Reinforcing bars for mat slab being installed in preparation for concrete installation. * Armitage – Installation of track level platforms and cable supports continues. Further work pending permit by CDOT Office of Underground Coordination (OUC). Anticipating issuance of permit in September. * Hill – Foundation removal and installation of Earth Retention System (ERS) was completed. Worksite has been excavated and sump pit has been installed. Stone installed in preparation for installation of Foundation Concrete. Delay Explanation: * CDOT OUC reviewing earth retention permit requirements for Armitage. Nielsen & Associates, LLG Slide #10 Project Title: Red Line South Reconstruction Project Managing Department: Power & Way Construction * Impact on Customers: The Dan Ryan Red Line branch from Cermak to 95th will shut down for 154 days from May 19, 2013 to October 20, 2013. There may be single track outages prior to the line cut to perform preparatory work. * Benefit to System: Reduced maintenance costs; improved reliability; new infrastructure. * Benefit to Community: Improved customer travel times by eliminated slow zones; new elevators at Garfield, 63rd and 87th. * Impact on Accessibility: Garfield, 63rd and 87th stations will be accessible. * Estimated # of Jobs Created: 1150 * Customer Communication Need: Preliminary outreach started last fall. A comprehensive outreach plan will be implemented to ensure all customers clearly understand travel alternatives and construction impacts. Detailed Overview of Scope: * The limits of the projects are the south subway near 16th/Clark on the north to approximately 95th Street on the south and including portions of the 18th connector. * Replacement of deteriorated track components, including new running rail, ties, fasteners, ballasts, and drainage improvements. Structural work included expansion joint replacement, new waterproofing, and concrete repairs. Systems work includes contact rail replacement, new supplemental negative return, temporary relocation and/or replacement of existing signal and communications infrastructure. * Rehabilitation of various architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical elements at eight (8) stations along the Dan Ryan Red Line branch: Cermak/Chinatown, Sox/35th, 47th, Garfield, 63rd, 69th, 79th, and 87th. This work included interior and exterior painting, platform canopy repairs, lighting and window repairs, and station cleaning. * Construction of new elevators at Garfield, 63rd and 87th stations. * New railings at 69th Street bus bridge. Slide #11 Project Title: Red Line South Reconstruction Project Managing Department: Power & Way Construction Construction Progress * Red South is on schedule and budget with 46 days left as of 9/3. The primary duct bank was completed 8/22. Excavation for the drainage system is complete and back fill will complete this week. The last section of ballast installation is underway between 47th and 35th. As noted my last report track has been installed from 95th to 63rd and is now in progress between 63rd and 47th. Signal and traction power testing is in progress from 95th through 69th. The northern section of the project from 16th to 35th station shows a similar level of completion with track installed throughout. The station contractor is also on schedule and budget. Elevator tower work continues with the electrical feed work complete at 63rd, Garfield and  87th. Exterior elevator panels are complete at 63rd, will be complete this week at 87th and in progress at Garfield. Interior elevator cab construction is underway at Garfield, 63rd and 87th. Painting continues throughout. Close out in progress. * South Shops – 4 lifts installed and operational. Close out in progress. * 77th Garage – 7 lifts installed. Work at 4 of the 11 pits is in progress. * Phase 2: * Kedzie Garage – 2 lifts operational, work at 2 more of the 12 pits is in progress. Work on the wash pit and inspection pit and inspection are in progress. * Phase 3: * North Park Garage – work on 5 of the 9 pits is in progress. * Phase 4: * 103rd and Chicago Garages – NOPA routing for signature 8/14/13. Delay Explanation: * Phase 1: Elevation differential in underground drainage has resulted in the requirement to place new drainage lines as opposed to tying into existing drainage lines. * Phase 2: No delay. * Phase 3: No delay.
