Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of December 30-January 1

NOTE: All CTA bus and rail service will operate on a regular Saturday Schedule on Saturday, December 31 – New Year’s Eve. A Sunday/Holiday schedule will be in effect on Sunday, January 1 – New Year’s Day and Monday, January 2.
 

CTA Continues its “Penny” Rides Tradition for New Year’s Eve Revelers

People headed out to holiday celebrations on New Year’s Eve are being encouraged to take advantage of the convenience of CTA bus and rail service. CTA will once again provide rides on all CTA buses and trains for one penny, beginning at 10 p.m. on Saturday, December 31 until 4 a.m. Sunday, January 1. In addition, extended service hours will be provided on several bus and rail routes.

Brown Line – Events Affecting Service

Daytime Closure of Main Entrance to the Chicago Station Next Week

The Chicago Avenue entrance/exit to the southbound (to the Loop) platform of the Chicago Brown Line station will be temporarily closed from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, January 3 through Friday, January 6, while crews replace platform decking.
 
During these times, customers will be directed to access the Chicago station using the auxiliary entrance located along Superior Street.
 

Special Event Service Details

CTA Service to the Airports

CTA service to both major Chicago airports provides holiday travelers with reliable and economical transportation. To accommodate the increase in customers traveling to the airports, CTA will operate longer trains on the Brown and Orange lines beginning in the early afternoon hours on Friday, December 30.

Holiday Hours in Effect on #10 Museum of Science & Industry Bus Route

Hours of operation along the #10 Museum of Science & Industry route have been adjusted to accommodate the extended hours at the Museum of Science & Industry.
 
The museum is open from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. each day until Saturday,
December 31.
  
During this time, service on the #10 will begin operating from Chestnut/Mies van der Rohe each morning approximately 30 minutes prior to the Museum of Science & Industry opening and the last bus departs from the museum approximately 30 minutes after closing.
 

#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming Events at the United Center

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express for those attending the following events at the United Center this weekend and next week:
 
  • Friday, December 30 at 7:30 p.m. – Detroit Red Wings versus Blackhawks
  • Sunday, January 1 at 7 p.m. – Memphis Grizzlies versus Bulls
  • Monday, January 2 at 7 p.m. – Edmonton Oilers versus Blackhawks
  • Tuesday, January 3 at 7 p.m. – Atlanta Hawks versus Bulls
  • Friday, January 6 at 7:30 p.m. – Colorado Avalanche versus Blackhawks
 
Buses will leave every 12-15 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of each event. After each event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3 and will depart approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
Temporary Changes in Service for #19 Buses
Due to the closure of some downtown streets for Stage II of the Wacker Drive construction project, the following service changes are in effect along the #19 route:
 
Eastbound #19 buses are no longer being rerouted and have resumed traveling east on Washington over the regular route. The following changes have been made to bus stops served by eastbound buses:
 
  • Monroe/Canal: the temporary eastbound far side stop has been removed from service.
  • Washington/Canal: buses have resumed serving the eastbound near side stop.
  • Washington/Franklin: the eastbound near side stop has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop.
  • Washington/State: buses have resumed serving the eastbound far side stop.
 
Westbound #19 buses are being detoured and are traveling over the regular route along Madison to Franklin then operating via Franklin to Randolph and resuming the regular route. The following changes have been made to stops served by westbound buses:
 
  • Madison/Wacker: the westbound far side stop has been temporarily removed from service.
  • Madison/Clinton: the westbound near side stop has been temporarily removed from service.
  • Randolph/Wacker: buses are serving the westbound near side stop.
  • Randolph/Canal: buses are serving the westbound near side stop.
  • Randolph/Jefferson: buses are serving the new westbound near side stop.
 

New/Temporary Changes in Bus Service

UPDATE: Reroute of #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago Buses

Currently in effect and extended until approximately 3 p.m. Tuesday, January 17, #26 South Shore Express and #30 South Chicago buses are being detoured due to the closure of the 92nd Street (Ewing) Bridge over the Calumet River for bridge repair work. 
 
Southbound #26 and #30 buses are operating over their regular routes along 91st Street to Mackinaw then are traveling via Mackinaw, Harbor, South Chicago, 95th Street to Ewing and then resuming their regular routes. Northbound #26 and #30 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

Ongoing Bus Service Changes

Temporary Bus Stop Changes due to Madison Street Viaduct Project

Currently in effect until approximately 3 p.m. Saturday, December 31, the following bus stop changes are in effect due to the Madison Street viaduct project. These changes are affecting service along seven routes.
 
  • Canal/Madison: the northbound far side stop will be removed from service. This stop is served by #60 Blue Island/26th, #124 Navy Pier, #125 Water Tower Express, #129 West Loop/South Loop (PM service only), #130 Museum Campus, #132 Goose Island Express and #157 Streeterville/Taylor buses.
  • Canal/Washington: a temporary northbound near side stop will be added. This stop will be served by #132 buses.
 

Service Changes to 14 Downtown Bus Routes for Stage II of Wacker Drive Project

Currently in effect, changes in service have been made to 14 CTA bus routes that operate in the downtown area near Wacker Drive and Madison due to work associated with Stage II of the Wacker Drive construction project.
 
