12/22/2009 CTA Adopts New DBE Operating Program The Chicago Transit Board recently approved a new Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program which sets a 25 percent annual DBE agency goal in 2010 for contracts funded out of CTA’s operating budget. An amendment to the Metropolitan Transit Authority Act in 2008 requires the CTA to establish a DBE program for non-federally funded contracts effective January 18, 2010. (More...)
12/22/2009 CTA Budget Approved Without Fare Increase On November 12, the Chicago Transit Board approved a $1.27 billion budget for 2010, which averted a fare increase due to an agreement brokered by Governor Quinn’s office. The budget proposes management efficiencies, elimination of more than 1,100 jobs and service reductions. However, an agreement between the State of Illinois, the Regional Transportation Authority and the CTA will provide enough funding for the next two years to allow the CTA to maintain current fares. 12/22/2009 CTA Hosts Monthly Certification Workshops for Potential Vendors The Chicago Transit Authority is hosting a series of workshops to help vendors better understand CTA's procurement process and assist them in registering to do business in the CTA. 02/06/2010 Restructured CTA Bus and Train Schedules Begin Sunday Chicago Transit Authority President Richard L. Rodriguez was at CTA’s 77th Street Garage this morning as part of the agency’s continuing effort to prepare riders for the impact of service reductions set to begin Sunday. As part of the fleet preparation for the cutbacks, the agency is closing a 103-year-old bus garage, redistributing buses among its seven remaining garages and readying buses that are being taken out of service. 02/04/2010 Reduced CTA Service Set to Start Sunday, February 7 Chicago Transit Board Chairman Terry Peterson and Chicago Transit Authority President Richard L. Rodriguez today reminded customers that CTA bus and rail service reductions and layoffs will go into effect this coming Sunday, February 7. Riders are expected to feel the full impact of service reductions on Monday, February 8, the first weekday under reduced operation. Service will run less frequently on 119 bus routes and seven of CTA’s eight rail lines, and hours of service will be reduced on 41 bus routes. These routes either will start service later in the morning, end service earlier at night or both. In addition, nine express bus routes that have corresponding local service will be eliminated. 01/28/2010 Orange Line Trains to Reroute on Loop Elevated Tracks on Sunday, January 31 Orange Line trains in the Loop will be temporarily rerouted to operate on the Brown Line tracks from approximately 5:50 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 31 due to track work. 01/23/2010 Mayor Daley, CTA Officials Announce Completion of Security Camera Installation at 24 Green Line Stations Mayor Richard M. Daley and Chicago Transit Authority President Richard L. Rodriguez today announced a significant development in the agency's ongoing effort to enhance safety and security on its rail and bus system. 01/20/2010 CTA Announces Ridership in 2009 The CTA today announced that 2009 combined bus and rail ridership totaled 521.2 million rides, a decrease of 1 percent (5.1 million rides) over 2008 ridership. 01/13/2010 CTA to Host Workshops to Assist Employees Preparing for Layoffs The Chicago Transit Authority is hosting a series of workshops designed to assist the more than 1,000 employees scheduled for layoffs next month. In order to balance its 2010 budget, CTA will be reducing service effective February 7, consequently, there will be a corresponding reduction in the CTA workforce. (More...)
