Blue Line – Slow Zone Work

No Construction Work in Dearborn Subway this Weekend

CTA’s Blue Line will operate over its normal route through the Dearborn Subway this weekend. 
 
Construction work in the Dearborn Subway is scheduled to resume next weekend. 
 
Work in the subway has occurred on previous weekend as crews worked to replace deteriorated wooden half ties with concrete half ties, and replace running rail and contact (third) rail to remove existing slow zones and help prevent the creation of new slow zones.
 

Red Line – Slow Zone Work

Red Line Trains Rerouted at Sheridan Next Week

A daytime reroute will be in effect for Red Line trains operating in both directions at the Sheridan station from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day beginning Tuesday, August 18 through Friday, August 21, while crews replace deteriorated rail ties, tie plates and spikes.
 
During these times, northbound and southbound Red Line trains will operate on the Purple Express tracks. Customers at the Sheridan station must board and exit trains from the outer platforms instead of the inner platforms.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.
 

Blue Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Late Night Single Track in Effect between the Western and UIC-Halsted Stations

Due to signal upgrade work, westbound Blue Line trains will undergo a late night single track between the Western and UIC-Halsted stations on the Forest Park branch from 9 p.m. Monday, August 17 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
 
Westbound Blue Line customers at the Racine and Illinois Medical District stations must board and exit trains from the eastbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Single Track in Effect between the LaSalle and UIC-Halsted Stations Tuesday Night

Westbound Blue Line trains will undergo a late night single track between the UIC-Halsted and LaSalle stations from 10 p.m. Tuesday, August 18 until 4 a.m. the following morning due to signal upgrade work.
 
Westbound Blue Line customers at the LaSalle, Clinton and UIC-Halsted stations must board and exit trains from the eastbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Boarding Changes at the Austin Station on the Forest Park Branch Next Week

A late night single track will be in effect for Blue Line trains at the Austin station on the Forest Park branch from 9 p.m. Wednesday, August 19 until 4 a.m. the following morning due to signal upgrade work.
 
Eastbound Blue Line customers at the Austin station must board and exit trains from the westbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red Line – Other Events Affecting Service

Trains Undergo a Late Night Single Track at the Garfield Station Next Week

Due to track maintenance work, a late night single track will be in effect for northbound Red Line trains at the Garfield station from 11 p.m. Sunday, August 16 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again from 11 p.m. Monday, August 17 until 4 a.m. the following morning.
 
Northbound Red Line customers at the Garfield station must board and exit trains from the southbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 
Wednesday and Thursday Nights – Southbound
From 11 p.m. Wednesday, August 19 until 4 a.m. the following morning and then again from 11 p.m. Thursday, August 20 until 4 a.m. the following morning, a late night single track will be in effect for southbound Red Line trains at the Garfield station.
 
Southbound Red Line customers at the Garfield station must board and exit trains from the northbound side of the platform.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the direction of each train.
 

Red/Brown Lines – Other Events Affecting Service

Red and Brown Line Trains Rerouted at Fullerton and Belmont This Weekend

Due to work on the canopies at the Fullerton and Belmont stations, northbound Red and Brown line trains temporarily will be rerouted to operate on the southbound tracks from 9 p.m. Friday, August 14 until 7 a.m. the following morning and then again from 9 p.m. Saturday, August 15 until 7 a.m. the following morning.
 
Northbound Red and Brown line customers at the Fullerton and Belmont stations must board and exit trains from the southbound Red Line side of the platform. Southbound Red Line customers at these stations must board and exit trains from the southbound Brown Line side of the platform.
 
During this time, northbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at Diversey and Wellington. Northbound Brown Line customers who want to exit at Diversey or Wellington should ride to Belmont and transfer to a southbound train to their respective station. Customers at Diversey and Wellington who want to travel north should take a southbound train to Fullerton and transfer to a northbound train.
 
Customers are advised to allow extra travel time. CTA operators will announce the route and direction of each train.
 

Additional Service for Special Events

#19 United Center Express Serves Upcoming AC/DC Concert

CTA will operate its #19 United Center Express buses for the AC/DC concert on Friday, August 14. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

 
Buses will leave every 10 minutes from Michigan and Randolph beginning 90 minutes before the start of the event until the starting time of the event. When the event ends, #19 buses will depart the United Center approximately every 15 minutes for one hour.
 