 Construction on Wacker Drive will result in changes along the following routes:

#121 Union/Wacker Express
#14 Jeffery Express
#122 Illinois Center/Ogilvie Express
#19 United Center Express
#123 Illinois Center/Union Express
#20 Madison
#124 Navy Pier

Temporary Reroute in Effect for #24 Wentworth Buses Operating to 87th/Racine

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, #24 Wentworth buses operating to 87th/Racine are being detoured due to the closure of Vincennes Avenue between 84th Street and Givins for sewer repair work.
 
Southbound #24 buses (operating to 87th/Racine) are traveling over the regular route along Vincennes to 83rd Street then are operating via 83rd Street, Princeton, Holland, 87th Street and are resuming the regular route west on 87th Street past Vincennes. Northbound #24 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 

#8 Halsted and #132 Goose Island Express Buses Detoured for Bridge Work

Currently in effect until approximately 6 p.m. Monday, April 30, #8 Halsted and #132 Goose Island Express buses are being detoured due to the closure of the North Halsted Bridge over the north branch of the Chicago River for repair work.
 
Northbound #8 buses are traveling over the regular route along Halsted to Chicago then are operating via Chicago, Larrabee, Division to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Southbound #8 buses are traveling the reverse route.
 
Southbound #132 buses are operating over the regular route along North Branch to Division then are traveling via Division, Larrabee, Chicago to Halsted and then resuming the regular route. Northbound #132 buses are operating over the regular route along Halsted to Chicago then are traveling via Chicago, Larrabee, Division to Cherry and then resuming the regular route.

 

Service Adjustments Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project

Due to the Congress/Wacker Construction Project, Franklin Street between Harrison and Van Buren and Lower Wacker Drive between Randolph and Harrison are closed until May 2012. As a result of these closures and other street reconfigurations, the following changes in bus service currently are in effect: 
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Northbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses are traveling over the regular route along Harrison to Canal then are operating via Canal, Jackson to Franklin and resuming the regular route. Southbound #11 buses are not affected and are traveling over the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes also have been made to bus stops served by northbound #11 buses:
 
  • Canal/Harrison: a far side stop has been added to service.
  • Canal/Jackson: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Jackson at the Chicago River: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • 404 W. Harrison: the mid-block stop has been removed from service.
  • Franklin/Van Buren: the far side stop has been removed from service.
 
#121 Union/Wacker Express
Northbound #121 Union/Wacker Express buses are operating over the regular route along Jackson past Wacker to Franklin then are traveling via Franklin, Lake, Post Place to Lower Wacker and then resuming the regular route.
 
Southbound #121 buses are operating over the regular route along Grand to Wabash then traveling via Wabash, Wacker, Franklin to Adams and then resuming the regular route.
 
#135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #135 Clarendon/LaSalle Express buses are traveling south on Wacker to Jackson then are traveling east on Jackson past Franklin and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #135 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express
From Union Station, northbound #136 Sheridan/LaSalle Express buses are operating south on Wacker to Van Buren then are traveling via Van Buren, Canal to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary changes have been made to bus stops served by northbound #136 buses:
 
  • Jackson/Franklin: a near side stop has been added to service.
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 
#156 LaSalle (PM Service Only)
During the evening rush period only, northbound #156 LaSalle buses departing from Union Station are traveling west on Van Buren to Wacker then are operating via Wacker to Jackson and resuming the regular route.
 
The following temporary bus stop change has been made and is in effect for northbound #156 buses during the evening rush period only: 
 
  • Franklin/Jackson: the near side stop has been removed from service.
 

Temporary Removal of #29 State Bus Stop at State/Pershing

Currently in effect until Friday, June 1, the southbound far side stop at State/Pershing has been removed from service due to nearby construction work. Customers are advised to board southbound #29 buses one block south at 40th Street.
 

Temporary Removal of Bus Stop at Archer/Cicero

Currently in effect until approximately 4 p.m. Monday, June 6, the southbound far side bus stop at Archer/Cicero will be temporarily removed from service due to the demolition of a nearby building. This stop is currently served by #62 Archer and #62H Archer/Harlem buses.
 
During this time, customers can board southbound #62 buses at the existing near side stop at Archer/Cicero. Southbound #62H buses will serve the existing stop located at Archer/Lamon.
 

Temporary Relocation of Bus Stop at Lake Park/53rd Street

Currently in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Lake Park/53rd Street has been temporarily relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction work. This stop is served by #6 Jackson Park Express, #X28 Stony Island Express and #171 U of C/Hyde Park buses.
 

Relocation of #36 Broadway Bus Stop Due to Nearby Construction

Currently in effect until Friday, July 12, 2013, the southbound near side stop at Broadway/Elmdale served by #36 Broadway buses has been relocated to a far side stop due to nearby construction.
 

Removal of Bus Stop Change Affects Five Routes

Currently in effect until Thursday, August 1, 2013, the mid-block bus stop located at 5800 South on Stony Island has been temporarily removed due to construction. This stop is served by the #2 Hyde Park Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #15 Jeffery Local, #28 Stony Island and #X28 Stony Island buses.
