This map gives detailed information about Chicago Transit Authority bus and elevated/subway train service, and shows Pace suburban bus and Metra commuter train routes in the CTA service area. Regional Service Overview C T A runs buses (routes 1 to 206) and elevated/subway trains serving the city and 35 neighboring communities. Major routes run daily through late evening, generally every 10–20 minutes but service frequency can vary based on route and time of day—see individual timetables for details or plan a trip online or by phone in advance. PACE runs buses throughout the suburbs (routes 2 0 8 and above and Pulse rapid routes) Many connect with C T A. Major routes generally run daily thru mid-evening, every 30–60 minutes. You can use a Ventra Card or contactless bankcard to pay fares as you ride or use valid passes on any C T A bus or train, and on Pace buses. METRA runs 11 suburban commuter train lines from several downtown Chicago terminals. Most routes run daily; check schedules or use trip planners to plan your trip. Fares are separate. Purchase tickets in the Ventra app. A Regional Connect Pass is available to Metra monthly ticketholders for use on C T A or Pace. The SOUTH SHORE LINE runs commuter trains, daily, between downtown Chicago (Millennium and Van Buren stations) and South Bend Airport in Indiana. Fares are separate. All scheduled routes have timetables. When boarding, always check the destination sign; not all buses travel to the end of the line and some routes have branches. Buses stop about every two blocks at posted signs, which give basic service information. The Owl symbol indicates all night service (Owl service typically runs every 30 minutes). All C T A buses are accessible and have bike racks. Trains Each line has a color name. All services run daily (except Purple Line Express direct to Downtown Chicago), generally early morning through late evening. Free connections are available between all rail lines marked with a connection symbol. Accessible stations are marked with a wheelchair symbol. All railcars are accessible. At all stations, staff are on duty to help you. Customer Assistance/Help Point call buttons are located near turnstiles and on platforms. Maps are posted in each railcar and station to help you plan your trip. Timetables are also posted in stations. Can be shared by up to 7 people. New plastic Ventra Cards cost $5. Register within 90 days of purchase to have cost credited back as value. Ventra Tickets Buy new disposable tickets from vending machines. A good option for visitors and infrequent riders who don’t have a Ventra Card or contactless payment. SINGLE-RIDE Ventra Ticket cost $3 at most locations includes up to 3 rides within 2 hours of first use. 1-Day tickets (and 3-Day, at select locations) are also available and cost the same as passes. Bicycles may be prohibited on trains during periods of excessive crowding or on dates with anticipated crowding. Bicycles can travel by bus on bicycle racks. Accessibility Accessible Bus Service All C T A vehicles (buses and railcars) are accessible to people with disabilities. C T A buses “kneel” (lower) on and have ramps at the front doors; anyone can ask for the ramp or bus to kneel. Other features include priority seats and wheelchair securement areas. Automated voice announcements help make stop, route and other info accessible to people who are blind or visually impaired while digital signs help people who deaf or hard-of-hearing. Accessible Rail Service C T A trains provide space for wheelchairs and have at least one designated wheelchair securement area in each car. All C T A railcars have priority seats and recorded voice announcements. “Gap fillers” are available at all stations to bridge the space between platform and train. If you need a gap filler, ask station staff or train Operator for help. Accessible stations have elevators and/or ramps to create a stepfree path between platforms, the station and the street.
