Blue Line – Slow Zone Work

Rail Service Temporarily Suspended in the Dearborn Subway This Weekend

From 10 p.m. Friday August 28 until 4 a.m. Monday, August 31, service on the Blue Line between the Western/Milwaukee and Washington stations temporarily will be suspended this weekend as work continues in the Dearborn subway to reduce slow zones.
 
Bus shuttles will operate as a substitute for rail service making stops at Western/Milwaukee, Damen, Division, Chicago, Grand, adjacent to Clark/Lake (southbound buses on Clark and northbound buses on Dearborn/LaSalle), Washington, Monroe and Jackson.
 
The Western/Milwaukee and Jackson stations are accessible to customers with disabilities.

Eastbound Trains Undergo Single Track between UIC-Halsted and LaSalle Early Monday Morning

A single track will be in effect for eastbound Blue Line trains between the UIC-Halsted and LaSalle stations on the Forest Park branch from 12:01 a.m. until 2 a.m. on Monday, August 31. During this time, construction crews will be moving equipment in preparation for the next phase of the Dearborn Subway project.
 
Eastbound Blue Line customers at the UIC-Halsted, Clinton and LaSalle stations must board and exit trains from the westbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Slow Zone Work

Red Line Trains Rerouted at Sheridan Next Week

A daytime reroute will be in effect for Red Line trains operating in both directions at the Sheridan station from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, September 1 through Friday, September 4, while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
 
During these times, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

Northbound Red Line Trains to Bypass Morse and Jarvis Stations on Saturday

Due to track maintenance work, northbound Red Line trains temporarily will be unable to stop at the Morse and Jarvis stations from 6 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 29.
 
During this time, northbound Red Line customers who want to exit at Morse and Jarvis should exit at Howard and board a southbound train to the appropriate station. Customers at Morse and Jarvis who want to travel northbound should board a southbound train to Loyola to access a northbound train.
 
Southbound Red Line service between Howard and Loyola is not affected.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Eastbound Blue Line Trains Operating on a Single Track at the Oak Park Station

On four nights next week, eastbound Blue Line trains on the Forest Park branch will be operating on a single track at the Oak Park station from 9 p.m. each night until 4 a.m. the following morning beginning Monday night, August 31 through Friday morning, September 4.
 
Eastbound customers at the Oak Park station must board and exit trains from the westbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red/Brown Lines – Other Events Affecting Service

Red and Brown Line Trains Rerouted at Fullerton This Weekend

Due to work on the canopies at the Fullerton station, northbound Red and Brown line trains temporarily will be rerouted to operate on the southbound tracks from 9 p.m. Friday, August 28 until 9 a.m. the following morning and then again from 11 p.m. Saturday, August 29 until 11 a.m. the following morning.
 
Northbound Red and Brown line customers at the Fullerton station must board and exit trains from the southbound Red Line side of the platform. Southbound Red Line customers must board and exit trains from the southbound Brown Line side of the platform.
 
During this time, northbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at Diversey and Wellington. Northbound Brown Line customers who want to exit at Diversey or Wellington should ride to Belmont and transfer to a southbound train to their respective station. Customers at Diversey and Wellington who want to travel north should take a southbound train to Fullerton and transfer to a northbound train.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the route and direction of each train.
 

New Belmont Station Entrance Opens Saturday Evening

On Saturday evening, August 29, CTA customers entering and exiting the Belmont station served by the Red, Brown and Purple lines will begin using the new permanent station entrance located approximately 75 feet west of the existing temporary entrance.
 
The temporary entrance was opened in December 2006 to allow crews to relocate the historic stationhouse to the north side of Belmont Avenue and build the new station in its place.
 
While CTA personnel relocate equipment to the permanent station entrance Saturday morning, mobile fare boxes will be available in the temporary entrance to ensure continued access to the station.
 
Construction work associated with the Brown Line capacity expansion project will continue at Belmont and in the new stationhouse until later this year. At which time, the Belmont station will be fully accessible to customers with disabilities. 
 

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Bus Stop at Clark/Lake Temporarily Relocated

Due to emergency façade repair work at the James R. Thompson Center, the southbound stop at Clark/Lake temporarily will be relocated approximately 100 feet south to a mid-block stop on Clark between Lake and Randolph. This stop is served by #22 Clark and #24 Wentworth buses.
 

