will travel via Addison, Ashland to Lincoln and then resume the regular route. Northbound #11 buses will travel over the regular route along Lincoln to Ashland then will operate via Ashland, School to Lincoln and then resume the regular route.
 

#66 Chicago Buses Detoured This Weekend for the West Fest Event

Chicago Avenue between Damen and Wood will be closed from 1 a.m. Saturday, July 10 until 5 a.m. Monday, July 12, for the annual West Fest event. During this time, #66 Chicago buses operating in both directions will be detoured to adjacent streets.
 
Eastbound #66 buses will travel over the regular route along Chicago to Damen then will operate via Damen, Augusta, Ashland to Chicago and then resume the regular route. Westbound #66 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

The Roscoe Village Burger Fest Detours #77 Belmont Buses This Weekend

Belmont Avenue between Leavitt and Damen will be closed to all traffic from 2 a.m. Saturday, July 10 until 4 a.m. Monday, July 12, for the Roscoe Village Burger Fest. During this time, #77 Belmont buses operating in both directions will be detoured to adjacent streets.
 
Eastbound #77 buses will operate over the regular route along Belmont to Western then will travel via Western, Roscoe, Damen to Belmont and then resume the regular route. Westbound #77 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Two Routes Detoured Late Saturday Night for the McDonald’s L.A.T.E. Ride Event

From 11 p.m. Saturday, July 10 until 4 a.m. Sunday, July 11, Columbus Drive between Roosevelt and Congress will be closed to all traffic for the McDonald’s L.A.T.E. Ride event. As a result of the street closure, #6 Jackson Park Express and #14 Jeffery Express buses will be temporarily detoured.
 
Northbound #6 and #14 buses will travel over their regular routes along Columbus to Roosevelt then will operate via Roosevelt to Michigan and then resume their regular routes north on Michigan past Balbo.
 
Southbound #6 and #14 buses will operate over their regular routes along Michigan past Balbo to Roosevelt then will travel via Roosevelt to Columbus and then resume their regular routes.
 

Chicago Avenue Bridge Maintenance Detours #66 Chicago Buses Next Week

The Chicago Avenue Bridge over the north branch of the Chicago River will be closed to all traffic from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13 and then again during the same hours on Thursday, July 15, due to bridge maintenance.
 
Eastbound #66 Chicago buses will travel over the regular route along Chicago to Halsted then will operate via Halsted, Division, Crosby, Larrabee to Chicago and then resume the regular route. Westbound #66 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

Temporary Reroute in Effect along #94 South California Route

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Friday, July 9, the northbound curb-side lane of Sacramento at Chicago Avenue will be closed to all traffic due to a curb replacement project.
 
Northbound #94 South California buses are traveling over the regular route along Sacramento to Chicago before turning to begin southbound service. From Chicago/Troy, southbound #94 buses are operating via Chicago, Kedzie, Grand to Sacramento and resuming the regular route south on Sacramento.
 

Water Main Reconstruction Project Detours Westbound #56A North Milwaukee Buses

Currently in effect until Sunday, August 1, Devon Avenue between New Castle and Oak Park will be closed to all traffic due to a water main reconstruction project.
 
Westbound #56A North Milwaukee buses are traveling over the regular route along Milwaukee to Nagle then are operating via Nagle, Northwest Highway to Harlem and then resuming the regular route.
 

#81 Lawrence Bus Stops near the Kennedy Expressway Temporarily Eliminated

Currently in effect until Tuesday, August 31, the eastbound and westbound near side bus stops on Lawrence at LeClaire served by #81 Lawrence buses have been temporarily removed from service due to rehabilitation work on the Lawrence Avenue viaduct.
 

Temporary Elimination of Bus Stop at Michigan/Delaware

Currently in effect until Tuesday, August 31, the southbound near side stop at Michigan/Delaware has been temporarily removed from service due to sidewalk reconstruction work.
 
This stop is served by #33 Mag Mile Express, #143 Stockton/Michigan Express, #144 Marine/Michigan Express, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express, #147 Outer Drive Express, #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
 
Customers may board and exit these buses from the near side stop at Michigan/Pearson.
 

