Keep our bus fleet moving at CTA. Bus drivers deliver friendly, professional and reliable transit service to our customers each and every day. We recruit individuals who demonstrate strong people skills, a personal commitment to safety, patience, and are excellent problem-solvers.

Drivers operate buses over established routes in a safe, efficient and courteous manner to help passengers travel to their destinations. A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required but you may be able to acquire one through the CTA Driver Training Program. A successful candidate will meet the following basic requirements:

  • Be at least 21 years of age;
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent;
  • Hold a valid State of Illinois Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or a valid State of Illinois CDL permit with the following three endorsements: knowledge, passenger and air brakes;
  • A safe driving record;
  • Be customer service-oriented.
     

Successful candidates will need a Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) or a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) from the IL Secretary of State's Office. Learn how to obtain your CLP.
