Brown Line – Events Affecting Service

Brown Line Trains Temporarily Rerouted for Structural Work

From 5 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday, July 17, southbound (to Loop) Brown Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to Kimball) tracks between the Irving Park and Southport stations while crews work on the elevated structure.
 
Southbound (to Loop) customers at the Addison, Paulina and Southport stations must board and exit trains from the northbound (to Kimball) platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Blue Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Boarding Changes in Dearborn Subway Next Week

All late night Blue Line trains will be routed to operate on the northbound (to O’Hare) tracks in the Dearborn subway from 10 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, July 18 through Friday morning, July 22, due to subway sewer cleaning work.
 
Southbound (to Forest Park) Blue Line customers at the Lake, Washington, Monroe and Jackson stations must board and exit trains from the northbound (to O’Hare) side of the tracks.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Green Line – Events Affecting Service

Late Night Trains Routed to Operate on Same Tracks at Central and Laramie

All late night Green Line trains will be routed to operate on the westbound (to Harlem) tracks between the Austin and Cicero stations from 9 p.m. each night until approximately 2 a.m. (or end of service) the following morning beginning Sunday night, July 17 through Thursday morning, July 21, due to track maintenance work.
 
During this time, eastbound (to the Loop) customers at the Central station must board and exit trains from the westbound (to Harlem) side of the platform.
 
Eastbound (to the Loop) customers at the Laramie station must board and exit trains from the westbound (to Harlem) platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Thursday – Affecting Westbound Trains
From 9 p.m. Thursday, July 21 until approximately 2 a.m. (or end of service) the following morning, all late night Green Line trains will be routed to operate on the eastbound (to the Loop) tracks between the Cicero and Austin stations as track maintenance work continues.
 
Westbound (to Harlem) customers at the Laramie station must board and exit trains from the eastbound (to the Loop) platform.
 
Westbound (to Harlem) customers at the Central station must board and exit trains from the eastbound (to the Loop) side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Service for Upcoming Events

Extra Service Provided for Pitchfork Music Festival in Union Park This Weekend

The CTA will operate longer trains on the Green and Pink lines for the Pitchfork Music Festival in Union Park beginning Friday, July 15 until Sunday, July 17. Concertgoers can get to Union Park via the # 9 Ashland and #20 Madison buses, or by taking the Green or Pink lines to the Ashland station.
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Jefferson Park Community Festival Detours Westbound #81 Lawrence Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 2 a.m. Monday, July 18, westbound #81 Lawrence buses are being detoured due to the closure of Lipps Avenue between Lawrence and Milwaukee for the annual Jefferson Park Community Festival.
 
Westbound #81 buses are operating over the regular route along Lawrence past Lipps to Milwaukee then traveling via Milwaukee into the south entrance of the Jefferson Park terminal. Eastbound #81 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 

Windy City Ribfest in Uptown Detours #36 Broadway Buses This Weekend

Currently in effect until approximately 4 a.m. Monday, July 18, #36 Broadway buses are being detoured due to the closure of Broadway between Lawrence and Leland for the annual Windy City Ribfest in Uptown.
 
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along Broadway to Lawrence then are operating via Lawrence, Sheridan, Wilson to Broadway and then resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

#55A 55th/Austin Buses Detoured Until Sunday for the Saint Symphorosa Carnival

Currently in effect until approximately 5 a.m. Monday, July 18, #55A 55th/Austin buses are being detoured due to the closure of Austin Avenue at 61st Street for the annual Saint Symphorosa Church Carnival.
 
Westbound #55A buses are traveling over the regular route along Austin to 61st Street then are operating via 61st Street, Narragansett, 63rd Street to Meade and then resuming the regular route.
 
Eastbound buses are operating over the regular route along Austin to 63rd Street then are traveling via 63rd Street, Central to 55th Street and then resuming the regular route.
 

Viaduct Work Temporarily Reroutes #8A South Halsted Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Monday, July 18, #8A Halsted buses are unable to travel on Halsted Street between 85th and 87th streets due to viaduct work.
 