Temporary Relocation of #75 74th/75th Bus Stop at 75th Street/Jeffery

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday, September 30, the eastbound near side stop at 75th Street/Jeffery served by #75 74th/75th buses has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

Temporary Reroute in Effect for #78 Montrose Buses Due to Work at Clark/Wilson

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Friday, October 29, #78 Montrose buses are temporarily unable to make turns at the intersection of Clark/Wilson due to a streetscape project.
 
Eastbound #78 Montrose buses are operating over the regular route along Montrose to Ashland then are traveling via Ashland, east on Wilson past Clark and then resuming the regular route east on Wilson. Westbound #78 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

#111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses Undergo Reroutes Due to Bridge Repair Work

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Sunday, October 31, the 111th Street Bridge over Interstate 57 (I-57) is closed to all traffic due to bridge and deck replacement work, resulting in a detour of the #111 Pullman/111th/115th bus route.
 
Southbound #111 buses are operating over the regular route along 111th Street to Marshfield then traveling via Marshfield, 112th Place, Hamlet to 111th Street and then resuming the regular route east on 111th Street.
 
Northbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 111th Street to Throop then operating via Throop, 107th Street, Vincennes and then resuming the regular route south on Vincennes past 111th Street.
 

Temporary Removal of #126 Jackson Bus Stop at Jackson/Sangamon

Currently in effect until Friday, September 30, 2011, the eastbound far side stop at Jackson/Sangamon served by #126 Jackson buses has been temporarily removed from service due to nearby construction. Customers may board and exit eastbound #126 buses at either Jackson/Morgan or Jackson/Peoria.
 

Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 30, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market, resulting in a detour of the #36 Broadway and #70 Division bus routes.
 
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Jeffery/75th Street

Currently in effect until further notice, the southbound far side bus stop at Jeffery/75th Street has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop due to sidewalk construction. This stop is served by southbound #14 Jeffery Express and #15 Jeffery Local buses.
 

Temporary Changes in Service for #21 Cermak and #62 Archer Buses Serving the Cermak-Chinatown Station

Currently in effect, customers at the Cermak-Chinatown Red Line station must use the new entrance located approximately one block north of Cermak on Archer Avenue. This entrance will serve as the primary access point for customers while the main entrance to the station on the north side of Cermak is reconstructed and made accessible. 
 
As a result of these changes, and to accommodate customers transferring between bus and rail services, the following changes have been made to buses serving the station:
 
#21 Cermak
Eastbound #21 Cermak buses are traveling over the regular route along Cermak to Wentworth then operating via Wentworth, Archer, Clark to Cermak and resuming the regular route. Westbound #21 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
  • Cermak/Wentworth: the near side stop at Cermak/Wentworth served by eastbound #21 buses has been temporarily removed from service.
  • Wentworth/Cermak: new temporary stops have been added at Wentworth/Cermak for eastbound and westbound #21 buses. Eastbound customers must board and exit buses from the far side stop; westbound customers must board and exit buses from the near side stop.
  • Cermak/Red Line Station: the mid-block stop near the Cermak Road entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station has been temporarily removed from service.
  • Archer/Red Line Station: eastbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.
  • Wentworth/Archer: westbound #21 buses are serving the new temporary far side stop at Wentworth/Archer.
 
#62 Archer
  • Archer/Wentworth: the northbound near side stop at Archer/Wentworth served by #62 buses has been removed from service.
  • Archer/Red Line Station: northbound #62 buses are serving the new mid-block stop near the Archer Avenue entrance of the Cermak-Chinatown station.
 

#56 Milwaukee Bus Stop at Milwaukee/Diversey Temporarily Relocated

Until further notice, the southbound near side bus stop at Milwaukee/Diversey served by #56 Milwaukee buses has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Temporary Changes to Bus Stops near Sheridan/Foster

Currently in effect until further notice, the northbound near side stop at Sheridan/Foster has been temporarily removed from service due to the demolition and reconstruction of a nearby building. This stop is served by #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express, #147 Outer Drive Express and #151 Sheridan buses.
 

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Lower Wacker to the exit ramp for Upper Wacker and then traveling via Upper Wacker to Adams and resuming the regular route west on Adams.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
