Green Line Service between Roosevelt and 35th-Bronzeville-IIT Temporarily Suspended Saturday Morning

September 25, 2014

Work associated with the construction of the new Cermak-McCormick Place station is scheduled this weekend and will require the temporary suspension of Green Line service between the Roosevelt and 35th-Bronzeville-IIT stations beginning at the start of service, 1:40 a.m., through 11:40 a.m. on Saturday, September 27.

During this time, free bus shuttles will be provided between the Roosevelt and 35th-Bronzeville-IIT stations as well as free transfers back into the affected rail stations.

Customers are encouraged to allow extra travel time each morning.

More comprehensive construction work is scheduled for next weekend, weather permitting, which will require the temporary, full-weekend suspension of rail service between the Roosevelt and 35th-Bronzeville-IIT stations beginning at 2 a.m. Saturday, October 4 through 4 a.m. Monday, October 6. During this time, bus shuttles will operate between the affected stations and free transfers back into the rail stations will be provided to allow customers to resume their trips. This weekend work will allow crews to hoist and install the large structural steel tubing needed to create the elevated tunnel that will cover the tracks and platform area of the new station.

The future Green Line station at Cermak fills a major gap in service between the existing Roosevelt and 35th-Bronzeville-IIT stations and will provide much needed access to rapid transit for neighborhood residents and businesses, including McCormick Place.

The completed station will feature modern amenities such as elevators, bike racks, state-of-the-art security, enclosed boarding platforms and three entrances. Work on the $50 million construction project began last fall and is managed by the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT).
