Miller Lite Sponsors New Year’s Eve Rides for Second Year

Chicago can ring in the New Year responsibly by catching a safe and convenient ride home with the CTA. The CTA reminds customers that beginning tonight at 10 p.m. through 4 a.m. Wednesday, CTA’s “Penny Rides” program means bus and train rides will again be free for customers. Miller Lite is sponsoring the popular CTA program for a second straight year.

“The CTA is a smart travel option for customers heading out to New Year’s Eve celebrations,” said CTA President Forrest Claypool. “The sponsorship by MillerCoors of this program ensures the continuation of Penny Rides, which promotes a free and responsible travel alternative.”

“We know that drunk driving is completely preventable,” said Nehl Horton, Chief Public Affairs and Communications Officer at MillerCoors. “That’s why we are proud to partner with CTA to provide safe transportation to Chicagoans as they celebrate New Year’s Eve.”

As part of the sponsorship, Miller Lite pays the one-cent “penny” fare for each rider as well as the operating costs to run CTA service during the hours in which the promotion is offered. Miller Lite has been promoting its “When Miller Time ends, Penny Ride begin” campaign, which has been featured on digital ads at downtown stations.

Each year, an average 150,000 CTA bus and train rides are taken on New Year’s Eve.
