CTA Provides Additional Service for Fans Attending the World Series at U. S. Cellular Field

October 20, 2005
10/20/05

The Chicago Transit Authority will provide more frequent service to U.S. Cellular Field for the World Series between the Chicago White Sox and the Houston Astros. The first game is Saturday, October 22 and the second game is Sunday, October 23. Both games start at 6:30 p.m. If necessary, games on Saturday, October 29 and Sunday, October 30, will start at 6:30 p.m.

Red Line trains will run more frequently to Sox-35th during the two-hour period before games begin and for approximately one hour after games end, or as crowds warrant.

Red Line trains operate between Howard and 95th, making stops at the accessible Sox-35th station. From the State Street subway downtown, fans will arrive at Sox-35th in less than 15 minutes. And from 95th, the trip is less than 20 minutes. Free connections can be made from Purple Line trains at Howard, from all 'L' lines serving the Loop, or from Brown Line trains at Belmont or Fullerton.

There will be portable fareboxes at the 33rd Street and 35th Street entrances at the Sox-35th station. Customers are encouraged to purchase or add value to their farecards in advance.

In addition to the Red Line, CTA's Green Line also provides a convenient travel option for fans attending the games. After the games, additional Green Line trains will operate as crowds warrant.

The accessible Green Line station at 35th-Bronzeville-IIT is a few blocks east of U.S. Cellular Field. Fans can walk to the ballpark or transfer to #35 35th buses which stop at the park.

Green Line trains operate between 63rd/Ashland, Cottage Grove/East 63rd on the city's South Side and Lake/Harlem in Oak Park. From Clark/Lake downtown, the trip to 35th-Bronzeville-IIT is less than 15 minutes.

Additional #35 buses will begin operating two hours before the game begins and will continue operating after the game as crowds warrant. #35 buses also stop at the accessible station on the Orange Line at 35th/Archer. #29 State buses that operate on State Street between the Red Line terminal at 95th Street and Navy Pier provide another nearby travel option.

There will be additional Customer Assistants on hand at the Sox-35th Red Line station and at the 35th-Bronzeville-IIT station on the Green Line to help customers with fares and provide information. There also will be additional supervisory personnel along the #35 bus route.
