CTA to Provide Extra Service for Pitchfork Music Festival, Phish and Other Concerts

CTA is the best way to get to events throughout the city; unlimited ride passes are a great, worry-free way to get around the city

CTA will be providing additional service for events happening throughout the city, including the 2017 Pitchfork Festival at Union Park, the Phish Concert at Northerly Island, the Queen + Adam Lambert Concert and Comedy Get Down Tour at United Center and the Jimmy Buffet & Huey Lewis and James Taylor and Bonnie Raitt concerts at Wrigley Field. 

Getting there is easy! CTA encourages customers to allow extra travel time and purchase 1-day, 3-day or 7-day unlimited ride passes on their Ventra cards for worry-free travel to their favorite events. More information on how to purchase passes and add money to Ventra cards is provided below.

2017 Pitchfork Music Festival at Union Park July 14-16
Additional bus service:

•             Friday, July 14: Additional service on #9 Ashland for about one hour after the event ends.

•             Saturday, July 15: Additional #9 Ashland service between Clark/Belle Plaine and Madison/Ashland 2:30

               p.m. to 8 p.m.; and for about one hour after the event ends.

•             Sunday, July 16: Additional #9 Ashland service between Clark/Belle Plaine and Madison/Ashland 12:30

               p.m. to 8 p.m.; and for about one hour after the event ends.


Additional rail service (all days):            

•             Green and Blue Lines: Operate with longer trains

•             Pink Line: Operates with more frequent service


Phish at Northerly Island July 14-16
Additional bus service:

•             #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express: Additional service from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. and then again

               for about one hour after the event ends.

•             #130 Museum Campus: Additional service from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. and then again for about one

               hour after the event ends.


United Center Events

•             Thursday, July 13 – Queen + Adam Lambert       

•             Friday, July 14 - The Comedy Get Down Tour      


Bus service:

•             #19 United Center Express: Service begins about 1 1/2 hours before the 8 p.m. event start. After event

               ends, #19 buses will operate for one hour and await riders on the north side of the United Center

               eastbound on the Madison near Gate 3.

•             #50 Damen: #50 Damen connects with the Orange, Pink, Blue and Brown lines. Northbound #50 buses

               will await customers on Damen at Madison after the event.


Rail service:

•             Green/Pink Lines: Exit at the Ashland/Lake station and walk a few blocks southwest to the stadium or

               transfer to a southbound #9 Ashland bus.

•             Blue Line: Exit at the Illinois Medical District station and walk a few blocks north to United Center.


Wrigley Field Events

•             Saturday, July 15 - Jimmy Buffet & Huey Lewis

•             Monday, July 17 - James Taylor and Bonnie Raitt


Additional bus service:

•             #80 Irving Park and the #152 Addison beginning about two hours before the concerts’ 7 p.m. starts and                   for an hour after the concerts end.


Additional train service:

•             Yellow Line trains will operate until about 12 a.m., from Howard.

•             Additional Red Line service Monday during rush hour.


Buy your unlimited ride passes and fares in advance!
The CTA encourages riders to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and purchase fares in advance to decrease travel times and avoid long lines at rail station vending machines.

Customers can add  unlimited ride passes (1-day, 3-day, 7-day and 30-day) or add money to pay per-ride to their Ventra cards ahead of time via the free Ventra app, at rail station vending machines, online or at nearly 1,300 local retailers (for locations visit ventrachicago.com or the Ventra app).

Other ways to pay fares include purchasing from CTA vending machines 1-day unlimited ride tickets ($10) or single-ride tickets ($3) that include up to two transfers in two hours. Customers can also pay their fares with their personal contactless debit or credit cards.
