Blue Line – Slow Zone Work

Blue Line Service between Clark/Lake and Western/Milwaukee Temporarily Suspended this Weekend

Rail service will be suspended in the Blue Line Dearborn subway from Clark/Lake to Western/Milwaukee starting at 10 p.m. Friday, July 31 until 4 a.m. Monday, August 3 due to track replacement work.
 
Bus shuttles will operate as a substitute for rail service making stops at Western/Milwaukee, Damen, Division, Chicago, Grand and Clark/Lake. Both the Western/Milwaukee and Clark/Lake stations are accessible to customers with disabilities.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Red Line – Slow Zone Work

REVISED: Weekend Reroute of Red Line Trains at Sheridan

This weekend, crews will continue work to reduce slow zones near the Sheridan Red Line station resulting in a continuous reroute of northbound and southbound trains from 6 a.m. Saturday, August 1 until 6 p.m. Sunday, August 2.
 
Northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 
Next Week
A daytime reroute will be in effect for Red Line trains operating in both directions at the Sheridan station from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, August 4 through Friday, August 7, while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
 
During these times, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Single Track in Effect at the Cicero and Pulaski Stations Two Nights Next Week

A late night single track will be in effect for eastbound Blue Line trains at the Cicero and Pulaski stations on the Forest Park branch from 9 p.m. Monday, August 3 until 4 a.m. the following morning, due to signal upgrade work.
 
Eastbound Blue Line customers at Cicero and Pulaski must board and exit trains from the westbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Tuesday Night – Westbound
From 9 p.m. Tuesday, August 4 until 4 a.m. the following morning, westbound Blue Line customers at the Pulaski and Cicero stations on the Forest Park branch must board and exit trains from the eastbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Changes in Boarding at the Kedzie-Homan Station Due to Late Night Single Track

Signal upgrade work along the Forest Park branch continues, resulting in a late night single track for eastbound Blue Line trains between the Pulaski and Western stations from 9 p.m. Wednesday, August 5 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
 
Eastbound Blue Line customers at the Kedzie-Homan station must board and exit trains from the westbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Thursday Night – Westbound
From 9 p.m. Thursday, August 6 until 4 a.m. the following morning, westbound Blue Line customers at the Kedzie-Homan station must board and exit trains from the eastbound side of the platform.

Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Northbound Trains Operating on a Single Track at the 69th Street Station

Due to track maintenance work, a late night single track will be in effect for northbound Red Line trains between the 79th Street and 69th Street stations from 11 p.m. Sunday, August 2 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again from 11 p.m. Monday, August 3 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
 
During these times, northbound Red Line customers at the 69th Street station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Trains Operating on a Single Track at the Garfield Station Three Nights Next Week

Due to track maintenance work, a late night single track will be in effect for northbound Red Line trains at the Garfield station from 11 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following night on Tuesday night, August 4, Wednesday night, August 5 and Thursday night, August 6.
 
During these times, northbound Red Line customers at the Garfield station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red/Brown Lines – Other Events Affecting Service

Red and Brown Line Trains Rerouted at Belmont and Fullerton This Weekend

Red and Brown line trains temporarily will be rerouted to operate on the northbound tracks at the Belmont and Fullerton stations from 10 p.m. Friday, July 31 until 4 a.m. Monday, August 3, due to platform work.  
 
Southbound Red and Brown line customers at the Belmont and Fullerton stations must board and exit trains from the northbound Red Line side of the platform. Northbound Red Line customers at these stations must board and exit trains from the northbound Brown Line side of the platform.
 
During this time, southbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at the Wellington and Diversey stations. Southbound Brown Line customers who want to exit at Diversey or Wellington should ride to Fullerton and transfer to a northbound train to their respective station. Customers at Diversey and Wellington who want to travel south should take a northbound train to Belmont and transfer to a southbound train.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the route and direction of each train.
 

Late Night Reroute of Red and Brown Line Trains at Fullerton on Monday and Tuesday

Due to the removal of the canopy at the Fullerton station, northbound Red and Brown line trains will be temporarily rerouted to operate on the southbound tracks from 9 p.m. Monday, August 3 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again from 9 p.m. Tuesday, August 4 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
 
Northbound Red and Brown line customers at the Fullerton station must board and exit trains from the southbound Red Line side of the platform. Southbound Red Line customers must board and exit trains from the southbound Brown Line side of the platform.
 
During this time, northbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at Diversey and Wellington. Northbound Brown Line customers who want to exit at Diversey or Wellington should ride to Belmont and transfer to a southbound train to their respective station. Customers at Diversey and Wellington who want to travel north should take a southbound train to Fullerton and transfer to a northbound train.

