CTA Provides Service to McCormick Place for 2010 Chicago Auto Show

Restructured CTA Bus and Train Schedules Begin Sunday
Chicago Transit Authority President Richard L. Rodriguez was at CTA’s 77th Street Garage this morning as part of the agency’s continuing effort to prepare riders for the impact of service reductions set to begin Sunday. As part of the fleet preparation for the cutbacks, the agency is closing a 103-year-old bus garage, redistributing buses among its seven remaining garages and readying buses that are being taken out of service. Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of February 5-7
IMPORTANT NOTE: CTA service reductions go into effect this Sunday – February 7. Service will operate less frequently on 119 bus routes and seven rail lines, and hours of service will be reduced on 41 bus routes. Nine express bus routes will be eliminated. Reduced CTA Service Set to Start Sunday, February 7
Chicago Transit Board Chairman Terry Peterson and Chicago Transit Authority President Richard L. Rodriguez today reminded customers that CTA bus and rail service reductions and layoffs will go into effect this coming Sunday, February 7. Riders are expected to feel the full impact of service reductions on Monday, February 8, the first weekday under reduced operation. Service will run less frequently on 119 bus routes and seven of CTA’s eight rail lines, and hours of service will be reduced on 41 bus routes. These routes either will start service later in the morning, end service earlier at night or both. In addition, nine express bus routes that have corresponding local service will be eliminated. Orange Line Trains to Reroute on Loop Elevated Tracks on Sunday, January 31
Orange Line trains in the Loop will be temporarily rerouted to operate on the Brown Line tracks from approximately 5:50 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 31 due to track work. Orange Line trains will be rerouted from the inner track to the outer Loop track, and travel counterclockwise. (More...)

Mayor Daley, CTA Officials Announce Completion of Security Camera Installation at 24 Green Line Stations
Mayor Richard M. Daley and Chicago Transit Authority President Richard L. Rodriguez today announced a significant development in the agency's ongoing effort to enhance safety and security on its rail and bus system. With the installation of cameras at 24 Green Line stations, the CTA’s rail system now has 1,657 cameras at 73 rail stations. (More...)

Information Outlining Service Changes for CTA Bus and Rail Service Available to Customers

CTA Announces Ridership in 2009
The CTA today announced that 2009 combined bus and rail ridership totaled 521.2 million rides, a decrease of 1 percent (5.1 million rides) over 2008 ridership. Even so, totals were stronger than the agency expected considering the dramatic impact the recession has had throughout the year. (More...)

CTA to Host Workshops to Assist Employees Preparing for Layoffs
The Chicago Transit Authority is hosting a series of workshops designed to assist the more than 1,000 employees scheduled for layoffs next month. In order to balance its 2010 budget, CTA will be reducing service effective February 7, consequently, there will be a corresponding reduction in the CTA workforce. (More...)

Mayor Daley, CTA Officials Celebrate the Completion of the Brown Line Capacity Expansion Project
Mayor Richard M. Daley, Chicago Transit Board Chairman Terry Peterson and Chicago Transit Authority President Richard L. Rodriguez joined federal, state and city officials today at the Fullerton rail station for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of 18 station renovations as part of the CTA’s $530 million Brown Line Capacity Expansion Project. Post-Game Only Service Provided on #19 United Center Express for Bulls and Blackhawks Games This Weekend
The Chicago Transit Authority will provide post-game service only on the #19 United Center Express route for the Bulls and Blackhawks games this weekend. Service to the United Center prior to the start of the games will not be provided along the #19 route. To get to the games, customers are encouraged to take the #20 Madison route, which provides direct service to the United Center from downtown. (More...)
