Transit Board Approves Appointments for General Counsel and Inspector General
The Chicago Transit Board today approved the appointments of two key executive positions with the Chicago Transit Authority. Darka Papushkewych has been named by the CTA as General Counsel of Law, Claims, Real Estate and Workers? Compensation; and Alison Ryan Perona has been named as Inspector General.
As General Counsel, Ms. Papushkewych will manage and direct the activities of the General Attorney Division related to contracts or agreements to be entered into by the CTA; provide counsel in consultation with the Chairman; and meet with officials from local and state governmental agencies involving matters and legislation affecting the CTA.
Prior to joining the CTA, Ms. Papushkewych was the Chief Labor Negotiator for the City of Chicago's Department of Law. She earned her law degree from Southern Illinois University School of Law. She holds a bachelor of science from University of Illinois, Chicago-Circle and Urbana.
Alison Ryan Perona has been named as the agency's new Inspector General. As Inspector General, Perona will be charged with promoting effectiveness and integrity in the administration of CTA programs and operations. The Inspector General also receives and registers complaints and information concerning waste, fraud and abuse within the CTA; investigates and audits the conduct and performance of CTA officers, employees, agents and contractors acting on the CTA's behalf; and reports the results of investigations and audits to the Transit Board, among other duties.
Prior to her appointment, Perona served as an Assistant State's Attorney in the Cook County State's Attorney's Office. During her tenure, she was involved in the prosecution of thousands of felony cases, including more than 50 jury trials, involving financial crimes, property crimes and violent crimes.
Perona earned her law degree from DePaul University College of Law. She holds a bachelor of science in English education from Illinois State University.
Starting dates for both positions is June 1, 2004.
