Celebrate Earth Day by Hopping on CTA as You Travel to Festivities Around Chicagoland

April 18, 2024

Riding CTA’s trains and buses is better for the environment, not to mention a cost-saving way to get to sporting events, concerts and Earth Day events across Chicago this weekend; Weekend construction work to temporarily impact the Red and Green Lines

Choosing to ride public transit over driving can reduce your carbon footprint and conserve energy. According to the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), switching from driving to taking public transit on a 20-mile round trip commute can reduce a person’s annual CO2 emissions by 4,800 pounds per year, equal to a 10% reduction in all greenhouse gases produced by a typical two-adult, two-car household.

And let’s not forget the other benefits of taking CTA: It’s easier on your wallet and avoids the hassles of traffic and parking.

Customers can save money by purchasing an unlimited-rides pass, either the 1-Day ($5) – far more economical and convenient than the price of gas and parking - or the 3-Day ($15) pass – a real budget-saving move.

See below for further details on impacts to Red and Green Line service over the weekend.