Changes to Bus Stops along the #201 Central/Ridge Route

Currently in effect, the following changes have been made to bus stops along the #201 Central/Ridge route:
 
  • Chicago/Sheridan: the northbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop at Sheridan/Emerson.
  • Sheridan/Chicago: the southbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
  • Sheridan/Foster: the northbound and southbound near side stops have been relocated to far side stops.
  • Sheridan/Noyes: the northbound near side stop has been relocated to a mid-block stop in front of the Technical Institute. The southbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
  • Sheridan/Lincoln: the northbound near side stop has been relocated to a mid-block stop in front of Patten Gym. The southbound near side stop has been relocated to a far side stop.
 

Temporary Change in Routing for #60 Blue Island/26th Buses

Currently in effect until 5 p.m. Friday, October 16, eastbound #60 Blue Island/26th buses only will travel to Randolph/Field, instead of Randolph/Harbor, before turning to begin westbound service. This change in routing is due to reconstruction of a nearby driveway. Westbound #60 buses will travel over the regular route.
 

Bridge Reconstruction Work Detours Westbound #96 Lunt Buses

Currently in effect until 6 a.m. Monday, October 26, Touhy Avenue will be closed between Kedzie and McCormick due to bridge reconstruction work. 
 
Westbound #96 Lunt buses will travel over the regular route along Touhy to Kedzie then will operate via Kedzie, Howard to McCormick and then will resume the regular route south of Touhy. Eastbound #96 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

UPDATE: Reroute Continues for Northbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland Buses

Currently in effect until 5 a.m. Monday, September 28, northbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland buses will be detoured due to street repairs at the intersection of Montrose/Narragansett. As a result of this detour, northbound #86 buses will not make stops on the Wright College Campus.
 
Northbound #86 buses will travel over the regular route along Narragansett past Wright College Drive to Montrose where they will make a near side service stop. From Narragansett/Montrose, buses will continue north along Narragansett over the regular route. Southbound #86 buses will travel over the regular route.
 

Temporary Bus Stop Changes Due to Street Repairs on Fullerton

Currently in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 22, the following changes have been made to bus stops currently served by #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick and #74 Fullerton buses due to street reconstruction work near the Fullerton Red/Brown/Purple line station:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
  • Fullerton Avenue/CTA Station: the far side stop in front of the station house served by southbound #11 buses has been relocated to a mid-block stop on Sheffield between Montana and Fullerton.
  • Fullerton/Sheffield: the near side stop served by northbound #11 buses has been relocated to a mid-block stop on Sheffield between Fullerton and Montana.
 
#74 Fullerton
  • Fullerton Avenue/CTA Station: the far side stop in front of the station house served by eastbound #74 buses has been relocated to a near side stop on Fullerton at Sheffield.
  • Fullerton/Sheffield: the near side stop served by westbound #74 buses has been relocated to a far side stop.
 

Construction Work at the Fullerton Station Detours #11 and #74 Buses

Due to work associated with the Brown Line capacity expansion project, Fullerton Avenue at the Red/Brown Line station will be closed to all traffic from 11 p.m. Saturday, August 29 until 9 a.m. the following morning.
 
Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses will operate over the regular route along Lincoln past Sheffield to Fullerton where they will make a near side service stop and then will continue southeast on Lincoln over the regular route.
 
Northbound #11 buses will travel over the regular route along Lincoln to Fullerton where they will make a far side stop then will continue northwest along Lincoln and resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #74 Fullerton buses will travel over the regular route along Fullerton to Sheffield where they will make a near side service stop. Buses will travel south on Sheffield to Webster then will operate via Webster, Lincoln, Sheffield to Fullerton.
 
Westbound service along the #74 route will begin at Fullerton/Sheffield and buses will continue west on Fullerton over the regular route.
 

#52 Kedzie/California Buses Detoured for Taste of Romania Festival

California Avenue will be closed between Roscoe and Addison from 4 a.m. Saturday, August 29 until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, August 30, due to the annual Taste of Romania Festival.
 
Northbound #52 Kedzie/California buses will operate over the regular route along California to Diversey then will travel via Diversey, Sacramento, Belmont, Elston to California. From California/Elston, #52 buses will begin southbound service and will operate over the regular route.
 

Taste of Greece Festival Detours #8 Halsted and #126 Jackson Buses

From 4 a.m. Saturday, August 29 until 11 p.m. Sunday, August 30, Halsted Street will be closed between Monroe and Van Buren for the annual Taste of Greece Festival.
 
Northbound #8 Halsted buses will operate over the regular route along Halsted to Harrison then will travel via Harrison, Jefferson, Madison to Halsted and then resume the regular route.
 
Southbound #8 buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted to Madison then will operate via Madison, Desplaines, Harrison to Halsted and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #126 Jackson buses will operate over the regular route along Jackson to Morgan then will travel via Morgan, Van Buren, Jefferson to Jackson and then resume the regular route. Westbound #126 buses will travel over the regular route.
 

#78 Montrose Buses Rerouted Saturday Morning

On Saturday, August 29 from 6 a.m. until noon, Simmonds Drive will be closed between Montrose and Wilson due to the McDonald’s Kids/Fleet Feet Sports Triathlon.
 
Eastbound #78 Montrose buses only will travel as far east as Wilson/Marine before traveling south on Marine to Montrose to begin westbound service. Westbound #78 buses will travel over the regular route.
 

International Marcus Garvey Parade Detours Four Routes on Saturday Morning

The International Marcus Garvey Parade will be held on Saturday, August 29 from 10 a.m. until noon. During this time, buses operating along the #4 Cottage Grove, #29 State, #75 74th/75th and #79 79th routes will be subject to intermittent reroutes at which time buses will be temporarily detoured to adjacent streets.
 
Parade participants will assemble at Cottage Grove/76th Street and proceed south to 79th Street, west on 79th Street to State, north on State to 75th Street, east on 75th Street to Cottage Grove, south on Cottage Grove to 76th Street and disband.
 

Three Routes Detoured for the Chicago Triathlon This Weekend

Beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 29 until 7 p.m. Sunday, August 30, Columbus Drive between Roosevelt and Balbo will be closed for the setup of the Chicago Triathlon. The event steps off at 6 a.m. on Sunday.
 
Northbound #6 Jackson Park Express, #10 Museum of Science & Industry and #14 Jeffery Express buses will travel over their regular routes along Columbus to Roosevelt then will operate via Roosevelt to Michigan and resume their regular routes.
 
Southbound #6, #10 and #14 buses will operate via Michigan, Roosevelt to Columbus and then will resume their regular routes.
 

Ferrari’s in the Loop Event Detours #14 Jeffery Express Buses on Sunday

From 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, Monroe Street will be closed between Clark and Dearborn due to the Ferrari’s in the Loop event.
 
Southbound #14 Jeffery Express buses will travel over the regular route along Monroe to LaSalle then will operate via LaSalle, Washington, State to Monroe and then resume the regular route. Northbound buses will travel over the regular route.
 

Reinstatement of #29 State Bus Stops

Effective with the start of service on Monday, August 31, the northbound near side and southbound far side stops at State/Pershing served by #29 State buses will be reinstated. These bus stops were temporarily removed from service due to a water main replacement project.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

Railroad Crossing Repairs Detour #100 Jeffery Manor Express Buses

Due to railroad crossing repairs, 106th Street between Torrence and Muskegon is closed to all traffic until 5 p.m. Friday, August 28.
 
Eastbound #100 Jeffery Manor Express buses will travel over the regular route along Torrence to 104th Street then will operate via 104th Street, Muskegon to 106th Street and then resume the regular route. Westbound buses will travel the reverse route.
 

#24 Wentworth Buses Rerouted on Vincennes Avenue

Vincennes Avenue between 83rd Street and 84th Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic for bridge replacement work from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily until Friday, September 4.
 
Northbound #24 buses will travel over the regular route to 87th/Vincennes then will operate northeast on Vincennes, Summit, Halsted, 81st to Vincennes and then resume the regular route. Southbound buses will operate the reverse route.
 

Westbound Lanes of Division Street Bridge Closed for Repairs

The westbound lanes of the Division Street Bridge over the north branch of the Chicago River, between Halsted and Hooker, are closed to all traffic until 5 p.m. Friday, September 18, due to repair work.
 