Trains Rerouted at the Fullerton and Belmont Stations Wednesday Night

Work associated with the Brown Line Capacity Expansion Project continues with the removal of the canopies at the Fullerton and Belmont stations on Wednesday night. From 9 p.m. Wednesday, August 5 until 4 a.m. the following morning, northbound Red and Brown line trains will be rerouted to operate on the southbound tracks.
 
Northbound Red and Brown line customers at Fullerton and Belmont must board and exit trains from the southbound Red Line side of the platform. Southbound Red Line customers at these stations must board and exit trains from the southbound Brown Line side of the platform.
 
During this time, northbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at Diversey and Wellington. Northbound Brown Line customers who want to exit at Diversey or Wellington should ride to Belmont and transfer to a southbound train to their respective station. From 9 p.m. Thursday, August 6 until 4 a.m. the following morning, northbound Red and Brown line trains at the Belmont station will be rerouted to operate on the southbound tracks.
 
Northbound Red and Brown line customers at the Belmont station must board and exit trains from the southbound Red Line side of the platform. Southbound Red Line customers must board and exit trains from the southbound Brown Line side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the route and direction of each train.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

UPDATE: Sewer Repairs Detour #44 Wallace/Racine Buses until Late August

Racine Avenue between 73rd and 72nd streets will be closed to all traffic from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily until Friday, August 21, due to sewer repair work.
 
Northbound #44 Wallace/Racine buses will travel over the regular route along Racine to 74th Street then will operate via 74th Street, Loomis, 71st Street to Racine and then resume the regular route. Southbound #44 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

UPDATE: Sewer Repair Work Reroutes #95E 93rd/95th and #N5 South Shore Night Buses

Due to sewer construction work, 93rd Street between Muskegon and Escanaba/Anthony/Exchange will be closed to all traffic until mid-August.
 
Eastbound #95E 93rd/95th and northbound #N5 South Shore Night buses will travel over their regular routes along 93rd Street to Colfax then will operate via Colfax, 95th Street, Escanaba to 93rd Street/Anthony/Exchange and then will travel northeast on Exchange over their regular routes. Westbound #95E and southbound #N5 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Change to #152 Addison Bus Stop

Effective immediately, the westbound near side stop at Addison/Kimball will be relocated to a far side stop.
 

Street Repairs Temporarily Detour Northbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland Buses

Currently in effect until Monday, August 10 at 5 a.m., northbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland buses will be detoured due to street repairs at the intersection of Montrose/Narragansett. As a result of this detour, northbound #86 buses will not make stops on the Wright College Campus.
 
Northbound #86 buses will travel over the regular route along Narragansett past Wright College Drive to Montrose where they will make a near side service stop. From Narragansett/Montrose, buses will continue north along Narragansett over the regular route.
 

Removal of Viaduct Detours #7 Harrison Buses until Thursday

Currently in effect until 5 p.m. Thursday, August 6, Harrison Street will be closed to all traffic between Washtenaw and Maplewood due to the removal of the nearby viaduct.
 
Westbound #7 Harrison buses will travel over the regular route along Harrison to Western then will operate via Western, Van Buren, California to Harrison and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #7 buses will operate over the regular route along Harrison to California then will travel via California, Congress, Western to Harrison and then resume the regular route.
 

Construction Work at the Fullerton and Belmont Stations Detours Three Routes

Due to work associated with the Brown Line Capacity Expansion project, both Belmont Avenue at the Red/Brown Line station and Fullerton Avenue at the Red/Brown Line station will be closed to all traffic from 9 p.m. Friday, July 31 until 7 p.m. Saturday, August 1.
 
Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses will operate over the regular route along Lincoln past Sheffield to Fullerton where they will make a near side service stop and then will continue southeast on Lincoln over the regular route.
 
Northbound #11 buses will travel over the regular route along Lincoln to Fullerton where they will make a far side stop then will continue northwest over Lincoln over the regular route.
 
Eastbound #74 Fullerton buses will travel over the regular route along Fullerton to Sheffield where they will make a near side service stop. Buses will travel south on Sheffield to Webster then will operate via Webster, Lincoln, Sheffield to Fullerton.
 
Westbound service along the #74 route will begin at Fullerton/Sheffield and buses will continue west on Fullerton over the regular route.
 
Eastbound #77 Belmont buses will operate over the regular route along Belmont to Sheffield and then will travel via Sheffield, Addison, Inner Lake Shore Drive to Belmont and then resume the regular route. Westbound #77 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
During OWL service hours, eastbound #77 Belmont buses will travel over the regular route along Belmont to Sheffield then will operate via Sheffield, Addison, Inner Lake Shore Drive to Belmont and then resume the regular route.
 
Westbound #77 OWL buses will operate over the regular route along Belmont to Clark then will travel via Clark, Addison, Sheffield to Belmont and then resume the regular route.
 

North Halsted Market Days Detours Three Routes This Weekend

Halsted Street will be closed between Belmont and Addison from 2 a.m. Saturday, August 1 until 4 a.m. Monday, August 3, due to the North Halsted Market Days festival.
 
Northbound #8 Halsted buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted to Clark then will operate via Clark, Sheffield, Addison to Halsted and then resume the regular route. Southbound #8 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
During OWL service hours, eastbound #77 Belmont buses will operate over the regular route along Belmont to Clark then will travel via Clark, Halsted, Belmont to Clark before beginning westbound service from Belmont/Clark. Westbound #77 buses will travel west along Belmont over the regular route.
 
Select northbound #151 Sheridan buses, which normally only operate to Belmont/Halsted, will travel over the regular route along Sheridan past Belmont and continue north on Inner Lake Shore Drive to Sheridan before beginning southbound service. Southbound #151 buses will operate along Inner Lake Shore Drive past Belmont and resume the regular route.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

Daytime Reroute of #151 Sheridan Buses on Saturday and Sunday

Due to the replacement of rail ties along the CTA elevated tracks, Sheridan Road will be closed between Irving Park and Dakin on Saturday, August 1 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and then again on Sunday, August 2 from 6 a.m. to noon.
 
Southbound #151 Sheridan buses will travel over the regular route along Sheridan to Irving Park then will operate via Irving Park, Clarendon, Broadway to West Sheridan and then resume the regular route. Northbound #151 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Open Streets Event Detours Four Routes on Saturday

On Saturday, August 1 from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m., Douglas Boulevard between Marshall and Independence; Franklin Street between Central Park and Sacramento; and Jackson Street between Central Park and Hamlin all will be closed for the Open Streets event.
 
Northbound #52 Kedzie/California buses will operate over the regular route along Kedzie to Ogden then will travel via Ogden, California, Roosevelt, Kedzie, Warren, Western, Chicago to California and then resume the regular route.
 
Southbound #52 buses will travel over the regular route along California to Chicago then will operate via Chicago, Western, Washington, Kedzie, Roosevelt, California, Ogden to Kedzie and then resume the regular route.
 
Southbound #82 Kimball/Homan buses will operate over the regular route along Homan to Chicago then will travel via Chicago, Pulaski, Madison, Homan, Roosevelt, Pulaski, 16th Street to Central Park and then resume the regular route. Northbound #82 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
Northbound #94 South California buses, which normally travel to Chicago/Kedzie, will only operate as far north as Fulton/Francisco before turning to begin southbound service. Southbound #94 buses will begin service from California/Walnut and then travel south along California over the regular route.
 
Westbound #126 Jackson buses will travel over the regular route along Jackson to Homan then will operate via Homan, Madison, Pulaski to Jackson and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #126 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival Detours #56 Milwaukee Buses on Saturday

On Saturday, August 1 from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m., Milwaukee Avenue between Logan/Troy and Kedzie Avenue south of Milwaukee will be closed for the annual Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival and the Open Street event.
 
Southbound #56 Milwaukee buses will operate over the regular route along Milwaukee to Diversey then will travel via Diversey, California to Milwaukee and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #56 buses will travel over the regular route along Milwaukee to Kedzie and then will operate along the Kedzie inner circle drive to Milwaukee and then resume the regular route.
 

22 CTA Bus Routes Detoured on Sunday for the Rock ‘N’ Roll Chicago Half Marathon

On Sunday, August 2 from 6:30 a.m. until approximately 9:30 a.m. the following 22 CTA bus routes will be detoured to adjacent streets to maintain service during the inaugural Rock ‘N’ Roll Chicago Half Marathon:

Ongoing Reroute of #60 Blue Island/26th Buses Concludes Monday Afternoon

On Monday, August 3 at noon, #60 Blue Island/26th buses operating in both directions will be permanently rerouted to operate along Loomis between Cermak and Blue Island. Buses were previously rerouted due to construction at the Benito Juarez School campus, which required street closures. 
 
Eastbound #60 buses now will operate over the regular route along Blue Island to Cermak then will travel via Cermak, Loomis to Blue Island and then resume the regular route.
 
Westbound #60 buses will travel over the regular route along Blue Island to Loomis then will operate via Loomis, Cermak to Blue Island then resume the regular route.
 

New Bus Stops Along the #60 Blue Island/26th Route Beginning Monday Afternoon

As a result of the new permanent routing, the following bus stops will be added along the #60 route beginning Monday afternoon:
 
  • Blue Island/Cermak-Ashland: eastbound near side stop.
  • Cermak/Laflin: eastbound and westbound near side stops; currently served by #21 Cermak buses.
  • Loomis/Cermak: eastbound and westbound near side stops.
  • Loomis/Cullerton: eastbound and westbound near side stops.
  • Loomis/Blue Island-18th Street: eastbound near side stop.
  • Loomis/Blue Island-18th Street: westbound far side stop.

Buses Detoured Until August Due to Division Street Bridge Repairs

The westbound lanes of the Division Street Bridge between Branch Street and Elston Avenue will be closed to all traffic until Friday, August 7, due to repair work.
 
Westbound #70 Division buses will operate over the regular route along Division to Larrabee then will travel via Larrabee to Chicago, Milwaukee, Elston to Division and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #70 buses will travel the regular route.
 
Southbound #132 Goose Island Express buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted past Division to North Branch then will operate via North Branch, Cherry to Division and then resume the regular route. Northbound #132 buses will travel over the regular route.
 

Construction Temporarily Detours #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland Buses

Due to construction work at the northeast corner of South Boulevard and Ridgeland, southbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland buses are temporarily detoured on weekdays only between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. until further notice.
 
Southbound #86 buses will operate over the regular route along Lake Street past Lombard to Austin then will travel via Austin, Washington, Ridgeland to the intersection of Ridgeland/South Boulevard and will make a near side service stop before beginning northbound service. Northbound #86 buses will continue north on Ridgeland over the regular route.
 

#75 74th/75th Bus Stop Changes

Due to sewer construction work, the eastbound and westbound bus stops at 75th Street/Indiana, served by #75 74th/75th buses, temporarily will be removed from service until further notice.
 
Eastbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Prairie or 75th Street/Michigan.
 
Westbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Michigan or 75th Street/Prairie.
 

Changes to #29 State Bus Stops until Late August

Due to construction work on a nearby water main, the northbound near side and the southbound far side stops at State/Pershing will be removed from service until Friday, August 21. Customers can board and alight northbound and southbound #29 buses from either State/38th Street or State/40th Street.
 

Temporary Removal of Bus Stop along the #81 Lawrence Route

Until Friday, August 21, the eastbound far side stop at Lawrence/Oakley, served by #81 Lawrence buses, temporarily will be removed from service due to construction work. Customers can board and exit at the eastbound near side stops at Lawrence/Western or Lawrence/Leavitt.
 

Sewer Construction Detours #75 74th/75th Buses until Early September

Due to sewer construction work, 75th Street between King Drive and Indiana Avenue will be closed to all traffic until Friday, September 4.
 
Eastbound #75 74th/75th buses will operate over the regular route along 75th Street to Indiana then will travel via Indiana, 76th Street, King Drive to 75th Street and then resume the regular route.
 
Westbound #75 buses will travel via 75th Street to King Drive then will operate via King Drive, 76th Street, Michigan to 75th Street and then resume the regular route.
 

Temporary Relocation of #8 Halsted Bus Stop

The southbound far side stop at Halsted/North Branch served by #8 Halsted buses will be temporarily relocated to a near side stop until Thursday, October 1. This bus stop is being relocated due to a traffic signal installation project.
 

Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 31, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 Division buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Buses Rerouted Due to Construction on Milwaukee Avenue

Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will be rerouted until Monday, November 30, due to construction on Milwaukee Avenue between Gale and Montrose.
 
Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will travel over their regular routes to Lawrence/Milwaukee to a far side stop then will continue eastbound on Lawrence to Lipps, heading north on Lipps to enter the Jefferson Park bus terminal. 
 
Westbound #81W and southbound #91 buses are not affected and will travel along their regular routes.
 

Reconstruction of LaSalle Street Bridge Detours Northbound #24 Wentworth Buses

LaSalle Street between 28th and 26th streets will be closed to all traffic until early-January 2010, due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge.
 
Northbound #24 Wentworth buses will operate over the regular route along LaSalle to 31st Street then will travel via 31st Street, State, 26th Street to Wentworth and then resume the regular route. Southbound #24 buses will travel over the regular route.
 
Changes to #24 Wentworth Bus Stops
Due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge, the following changes will be made to bus stops served by #24 Wentworth buses:
 
LaSalle/31st Street: the northbound far side stop will be relocated to a near side stop.
Wentworth/26th Street: the northbound near side stop will be relocated to a westbound near side stop at 26th Street/Wentworth.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #65 Grand Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses will be detoured to adjacent streets. These changes in service are expected to remain in place until April 2010.
 
Southbound #29 State buses will operate over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then will travel via Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #29 buses will be able to travel on the remaining open lane along State and will operate over its regular route. 
 
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along State to Ontario then will operate via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then will travel via Ohio to State and then resume the regular route.

14 CTA Bus Routes Affected Due to Jackson Viaduct Work

Due to the reconstruction of the Jackson Boulevard viaduct between Canal and Wacker, changes in service along 14 CTA bus routes are expected to remain in place until April 2010. The following CTA bus routes are being rerouted to adjacent streets:
