CTA PROVIDES EXTRA SERVICE FOR AIR AND WATER SHOW AUGUST 21-22

August 13, 1999
08/13/99

Spectators heading to the annual Chicago Air and Water Show Saturday and Sunday, August 21-22, will find it much easier to reach the viewing area along the lakefront between North Avenue and Oak Street by using CTA service.

Extra buses will be in service both Saturday and Sunday on the #22 Clark, #36 Broadway, #72 North and #151 Sheridan routes, allowing spectators to get as close as possible to the viewing area without becoming part of the anticipated traffic congestion.

Also operating both days will be CTA's #121 Navy Pier Express buses to Navy Pier from Union Station and the Ogilvie Transportation Center (NorthWestern Station). Leaving every 10 minutes, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., #121 buses stop for Union Station northbound on Canal at Adams, and for Ogilvie Center on Canal at both Madison and Washington before running express to Navy Pier.

Buses on the #22 Clark route operate north through the Loop on Dearborn and in both directions on Clark north of Walton. #36 Broadway buses also travel north through the Loop on Dearborn before returning to State at Illinois and continuing north via State, Division and Clark to Broadway. To avoid gridlock at the lakefront, all #72 North buses will end their trips at Clark instead of continuing east to the North Avenue beach. #151 Sheridan buses begin trips from downtown either at Union Station or at Harrison Street. All #151 buses then operate north on State to Wacker before returning to Michigan and making stops on inner Lake Shore, Stockton and Sheridan Road.

Also serving the Air and Water Show will be CTA Red Line trains, which stop at the Clark/Division subway station, just a few blocks west of the underpass that pedestrians can use to cross under Lake Shore Drive to the lakefront at Division. Red Line riders can also transfer from the North/Clybourn subway station to extra #72 North buses that will be supplementing regular service on North Avenue from California to Clark.

Brown Line trains operating on Saturday serve the Sedgwick 'L' station at North Avenue, where riders can transfer to #72 North buses or walk east to the lakefront. Riders from the O'Hare branch of the Blue Line can transfer to #72 buses from the Damen 'L' station at North Avenue.

For details about all CTA bus and 'L' service, call 836-7000 (all local area codes).
