The Chicago Transit Authority invites Chicagoland area elementary
school children in grades K - 8 to nominate the color to be used in naming
the next CTA rail line, part of a $5.2 million investment in improved West
Side and west suburban area service.
The new line will route trains from Cicero on the 54th/Cermak branch of the Blue
Line via refurbished elevated tracks to the Lake Street elevated tracks, where
they will then travel downtown and clockwise around the Loop. This new line will
provide faster, more frequent service to the Loop and O'Hare International Airport.
Please see the attached map and click here for more
details.
Students should consider the colors of CTA's current rail lines when making
a color choice. Students should also explain their color choices in 200 words or
less and reflect on the importance of public transit to Chicagoland communities.
For mail-in submissions, students may also include a drawing of the new line on
8 ½ X 11" paper.