#19 buses no longer make stops along Michigan Avenue north of Randolph, but continue to make all stops on Madison from Wabash to Clinton. From Clinton, #19 buses run express to the United Center.
 
After the event, #19 buses will await customers on the north side of the United Center eastbound on Madison near Gate 3. On the return trip, #19 buses will operate east on Washington to Wacker, then head south to Monroe and east to Michigan, making all stops from Jefferson to Michigan before turning north on Michigan and making the final stop at Randolph.
 

CTA Provides Extra Service for 51st Annual Chicago Air & Water Show

The Chicago Transit Authority is a convenient travel option for spectators heading to the Chicago Air & Water Show along the lakefront from Oak Street Beach to Fullerton on Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16. 
 
Additional bus and rail service will be provided on both days.

New/Updated Changes in Bus Service

Taste of Austin Detours #126 Jackson Buses This Weekend

Currently in effect until 10 p.m. Sunday, August 16, Jackson Boulevard between Central and Austin will be closed to all traffic due to the annual Taste of Austin event.
 
Westbound #126 Jackson buses will travel over the regular route along Jackson to Central then will operate via Central, Madison, Austin to Jackson to the terminal. Eastbound #126 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Construction Work at the Fullerton Station Detours #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick and #74 Fullerton Buses

Due to work associated with the Brown Line Capacity Expansion project, Fullerton Avenue at the Red/Brown Line station will be closed to all traffic two nights this weekend beginning at 8 p.m. each night until 8 a.m. the following morning on Friday, August 14 and then again during the same hours on Saturday, August 15.
 
Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses will operate over the regular route along Lincoln past Sheffield to Fullerton where they will make a near side service stop and then will continue southeast on Lincoln over the regular route.
 
Northbound #11 buses will travel over the regular route along Lincoln to Fullerton where they will make a far side stop then will continue northwest along Lincoln and resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #74 Fullerton buses will travel over the regular route along Fullerton to Sheffield where they will make a near side service stop. Buses will travel south on Sheffield to Webster then will operate via Webster, Lincoln, Sheffield to Fullerton.
 
Westbound service along the #74 route will begin at Fullerton/Sheffield and buses will continue west on Fullerton over the regular route.
 

Buses Rerouted Due to the Chicago Air & Water Show

Unless otherwise noted, the following CTA bus routes will be detoured from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 15 and then again during the same hours on Sunday, August 16, due to the Chicago Air & Water Show:
 
#11 Lincoln/Sedgwick
Southbound #11 Lincoln/Sedgwick buses only will operate as far south as Lincoln/Clark. Northbound #11 buses will begin service from Armitage/Lincoln and will continue north along Lincoln over the regular route.
 
#22 Clark
Southbound #22 Clark buses will travel over the regular route along Clark to LaSalle then will operate via LaSalle, Division to Clark and then resume the regular route. Northbound #22 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
#36 Broadway – Saturday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Only
Due to the street closures associated with the Near North Farmer’s Market and the Air & Water Show, southbound #36 Broadway buses will operate over the regular route along Clark to LaSalle then will travel via LaSalle, Division, Clark, Maple to State and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #36 buses will travel over the regular route along State to Elm then will operate via Elm, Clark, Division, LaSalle to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
#36 Broadway – All Other Hours
Southbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along Clark to LaSalle then will travel via LaSalle, Division to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will travel the reverse route.
 
#72 North – through Monday Afternoon
Currently in effect until 3:30 p.m. Monday, August 17, the bus terminal at North Avenue Beach will be closed to all traffic due to the Air & Water Show.
 
During this time, eastbound #72 North buses only will travel as far east as North Avenue/LaSalle before operating north on LaSalle, south on Clark to Clark/North Avenue. Westbound buses will depart from North/Clark and will travel west on North Avenue over the regular route.
 
#73 Armitage
Eastbound #73 Armitage buses only will operate as far east as Armitage/Lincoln. Westbound #73 buses will begin service on Clark at Armitage and will continue north on Clark over the regular route.
 
#151 Sheridan – Saturday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Only
Due to the street closures associated with the Near North Farmer’s Market and the Air & Water Show, southbound #151 Sheridan buses will travel over the regular route along Stockton to LaSalle then will operate via LaSalle, Oak, State, Division to Inner Lake Shore Drive and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #151 buses will operate over the regular route along Inner Lake Shore Drive to Division then will travel via Division, State, Elm, LaSalle to Stockton and then resume the regular route.
 
#151 Sheridan – All Other Hours
Southbound #151 Sheridan buses will travel over the regular route along Stockton to LaSalle then will operate via LaSalle, Division to Inner Lake Shore Drive and then resume the regular route. Northbound #151 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Seven CTA Bus Routes Detoured for the Annual Danny K. Davis Back-to-School Parade

On Saturday, August 15 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. the annual Danny K. Davis Back-to-School Parade will take place. Beginning at 8 a.m., parade participants will assemble at 5800 W. Bloomingdale. The parade will step-off at 10 a.m. and will proceed east on Bloomingdale to Central, south on Central to Madison, east on Madison to Laramie, south on Laramie to Jackson, and west on Jackson into Columbus Park.
 
During this time, #20 Madison, #57 Laramie, #66 Chicago, #70 Division, #72 North, #85 Central and #126 Jackson buses will be detoured to adjacent streets to maintain service during the procession.
 

Walk for Moral Excellence Detours #67 67th/69th/71st Buses on Saturday

On Saturday, August 15 from 10 a.m. until noon, Western Avenue between 69th Street and 71st Street, and 71st Street between Western and California will be closed to all traffic for the Walk for Moral Excellence.
 
Westbound #67 67th/69th/71st buses will travel over the regular route along 69th Street to Western then will operate via Western, 67th Street, Kedzie to 71st Street and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #67 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

#155 Devon Buses Detoured on Saturday for the India Independence Parade

From 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, Devon Avenue between California and Western will be closed for the annual India Independence parade.
 
Eastbound #155 Devon buses will operate from the Devon/Kedzie terminal south on Kedzie to Lincoln then will travel via Lincoln, Peterson, Western to Devon and then resume the regular route. Westbound #155 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Edison Park Fest Parade Temporarily Reroutes #68 Northwest Highway Buses on Saturday

Northwest Highway between Oketo and Overhill will be closed to all traffic on Saturday, August 15 from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. for the Edison Park Fest Parade.
 
Northbound #68 Northwest Highway buses will travel over the regular route along Northwest Highway to Devon then will operate via Devon, Canfield, Ozark to Northwest Highway and then resume the regular route. Southbound #68 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Altgeld Gardens Reunion Picnic Detours #34 South Michigan Buses on Sunday

On Sunday, August 16 from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. 133rd Place between Langley and Dobson will be closed to all traffic due to the Altgeld Gardens Reunion Picnic.
 
Southbound #34 South Michigan buses only will travel as far south as 132nd Place and Ellis. Northbound #34 buses will begin service on 131st Street at Langley and will continue west on 131st Street over the regular route.
 

Pakistan Independence Parade Reroutes #155 Devon Buses on Sunday

On Sunday, August 16 from noon until 3:30 p.m., Devon Avenue between Damen and Western will be closed for the annual Pakistan Independence parade.
 
Eastbound #155 Devon buses will operate over the regular route along Devon to California then will travel via California, Lunt, Ridge to Devon and then resume the regular route. Westbound #155 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

#38 Ogden/Taylor Buses Detoured for the We Are Here Day Festival

Polk Street between Ogden and Damen will be closed to all traffic from 5 p.m. Sunday, August 16 until 5 p.m. Monday, August 17 for the We Are Here Day festival.
 
Instead of turning east on Polk from Ogden, eastbound #38 Ogden/Taylor buses will operate over the regular route along Ogden past Polk to Damen then will travel south on Damen to Polk and east on Polk over the regular route. Westbound #38 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Railroad Crossing Repairs Detour #100 Jeffery Manor Express Buses

From 7 a.m. Monday, August 17 until 5 p.m. Friday, August 28, 106th Street between Torrence and Muskegon will be closed to all traffic due to railroad crossing repairs.
 
Eastbound #100 Jeffery Manor Express buses will travel over the regular route along Torrence to 104th Street then will operate via 104th Street, Muskegon to 106th Street and then resume the regular route. Westbound buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Changes in Routing and Bus Stops for #2 Hyde Park Express and #10 Museum of Science & Industry Buses Effective Tuesday

To help improve service, changes will be made to the routing of northbound #2 Hyde Park Express and #10 Museum of Science & Industry buses effective at the start of service on Tuesday, August 18.
 
Northbound #2 and #10 buses will travel over their regular routes along State Street to Wacker Drive then will operate via Wacker Drive, Wacker Place to Michigan and then will travel north on Michigan over the regular route.
 
As a result of this new routing, northbound #2 and #10 buses also will begin serving the following locations:
 
  • Near side on Wacker Place at Wabash
  • Near side on Michigan and Wacker
 

Westbound Lanes of Division Street Bridge Closed for Repairs

From 8 a.m. Tuesday, August 18 until 5 p.m. Friday, September 18, the westbound lanes of the Division Street Bridge over the North Branch of the Chicago River, between Halsted and Hooker, will be closed to all traffic due to repair work.
 
Westbound #70 Division buses will operate over the regular route along Division to Larrabee then will travel via Larrabee, Chicago, Milwaukee, Elston to Division and then resume the regular route. Eastbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 
Southbound #132 Goose Island Express buses will travel over the regular route along Halsted past Division to North Branch Street then will operate via North Branch, Cherry to Division and then resume the regular route. Northbound #132 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route.
 

Chicago Fire Department Back to School Rally Detours #94 South California Buses

On Wednesday, August 19 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., California at Fillmore will be closed to all traffic due to the Chicago Fire Department Back to School Rally.
 
Northbound #94 South California buses will operate over the regular route along California to Roosevelt then will travel via Roosevelt, Sacramento, Taylor to California and then resume the regular route. Southbound buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Ongoing Bus Reroutes

Construction Temporarily Detours #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland Buses

Due to construction work at the northeast corner of South Boulevard and Ridgeland, southbound #86 Narragansett/Ridgeland buses are temporarily detoured on weekdays only between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. until further notice.
 
Southbound #86 buses will operate over the regular route along Lake Street past Lombard to Austin then will travel via Austin, Washington, Ridgeland to the intersection of Ridgeland/South Boulevard and will make a near side service stop before beginning northbound service. Northbound #86 buses will continue north on Ridgeland over the regular route.
 

#75 74th/75th Bus Stop Changes

Due to sewer construction work, the eastbound and westbound bus stops at 75th Street/Indiana, served by #75 74th/75th buses, temporarily will be removed from service until further notice.
 
Eastbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Prairie or 75th Street/Michigan.
 
Westbound customers can board and exit #75 buses from the near side stops at 75th Street/Michigan or 75th Street/Prairie.
 

Sewer Repair Work Reroutes #95E 93rd/95th and #N5 South Shore Night Buses

Due to sewer construction work, 93rd Street between Muskegon and Escanaba/Anthony/Exchange will be closed to all traffic until mid-August.
 
Eastbound #95E 93rd/95th and northbound #N5 South Shore Night buses will travel over their regular routes along 93rd Street to Colfax then will operate via Colfax, 95th Street, Escanaba to 93rd Street/Anthony/Exchange and then will travel northeast on Exchange over their regular routes. Westbound #95E and southbound #N5 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Sewer Repairs Detour #44 Wallace/Racine Buses until Late August

Racine Avenue between 73rd and 72nd streets will be closed to all traffic from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily until Friday, August 21, due to sewer repair work.
 
Northbound #44 Wallace/Racine buses will travel over the regular route along Racine to 74th Street then will operate via 74th Street, Loomis, 71st Street to Racine and then resume the regular route. Southbound #44 buses will travel the reverse route.
 

Changes to #29 State Bus Stops until Late August

Due to construction work on a nearby water main, the northbound near side and the southbound far side stops at State/Pershing will be removed from service until Friday, August 21. Customers can board and exit northbound and southbound #29 buses from either State/38th Street or State/40th Street.
 

Temporary Removal of Bus Stop along the #81 Lawrence Route

Until Friday, August 21, the eastbound far side stop at Lawrence/Oakley, served by #81 Lawrence buses, temporarily will be removed from service due to construction work. Customers can board and exit at the eastbound near side stops at Lawrence/Western or Lawrence/Leavitt.
 

Sewer Construction Detours #75 74th/75th Buses until Early September

Due to sewer construction work, 75th Street between King Drive and Indiana Avenue will be closed to all traffic until Friday, September 4.
 
Eastbound #75 74th/75th buses will operate over the regular route along 75th Street to Indiana then will travel via Indiana, 76th Street, King Drive to 75th Street and then resume the regular route.
 
Westbound #75 buses will travel via 75th Street to King Drive then will operate via King Drive, 76th Street, Michigan to 75th Street and then resume the regular route.
 

Temporary Bus Stop Relocation along the #62 Archer Route

Currently in effect until Friday, September 4, the northbound near side stop at Archer/Kildare served by #62 Archer buses temporarily is relocated to a far side stop due to construction work.
 

Temporary Relocation of #8 Halsted Bus Stop

The southbound far side stop at Halsted/North Branch served by #8 Halsted buses temporarily will be relocated to a near side stop until Thursday, October 1. This bus stop is being relocated due to a traffic signal installation project.
 

Buses Rerouted on Saturdays for the Near North Farmer’s Market

From 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday through October 31, Division Street between State and Clark will be closed for the Near North Farmer’s Market.
 
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along Clark past Division to Maple then will operate via Maple to State and then resume the regular route.
 
Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along State to Elm then will travel via Elm to Clark and then resume the regular route.
 
Eastbound #70 Division buses will travel over the regular route along Division to Clark and then will operate via Clark, Maple to Dearborn and then resume the regular route. Westbound #70 buses are not affected and will travel over the regular route. 
 

Buses Rerouted Due to Construction on Milwaukee Avenue

Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will be rerouted until Monday, November 30, due to construction on Milwaukee Avenue between Gale and Montrose.
 
Eastbound #81W West Lawrence and northbound #91 Austin buses will travel over their regular routes to Lawrence/Milwaukee to a far side stop then will continue eastbound on Lawrence to Lipps, heading north on Lipps to enter the Jefferson Park bus terminal. 
 
Westbound #81W and southbound #91 buses are not affected and will travel along their regular routes.
 

Reconstruction of LaSalle Street Bridge Detours Northbound #24 Wentworth Buses

LaSalle Street between 28th and 26th streets will be closed to all traffic until early-January 2010, due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge.
 
Northbound #24 Wentworth buses will operate over the regular route along LaSalle to 31st Street then will travel via 31st Street, State, 26th Street to Wentworth and then resume the regular route. Southbound #24 buses will travel over the regular route.
 
Changes to #24 Wentworth Bus Stops
Due to the reconstruction of the LaSalle Street Bridge, the following changes will be made to bus stops served by #24 Wentworth buses:
 
  • LaSalle/31st Street: the northbound far side stop will be relocated to a near side stop.
  • Wentworth/26th Street: the northbound near side stop will be relocated to a westbound near side stop at 26th Street/Wentworth.
 

Lane Restrictions near State and Grand Detour #29 State and #65 Grand Buses

Due to lane restrictions associated with the Grand/State Red Line rehabilitation project at the northwest corner of State Street and Grand Avenue, #29 State and #36 Broadway buses will be detoured to adjacent streets. These changes in service are expected to remain in place until April 2010.
 
Southbound #29 State buses will operate over the regular route along Grand past State to Clark then will travel via Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #29 buses will be able to travel on the remaining open lane along State and will operate over its regular route. 
 
Southbound #36 Broadway buses will travel over the regular route along State to Ontario then will operate via Ontario, Clark, Illinois to State and then resume the regular route. Northbound #36 buses will operate over the regular route along Dearborn past Illinois to Ohio then will travel via Ohio to State and then resume the regular route.
 

14 CTA Bus Routes Affected Due to Jackson Viaduct Work

Due to the reconstruction of the Jackson Boulevard viaduct between Canal and Wacker, changes in service along 14 CTA bus routes are expected to remain in place until April 2010. The following CTA bus routes are being rerouted to adjacent streets:
