Experimental Lake Shore Drive Corridor Route Changes Implemented Last Year

The Chicago Transit Authority will hold a public hearing to present its proposal to permanently adopt service changes for bus routes along South Lake Shore Drive. Implemented in August 2003, the changes were designed to provide faster travel times, new and extended express service, less crowded buses, improved east-west service connections, expanded express service hours and fewer transfers.

The affected routes serving the south portion of Lake Shore Drive are: #1 Indiana/Hyde Park, #2 Hyde Park Express, #X3 King Drive Express, #4 Cottage Grove, #X4 Cottage Grove Express, #6 Jackson Park Express, #14 Jeffery Express, #15 Jeffery Local, #26 South Shore Express, #27 South Deering, #28 Stony Island, #X28 Stony Island Express, #47 47th, #51 51st and #71 71st/South Shore.

Throughout the course of the experimental period, adjustments were made to more effectively meet the needs of customers along the South Lake Shore Drive corridor.

The public has until Thursday, July 29 to comment on the proposal by writing to Chicago Transit Authority, P.O. Box 3555, Chicago, IL 60654, Attention: Gregory Longhini, Assistant Secretary. E-mail comments may also be submitted by Thursday, July 29 by emailing ctahelp@transitchicago.com.
