Where to Buy Fares

Where to buy farecards, in person

You can buy farecards (Transit Card and Chicago Card), in person, at hundreds of locations throughout the region. You can also buy fares in advance in our online store.

We are replacing farecards with Ventra, which accepts contactless cards (either Ventra Cards or compatible, personal contactless bankcards). You can load both Transit Value for pay-per-ride fares and passes, using cash or cards, onto a Ventra Transit Account. For info about Ventra, visit

You can purchase Transit Card/Chicago Card farecards at:

Magnetic-stripe pass retail locations

Note: Some retail locations may still have magnetic stripe passes available, but this stock should soon be winding down.

If you bought Transit Cards or passes at retail locations, like Currency Exchanges, CVS, etc., we recommend you get a Ventra Card and load value or passes onto it at Ventra Retail Locations. One of the benefits of Ventra is that you can now select how much to add at retailers and passes are electronic (unlike before where availability was subject to how much a store had in stock). You can buy Ventra Cards at Ventra Retailers, Ventra Vending Machines or at