Southbound #8A buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted to 85th Street/Summit then are traveling via Summit, 87th Street to Halsted and then resuming the regular route.
 
Northbound #8A buses are operating over the regular route along Halsted to Vincennes then are traveling via Vincennes, Summit to Halsted and then resuming the regular route.
 

Permanent Changes to CTA Bus Stops

Currently in effect, the following changes have been made to bus stops along the #90N North Harlem and #94 South California routes:
 
#90N North Harlem
  • Touhy/Octavia: the southbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
 
#94 South California
  • 2800 S. California: the southbound mid-block stop has been relocated approximately 100 feet north. The northbound mid-block stop has been relocated approximately 100 feet south.
  • 2900 S. California: the northbound mid-block stop has been relocated approximately 50 feet south.
 

Bus Stops Relocated Due to Construction at the Jones College Prep High School

Currently in effect, the following bus stop changes have been made due to construction at the Jones College Prep High School and the closure of sidewalks on State Street at Balbo. These stops are served by #29 State, #62 Archer, #129 West Loop/South Loop (PM Service Only), #130 Museum Campus and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express buses.
 
Affecting #29, #62, #130 and #146 Buses
  • State/Balbo: the southbound far side stop has been relocated to a far side stop at State/Polk.
 
Affecting #129 (PM Service Only) Buses
  • State/Polk: buses are now serving the new far side stop.
 

Relocation of #36 Broadway Bus Stop Due to Nearby Construction

Currently in effect until Friday, July 12, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Broadway/Elmdale served by #36 Broadway buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

Daytime Reroute of #59 59th/61st Buses on Sunday

From 7 a.m. until approximately 5 p.m. Sunday, July 17, #59 59th/61st buses will be detoured due to the closure of Dorchester Avenue between 60th and 61st streets for street paving work.
 
Eastbound #59 buses will travel over the regular route along 61st Street to Woodlawn then will operate via Woodlawn, 60th Street to Dorchester and then resume the regular route.
 
Westbound #59 buses will travel over the regular route along 60th Street past Dorchester to Woodlawn then will operate via Woodlawn to 61st Street and then resume the regular route.
 

Bus Service to Montrose Beach Temporarily Unavailable Early Sunday Morning

From 7 a.m. until approximately 9 a.m. Sunday, July 17, #78 Montrose buses temporarily will be unable to serve the beach due to the closure of Simonds Drive between Montrose and Wilson for the Fleet Feet Sports Women’s 5K & 10K event. Eastbound buses will only operate to Montrose/Marine before turning to begin westbound service. Service to the beach will resume upon completion of the event.
 

Temporary Reroute of Northbound #82 Kimball/Homan Buses Next Week

From 6 a.m. Monday, July 18 until approximately 3 p.m. Thursday, July 21, northbound #82 Kimball/Homan buses will be detoured due to the closure of Kimball Avenue between Armitage and Fullerton for a Water Department project.
 
Northbound #82 buses will operate over the regular route along Kimball to Armitage then will travel via Armitage, Kedzie, Fullerton to Kimball and then resume the regular route. Southbound #82 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Water Department Project on Madison Detours Two Westbound Routes

Westbound #19 United Center Express and #20 Madison buses are currently being rerouted due to Stage II work of the Wacker Drive project. However, effective at 6 a.m. Monday, July 18 until approximately 6 a.m. Monday, September 12, westbound #19 and #20 buses will undergo a new reroute due to a Water Department project on Madison between LaSalle and Franklin that is expected to result in heavy traffic congestion.
 
Westbound #19 and #20 buses will instead travel along Madison to LaSalle then will operate via LaSalle, Randolph, Clinton to Madison and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #19 and #20 buses are not affected and will travel over their regular routes.
 

Sewer Construction Project at 63rd Street/Damen Detours Two Routes

From 9 a.m. Monday, July 18 until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, August 5, southbound #48 South Damen and westbound #63 63rd buses will be detoured due to the closure of the intersection at 63rd Street/Damen for a sewer construction project.
 
