Background of Community Panel:

CTA created a community advisory panel for the Cermak (Douglas) Branch Rehabilitation Project in response to the community's request to be an integral part of this project. A commitment to create the panel was made by CTA President Frank Kruesi and former CTA Chairman Valerie B. Jarrett.

Community Panel Goals:

  • Facilitate flow of information between the CTA and the community through monthly panel meetings.
  • Work to ensure the successful implementation of the community hiring program.
  • Provide support service linkages for community hires in construction jobs (i.e. daycare, transportation).
  • Maximize apprenticeship opportunities by working with trade unions to incorporate their training programs.
  • Assist in conducting DBE outreach.
  • Support program's DBE goal.
  • Assist in the development and outreach of an Impact Area Business Directory.

Cermak (Douglas) Branch Rehabilitation Project Community Advisory Panel - Mission Statement:

A group of community based organizations and elected officials from the Cermak (Douglas) Line Rehabilitation Project Impact Area that provide ongoing communication with the community and gather feedback on the program's efforts to minimize construction impact on the neighborhoods surrounding the Blue Line Cermak (Douglas) Branch.

Panel members assist in promoting and supporting economic development through increased representation of women and minorities in employment opportunities as well as maximizing contracting possibilities for minority- and women-owned and disadvantaged businesses. Working together, these local organizations and elected officials help residents living in communities closest, and most impacted, benefit from jobs and spending at the project.
