Internships FAQ

How long is a CTA internship?
Internships can last from 8-12 weeks, depending on the term.

Are there set start and end dates for internships?
Yes, each term has set start and end dates. However, some interns have worked multiple terms.

When is the best time to apply?
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
We accept applications for the Fall term beginning in May, Winter/Spring term beginning in November, and the Summer term beginning in March.

Are internships paid?
Interns are paid from $11 to $16 per hour, depending on their education level.

How many hours do interns work?
Interns can work up to 20 hours per week during the school year and up to 40 hours per week during summer and school breaks.

What is your selection process for interns and how competitive is it?
Interns are selected based on their skills and the minimum requirements outlined in the nature of the project, primary responsibilities, and level of education. The selection process is very competitive.

Do you provide housing or transportation?
Employees receive free transportation on the CTA. Although the CTA doesn’t provide housing, see information below on housing options that may be available to you.

Can international students apply?
Yes, but all international students must have student visas, a Social Security Number, and a Social Security Card.

Can I reapply if I am not accepted into the internship program?
Yes.

How do I apply?
Please apply using our Careers site and look for internship opportunities.

I am studying abroad. Can I still be interviewed if I’m selected for consideration?
Yes. Interviews can be conducted via Skype.

Can I apply to multiple internships?
Yes.

I have interned before. Can I apply for another opportunity?
Yes. We love to welcome back exceptional interns.