Southbound #48 buses will operate over the regular route along 59th Street to Damen then will travel via Damen, Ashland, 67th Street to Damen and then resume the regular route. Northbound #48 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
Westbound #63 buses will travel over the regular route along 63rd Street to Ashland then will operate via Ashland, 67th Street, Western to 63rd Street and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #63 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Changes to Bus Stops Effective Tuesday, July 19

The following bus stop changes will go into effect at the start of service on Tuesday, July 19. Routes affected by these changes are: #8 Halsted, #29 State, #52 Kedzie/California, #129 West Loop/South Loop, #130 Museum Campus and #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express.
 
Affecting #8 Buses
  • Halsted/37th Street: the southbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
 
Affecting #29, #129, #130 and #146 Buses
  • State/9th Street: the southbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
 
Affecting #52 Buses
  • Kedzie/Walnut: the southbound and northbound stops will be removed from service.
  • Kedzie/Washington: the southbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
  • Kedzie/Warren: the southbound and northbound stops will be removed from service.
  • Kedzie/Adams: the northbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
  • Kedzie/Monroe: the northbound stop will be removed from service.
 

Bus Stop Changes Effective Wednesday, July 20

The following bus stop changes will go into effect at the start of service on Wednesday, July 20. Routes affected by these changes are: #3 King Drive, #20 Madison, #66 Chicago, #126 Jackson and #157 Streeterville/Taylor.
 
#3 King Drive
  • Fairbanks/Superior: the northbound and southbound stops will be removed from service.
 
#20 Madison
  • Madison/Washtenaw: the eastbound far side stop will be relocated to a near side stop. The westbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
  • Madison/Talsman: eastbound buses will begin serving the new near side stop. Westbound buses will begin serving the new far side stop.
  • Madison/Oakley: the eastbound and westbound near side stops will be relocated to far side stops.
  • Madison/Leavitt: the westbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
 
#66 Chicago
  • Fairbanks/Superior: the eastbound and westbound stops will be removed from service.
  • Fairbanks/Ontario: the eastbound and westbound stops will be removed from service.
 
#126 Jackson
  • Van Buren/Paulina: the westbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
 
#157 Streeterville/Taylor
  • Fairbanks/Superior: the eastbound and westbound stops will be removed from service.
  • Fairbanks/Ontario: the westbound stop will be removed from service.
 

Changes to Bus Stops Effective Thursday, July 21

The following bus stop changes will go into effect at the start of service on Thursday, July 21. Routes affected by these changes are: #9 Ashland, #80 Irving Park, #81 Lawrence, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express and #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express.
 
#9 Ashland and #80 Irving Park
  • Irving Park/Janssen: the northbound and southbound stops will be removed from service.
 
#81 Lawrence
  • Lawrence/Leavitt: the eastbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
  • Lawrence/Wolcott: the eastbound and westbound near side stops will be relocated to far side stops.
  • Lawrence/Hermitage: the eastbound stop will be removed from service.
  • Lawrence/Ashland: the westbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
  • Lawrence/Paulina: the westbound stop will be removed from service.
  • Lawrence/Damen: the westbound near side will be relocated to a far side stop.
  • Lawrence/Oakley: the westbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
 
#145 Wilson/Michigan Express and #148 Clarendon/Michigan Express
  • Lawrence/Paulina: the northbound stop will be removed from service.
 

Changes to Bus Stops Effective Friday, July 22

Effective at the start of service on Friday, July 22, the following bus stop changes will be made along the #49 Western, #50 Damen, #78 Montrose and #152 Addison routes.
 
#49 Western
  • Western/Sunnyside: the southbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
  • Western/Grace: the southbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
 
#50 Damen
  • Damen/Lincoln: the southbound and northbound near side stops will be relocated to far side stops.
 
#78 Montrose
  • Montrose/Western: the eastbound near side stop will be relocated to a far side stop.
  • Montrose/Damen: the eastbound and westbound near side stops will be relocated to far side stops.
 
#152 Addison
  • Addison/Inner Lake Shore Drive: eastbound buses will begin serving the new stop located approximately 150 feet east of Inner Lake Shore Drive.
  • Inner Lake Shore Drive/Addison: the eastbound far side stop will be removed from service.
 

Ongoing Bus Service Changes

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at LaSalle/Madison

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Thursday, July 21, the southbound far side stop at LaSalle/Madison has been temporarily relocated approximately 100 feet north of the intersection. This stop is served by #134 Stockton/LaSalle Express, #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express, #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express and #156 LaSalle buses.
 

Sewer Installation Project Detours #53 Pulaski Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 3:30 p.m. Friday, July 22, #53 Pulaski buses are being detoured due to the closure of Pulaski Road between Addison and Avondale for a sewer installation project.
 
Northbound #53 buses are traveling over the regular route along Pulaski to Addison then operating via Addison, Avondale to Pulaski and resuming the regular route. Southbound #53 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Repairs to Bridge Detour #111 Pullman/111th/115th Buses

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Friday, September 30, #111 Pullman/111th/115th buses are being detoured from Cottage Grove between 98th Street and 100th Place due to bridge repair work.
 
Southbound #111 buses are traveling over the regular route along 95th Street to King Drive then operating via King Drive, 100th Street to Cottage Grove and resuming the regular route. Northbound #111 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

#36 Broadway and #70 Division Buses Detoured on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 29, #36 Broadway and #70 Division buses will be detoured due to the closure of Division Street between State and Clark for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Construction Detours #20 Madison and #90 Harlem Buses Until December

Currently in effect until Friday, December 2, eastbound #20 Madison (Owl service) buses and #90 Harlem buses are being detoured due to the closure of North Boulevard and South Boulevard between Marion and Home for a construction project.
 
Eastbound #20 (Owl service) buses are operating over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are traveling via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Lake and resuming the regular route. Westbound #20 (Owl service) buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
Southbound #90 buses are traveling over the regular route along Harlem past North Boulevard to Washington then are operating via Washington, Maple, Randolph, Harlem to Harlem/South Boulevard before beginning northbound service. From Harlem/South Boulevard, northbound #90 buses are traveling north on Harlem over the regular route.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #36 Broadway Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State and Grand, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses are being detoured to adjacent streets until further notice.
 
Southbound #29 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then traveling via Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #29 buses are traveling along the remaining open lane along State and over the regular route.
 
Southbound #36 buses are traveling over the regular route along State to Ontario then are operating via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and resuming the regular route. Northbound #36 buses are operating over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then traveling via Ohio to State and resuming the regular route.
 

Changes in Service along #8 Halsted Route for Bridge Reconstruction Project

Currently in effect until late-December 2011, Halsted Street between Division and the north branch of the Chicago River is closed due to a bridge reconstruction project.
 
Northbound #8 Halsted buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted past Chicago to North Branch then are operating via North Branch, Cherry, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
Changes to Bus Stops
  • Halsted/North Branch: the northbound far side stop on Halsted has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop on North Branch at Halsted.
  • Halsted/Division: the southbound far side stop has been temporarily relocated to a near side stop.
 

Service Changes to 14 Downtown Bus Routes for Stage II of Wacker Drive Project

Currently in effect, changes in service have been made to 14 CTA bus routes that operate in the downtown area near Wacker Drive and Madison due to work associated with Stage II of the Wacker Drive construction project.
 
Construction on Wacker Drive will result in changes along the following routes: 
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick (bus stops only)
#121 Union/Wacker Express
#14 Jeffery Express
#122 Illinois Center/Ogilvie Express
#19 United Center Express
#123 Illinois Center/Union Express
#20 Madison
#124 Navy Pier
#56 Milwaukee
#125 Water Tower Express
#60 Blue Island/26th
#129 West Loop/South Loop
#120 Ogilvie/Wacker Express
#157 Streeterville/Taylor

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
