Temporary Night Lane Closures Continue
The Chicago Transit Authority will continue nighttime work on the north and southbound right shoulders of the Dan Ryan Expressway next week. The work requires nighttime-only closures of the north and southbound right driving lanes of the expressway between Cermak Road and 95th Street.
The northbound right driving lane of the Expressway will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night from Sunday, March 14 through Thursday, March 18. The southbound right driving lane will close from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night from Monday, March 15 through Saturday, March 20. Nighttime only closures will continue intermittently through the month of March. CTA will give weekly updates to the schedules.
CTA is smoothing and paving the right shoulder of the Dan Ryan Expressway in anticipation of an upcoming improvement project on the CTA's Red Line that will require the CTA to work along the inner shoulder. Because the CTA will be using the inside shoulders in the near future, it is preparing the outside shoulders to handle traffic. This will allow Dan Ryan motorists to have access to the same number of driving lanes normally assigned to traffic while CTA work is underway.
Lane shifts will occur only when construction is underway at specific CTA work zones and last approximately six to eight weeks per location. CTA will provide an update once exact dates are set.
The Dan Ryan branch of the Red Line runs down the middle of the Dan Ryan Expressway and includes nine stations from Cermak - Chinatown to 95th/Dan Ryan. When the rehabilitation project concludes in winter 2006, the CTA will have rehabilitated bus bridges at 69th and 95th Streets, improved signal, track, communications and power substation systems, and renovated seven Red Line stations from Sox-35th to 87th Street.
