Southbound Red Line Trains Temporarily Unable to Stop at Granville, Thorndale and Bryn Mawr This Weekend

CTA Reroutes and Service for Annual Magnificent Mile Lights Festival
CTA bus routes will be detoured off North Michigan Avenue on Saturday, November 21 for the annual Magnificent Mile Lights Festival. The festival motorcade is scheduled to step off at 5:30 p.m. from Rush and Oak and will travel south on Michigan Avenue to Wacker Drive. (More...)

CTA to Hold Open Houses for Red and Purple Line Vision Study
The Chicago Transit Authority is undertaking a study of the Red Line North and Purple Line – from the Addison Red Line station to Linden on the Purple Line – that will provide guidance for doing major rehabilitation work in the future, pending funding availability. As part of this Vision Study, the public is invited to provide input and feedback regarding these stations at a series of Open Houses. (More...)

Budget Approved Without Fare Increase
The Chicago Transit Board today approved a $1.27 billion budget for 2010. The budget proposes management efficiencies, elimination of more than 1,100 jobs and service reductions. However, due to an agreement brokered by Governor Quinn’s office, a proposed fare increase was removed from the budget. To replace the $83 million in revenue that was anticipated from the fare increase, the Regional Transportation Authority will issue bonds in 2010 and 2011 that will enable the CTA to use eligible capital funds to support operations and replace those funds with the new RTA revenue. As a result, the CTA has agreed to maintain current fares for the next two years. (More...)

Governor Quinn Announces Comprehensive Agreement for CTA and Paratransit Fare Freeze
Governor Pat Quinn today announced an agreement with the Chicago region's major transit agencies that will prevent fare increases for the Chicago Transit Authority and Pace paratransit services in 2010 and 2011. The agreement was made between the State of Illinois, the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), Metra and Pace. (More...)

Governor Quinn Makes CTA Board Appointments
Governor Pat Quinn today appointed a public interest attorney and an environmental policy professional to the Board of the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). Joining the transit board is John Bouman, president of the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law, and Katie McClain, Chicago City Director of the Clinton Climate Initiative for the William J. Loop Signal Project to Reroute Elevated Trains November 14 and 15
As part of CTA’s work to replace the signal and train control systems in the Loop, the weekend beginning November 14 crews will be installing a new signal control facility at Lake and Wells that will require elevated trains to reroute on Saturday and Sunday. (More...)

Rail service between the Blue Line’s Clark/Lake and UIC-Halsted stations temporarily will be suspended from 10 p.m. Friday, November 6 until 4 a.m. Monday, November 9, as work to replace track in the south end of the Dearborn subway continues this weekend. (More...)

Events Affecting CTA Service Beginning the Weekend of October 30 – November 1
NOTE: Daylight-saving time ends on Sunday, November 1, and clocks are to be set back one hour. Customers who use unlimited ride passes are reminded that passes are active for 24-hour periods. For example, someone who activates a 1-day pass at 8 a.m. Saturday will normally be able to use the pass until 8 a.m. Sunday. But this weekend, due to the extra hour added on Saturday night the pass would expire at 7 a.m. Sunday. (More...)

CTA Awards Vending Machine Contract to Coca Cola
The Chicago Transit Board today approved a three-year contract with Coca Cola Enterprises to furnish, install, replenish, operate and maintain soft drink vending machines on CTA property. The contract also contains two one-year options for renewal. (More...)
