Using personal, contactless bankcards

Ventra can accept any bank-issued card in your wallet with the contactless payment wave symbol to pay fare.

Using Ventra Transit Value or Passes
Create a Ventra Transit Account that’s associated with your card by adding Transit Value or passes to your card at vending machines. Your Ventra Transit Account is separate from preexisting credit/debit account and stores fare just for transit.

Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) Option
Without a Ventra Transit Account (or not enough fare in it to cover your ride), Ventra charges you a Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) Fare as a credit transaction directly from its regular payment account—just like how you can you touch your contactless bankcard at many vending machines.

The PAYG fare is $2.25 per ride for Full Fare ($1.10 Reduced Fare—ask the bus operator or train station attendant for help with reduced fare), charged to your card. Transfers are unavailable when paying a PAYG fare: For the best fare value, load Transit Value or passes to a Ventra Transit Account on your card before using your personal contactless bankcard to pay.

See the Ventra User Agreement for complete details about the order in which fares are applied and use of personal contactless bankcards.