Westbound #70 Division buses will operate over the regular route along Division to Larrabee then will travel via Larrabee, Chicago, Milwaukee, Elston to Division and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
Southbound #132 Goose Island Express buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted past Division to North Branch Street then will operate via North Branch, Cherry to Division and then resume the regular route. Northbound #132 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Construction Temporarily Detours #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland Buses

Due to construction work at the northeast corner of South Boulevard and Ridgeland, southbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland buses are temporarily detoured on weekdays only between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. until further notice.
 
Southbound #86 buses will operate over the regular route along Lake Street past Lombard to Austin then will travel via Austin, Washington, Ridgeland to the intersection of Ridgeland/South Boulevard and will make a near side service stop before beginning northbound service. Northbound #86 buses will continue north on Ridgeland over the regular route.
 

#75 74th/75th Bus Stop Changes

Due to sewer construction work, the eastbound and westbound bus stops at 75th Street/Indiana, served by #75 74th/75th buses, temporarily will be removed from service until further notice.
 
Eastbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Prairie or 75th Street/Michigan.
 
Westbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Michigan or 75th Street/Prairie.
 

Sewer Repair Work Reroutes #95E 93rd/95th and #N5 South Shore Night Buses

Due to sewer construction work, 93rd Street between Muskegon and Escanaba/Anthony/Exchange will be closed to all traffic until further notice.
 
Eastbound #95E 93rd/95th and northbound #N5 South Shore Night buses will travel over their regular routes along 93rd Street to Colfax then will operate via Colfax, 95th Street, Escanaba to 93rd Street/Anthony/Exchange and then will travel northeast on Exchange over their regular routes. Westbound #95E and southbound #N5 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Sewer Construction Detours #75 74th/75th Buses until Early September

Due to sewer construction work, 75th Street between King Drive and Indiana Avenue will be closed to all traffic until Friday, September 4.
 
Eastbound #75 74th/75th buses will operate over the regular route along 75th Street to Indiana then will travel via Indiana, 76th Street, King Drive to 75th Street and then resume the regular route.
 
Westbound #75 buses will travel via 75th Street to King Drive then will operate via King Drive, 76th Street, Michigan to 75th Street and then resume the regular route.
 

Temporary Bus Stop Relocation along the #62 Archer Route

Currently in effect until Friday, September 4, the northbound near side stop at Archer/Kildare served by #62 Archer buses temporarily is relocated to a far side stop due to construction work.
 

Temporary Relocation of #8 Halsted Bus Stop

The southbound far side stop at Halsted/North Branch served by #8 Halsted buses temporarily will be relocated to a near side stop until Thursday, October 1. This bus stop is being relocated due to a traffic signal installation project.
 

Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 31, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 Division buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Buses Rerouted Due to Construction on Milwaukee Avenue

Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will be rerouted until Monday, November 30, due to construction on Milwaukee Avenue between Gale and Montrose.
 
Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will travel over their regular routes to Lawrence/Milwaukee to a far side stop then will continue eastbound on Lawrence to Lipps, heading north on Lipps to enter the Jefferson Park bus terminal. 
 
Westbound #81W and southbound #91 buses are not affected and will travel along their regular routes.
 

Reconstruction of LaSalle Street Bridge Detours Northbound #24 Wentworth Buses

LaSalle Street between 28th and 26th streets will be closed to all traffic until early-January 2010, due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge. Northbound #24 Wentworth buses will operate over the regular route along LaSalle to 31st Street then will travel via 31st Street, State, 26th Street to Wentworth and then resume the regular route. Southbound #24 buses will travel over the regular route.
 

Changes to #24 Wentworth Bus Stops

Due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge, the following changes will be made to bus stops served by #24 Wentworth buses:
 
  • LaSalle/31st Street: the northbound far side stop will be relocated to a near side stop.
  • Wentworth/26th Street: the northbound near side stop will be relocated to a westbound near side stop at 26th Street/Wentworth.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #65 Grand Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses will be detoured to adjacent streets. These changes in service are expected to remain in place until April 2010.
 
Southbound #29 State buses will operate over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then will travel via Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #29 buses will be able to travel on the remaining open lane along State and will operate over its regular route. 
 
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along State to Ontario then will operate via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then will travel via Ohio to State and then resume the regular route.
 

14 CTA Bus Routes Affected Due to Jackson Viaduct Work

Due to the reconstruction of the Jackson Boulevard viaduct between Canal and Wacker, changes in service along 14 CTA bus routes are expected to remain in place until April 2010. The following CTA bus routes are being rerouted to adjacent streets:
