Additional Service Provided for Bud Billiken Parade Saturday
The Chicago Transit Authority is a great travel option for spectators attending the annual Bud Billiken Parade Saturday, August 12. Additional service will be provided on bus routes operating close to the parade venue. There also will be longer trains operating on the Green Line.
In addition to extra service, CTA will be rerouting some buses around the immediate parade area.
King Drive will be closed between 35th and Garfield beginning at 7 a.m. The parade will start at 10 a.m. and run until approximately 4 p.m. before disbanding in Washington Park. Detours may begin as early as 6 a.m. at the direction of the Chicago Police Department based on traffic volume in the area. King Drive is expected to remain closed until late Saturday afternoon.
Columbus Closes for LaSalle Bank Chicago Distance Classic Sunday
Columbus will be closed between Roosevelt and Balbo for the LaSalle Bank Chicago Distance Classic from 3 a.m. until noon Sunday, August 13. Race participants will assemble between Roosevelt and Balbo at 5:30 a.m. The race begins at 6:30 a.m.
Buses on the #3 King Drive, #4 Cottage Grove, #6 Jackson Park Express, #12 Roosevelt, #14 Jeffery Express, #20 Madison, #22 Clark, #29 State, #36 Broadway, #56 Milwaukee, #60 Blue Island/26th, #62 Archer, #65 Grand, #66 Chicago, #124 Navy Pier, #126 Jackson, #145 Wilson/Michigan Express, #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express and #151 Sheridan bus routes will be rerouted to adjacent streets. Customers should allow extra travel time.
Blue Line Customers Should Allow Extra Travel Time
Customers are asked to allow extra travel time due to increased maintenance on the Blue Line's O'Hare branch and in the Dearborn subway. These activities require additional slow zones along the rail line resulting in intermittent service delays.
Clark Junction Track and Signal Renewal:
CTA is currently working to upgrade crossover tracks and signals throughout the Clark Junction corridor, the busy location where Brown, Red and Purple Line trains converge just north of Belmont on the City's North Side. The upgrade to the 100-year-old junction will bring new signals and additional connections between tracks to allow trains to cross over to adjacent tracks.
Red and Brown Line Customers Should Allow Extra Travel Time This Weekend
Construction work planned for this weekend will require reroutes of Red Line and Brown Line trains beginning Saturday morning. This could cause delays in service so customers are advised to allow extra travel time. Several major construction projects are currently underway on the rail system and CTA is working to minimize the impact on customers while coordinating efforts to accommodate multiple construction crews.
Red Line Service
1 a.m. Saturday, August 12 to 4 a.m. Monday, August 14 ? Southbound Red Line trains will operate on southbound Brown Line tracks at Belmont station. At Belmont, Red Line customers will board southbound Red Line trains on the Brown Line (west) side of the platform.
At Addison station, southbound Red Line trains will stop at Addison as usual, then pull back northbound to cross over to southbound Purple Line tracks. Customers will board and exit Red Line trains at Addison as usual.
Brown Line Service
7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, August 12 ? Southbound Brown Line trains will be unable to stop at the Wellington and Diversey station platforms during these hours. Customers who wish to exit at these stations will need to travel to the Fullerton station and transfer to a northbound Brown Line train to travel back to these stations.
Southbound customers who wish to board at the Wellington and Diversey stations will need to travel to Belmont station and transfer to a southbound Brown Line train.
At Fullerton, Brown Line customers will board southbound Brown Line trains on the Red Line (east) side of the platform. (See separate release.)
Brown Line Kedzie and Rockwell Stations to Re-open August 16
The Kedzie and Rockwell stations on the Brown Line will re-open to rail service at 4:45 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16. Construction work at the stations will continue, however the majority of the work ? including accessibility to customers with disabilities ? has been completed allowing customers to return to their regular stations.
Red Line - Dan Ryan Branch Rehabilitation:
CTA is working to replace track, power and signal systems and upgrade stations along the branch. When the work is completed, customers will experience more reliable service and modern station amenities.
Late Night Single Track in Effect on Red Line Over Weekend
A single track will be in effect between 33rd and Garfield from 11 p.m. Friday, August 11 until 8 a.m. Saturday, August 12 and again in the same location from 11 p.m. Saturday,August 12 until noon Sunday, August 13. North and southbound customers boarding at the Sox-35th and 47th stations must board on the east side of the platform.
Customers should allow extra travel time.
Blue Line Signal Upgrade:
CTA is working to upgrade approximately 20 miles of the existing 40-year-old train control system and power supply equipment from the Forest Park terminal of the Blue Line Forest Park branch through the Dearborn subway to the Jefferson Park station of the Blue Line O'Hare branch. These systems ensure the safe operation and movement of trains and the appropriate speed and distance between trains as well as help CTA personnel manage rail service in the event of an emergency.
The upgraded signal system will result in improved reliability of service for Blue Line customers, and also includes upgrades to the power cables and communication system needed to connect the Red Line State Street subway and Blue Line Dearborn Street subway.
Late Night Single Track in Effect on Blue Line Forest Park Branch Thursday
A single track will be in effect between the Harlem and Austin stations from 11 p.m. Thursday, August 10 until 4 a.m. Friday, August 11. North and southbound customers boarding at the Oak Park station must board on the south side of the platform.

Single tracks will be in effect on the Blue Line Forest Park branch this weekend. A three-phase single track will be in effect between the Austin and Pulaski stations Friday, August 11 and Saturday, August 12.
From 11 p.m. Friday until 2 a.m. Saturday, the single track will be in effect between the Cicero and Pulaski stations. North and southbound customers boarding at Cicero and Pulaski stations must board on the north side of the platform.
From 2 a.m. until 6 a.m. Saturday, the single track will be in effect between the Austin and Pulaski stations. North and southbound customers boarding at the Austin, Cicero and Pulaski stations must board on the north side of the platform.
From 6 a.m. until 10 a.m. Saturday, the single track will be in effect between the Cicero and Pulaski stations. North and southbound customers boarding at the Cicero and Pulaski stations must board on the north side of the platform.
A three-phase single track will be in effect between the Kedzie and Cicero stations Saturday, August 12 and Sunday, August 13.
From 11 p.m. until 2 a.m. Sunday, the single track will be in effect between the Kedzie-Homan and Pulaski stations. North and southbound customers boarding at the Kedzie-Homan station must board on the south side of the platform.

A single track will be in effect between Ashland and Halted from 9 p.m. Thursday, August 10 until 4 a.m. Friday, August 11 and again in the same location, during the same hours Friday night. North and southbound customers boarding at Halsted station must board on the south side of the platform.
Single Track in Red Line Subway for Maintenance Sunday Night
A single track will be in effect between Division and Grand on the Red Line from 9 p.m. Sunday, August 13 until 4:30 a.m. Monday, August 14. North and southbound customers boarding at Clark/Division must board on the north side of the platform and customers boarding at Chicago and Grand on the Red Line must board on the northbound side of the platform.
Single Track in the Blue Line Subway for Maintenance Sunday Night
A single track will be in effect between Grand and Damen on the Blue Line from 10 p.m. Sunday, August 13 until 4 a.m. Monday, August 14.
North and southbound customers boarding at the Grand, Chicago and Division stations must board on the north side of the platform.
Montrose Closes for Independence of Ecuador Parade Saturday
Montrose will be closed between Western and Kimball from 6 a.m. until noon Saturday, August 12. #78 Montrose buses will operate in both directions via Montrose, Western, Lawrence, Kimball and Montrose, then resume the regular route.
Peterson and Pulaski Terminal Temporarily Closes for Reconstruction through August 19
Beginning Saturday, August 12 at 6 a.m., the Peterson and Pulaski bus terminal will temporarily close until 6:30 p.m. Saturday, August 19. Customers wishing to board or exit the terminal must board or exit #53 Pulaski buses at Pulaski and Stevens.
Devon Closes for Pakistan Independence Day Parade Sunday
Devon will be closed between Damen and Western from noon until 3:30 p.m. Sunday, August 13. #155 Devon buses will operate in both directions via Devon, California, Lunt, Ridge, back to Devon, then resume the regular route.
North Avenue Beach Closes for Air & Water Show Preparation Monday Morning
North Avenue beach will be closed from 6 a.m. Monday, August 14 until 3 p.m. Monday, August 21. #72 North buses will travel as far as North and Clark instead of continuing east to North Avenue Beach.
Columbus to Close for Nike Run Hit Remix 5K Next Week
Columbus will be closed between Roosevelt and Balbo beginning at 8 p.m. Thursday, August 17. The race begins at 9 p.m. Buses on the #6 Jackson Park Express, #12 Roosevelt, #14 Jeffery Express, #X28 Stony Island Express and the #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express will be rerouted to adjacent streets. Customers should allow extra travel time.
Evans Closes for Construction through September 11
Evans will be closed for construction between 130th and 131st through September 11. #34 South Michigan and #N34 South Michigan buses will operate in both directions via 130th, Evans, Eberhart, 131st, then resume the regular route.
